For anyone that wants to know. there are 2 vcm motors on the intake. One in the front right side and one in the back right side. These motors control "flaps" inside the intake the regualte according to airflow and throttle position. It helps create torque especially at low rpms. Sometimes, like on my issue, the motor works at low voltage (AA battery) but 12volts the part that spins on the side of the vcm, will twitch and move a little. but if i keep tryna give it power, it wont budge unless i reverse the positve and negative wires to get the "key" to spin in the other direction. I opened up the vcm to see if there was a lose wire or burnt motherboard, turns out, there was dry acid or whatever from the motor. So moisture or whatever go in and fried the motor. which is why i could power on low volts and not high volts. Anyways, the symtpoms youll have is Hard starts Rough idle engine shakes Misfires (especially if car is in park/nuetral and you quickly try revving the engine, it will misfire and sometimes stall) poor acceleration No starts hesitation It may throw a lean code P0171 or another code P016c. P016c is not directly related to a vcm motor. More so, if a specific engine component is not performing correctly according to manafacturer limits. A Bad vcm throws off incorrect Air/fuel data to ecu (computer) So the computer tries to compensate by adding more fuel. But since the air inside of the intake is not restricted or "flowing" properly, it creates a lean condition. in other words, too much air. For my car, i replaced up to 2k in car parts. I had a mechanic diagnose, he couldlnt figure it out. I only figured this issue out after testing the power to both vcms and the one worked just fine powering off the battery leads. The other barely would move.

I am a certified Hyundai technician and yeah I have figured this out a while ago. The tech info for daig sucks. When it comes to a lot of items. Most major diag on some parts is just replace with known good part and retest

All these are signs of running these engines with low oil!! If check engine light flashes and you have replaced the spark plugs the ignition coils and knock sensor then the engine is garbage!!!!
