Thank you. That Chippenham Ionity station will be a more regular stop for my new BMW i4 as I travel up/down the M4.

Not sure how far you have to travel on the M4 but Ionity are also putting in chargers at Magor Services M4 J23a just across the Welsh border. Still being built though so not ready. They now have 6 high speed (up to 350kW) chargers at M4 Chippenham as it was and is getting busier & busier as the sales of EVs are increasing rapidly. MM

Nice one, Mark! I found this very interesting because I’m new to the EV world, and often travel from Wales to Weybridge. I’ve not used a Public Charger yet, but seen this site on ZAP Map! I have more confidence in using a PC now after the comprehensive instructions - thank you 👍🏼

Thanks. There is also now a brand new Ionity HPC site (6 chargers active but space for another 6 in future) in Newport J23A Magor. Not in Magor services but near the opposite (westbound) exit. Also massive new Tesla SuC x12 just opened at Celtic Manor + 18 free to use Type 2 chargers. Open to all EVs. MM

3.1 but what was the average speed?
@erik.dahlberg
@erik.dahlberg 2 жыл бұрын
This is indeed a game-changer. It will be really interesting to see how the battery degrades over time with these types of speed. If Hyundai/Kia can show similar figures as the Tesla M3/Y, this is a revolution. On another note, I wonder if these type of "isolated" quick charging spots (relative to a gas station) are ideal to women travelling alone, i.e. I've come to understand that there is a big difference which type of environments where men and women feel safe. How would your wife feel stopping at this Ionity location late at night? Just curious..

A very good point and something I am aware of (as I am married) and still a big reason why EVs are not as attractive as their ICE counterparts..yet. However will not be long until multi point well lit fuel stations will become multi point well lit EV Charge stations. And if these charging speeds continue and the fact that you can sit inside your car with the doors locked, it will only be a few minutes of being isolated. And not that much different from getting out of your car and standing beside it waiting to fill your tank with petrol. MM.

A good point as a lot of charge Points are placed away from the Entrance of Shops. This was often done to stop Petrol Cars Icing the spots in a busy Car Park, but really Charge points should be placed close to the entrance of Facilities and have proper enforcement of Towing away of cars blocking chargers.

I know this might be incredibly pedantic and I apologise for that, but your caption as to when Winston Churchill was born in Blenheim Palace was somewhat inaccurate. He was born on 30th November 1874 and not 26th October 1951 as per your caption... otherwise, a great video, thanks!

No. You are absolutely not being pedantic! A mistake on my part. That was the last part of text that I added to make it a bit more informative. That was the last year he was in opposition I think. Thanks for pointing that out. Thought I had checked and double checked before uploading! Will have to wait for many others to point it out now also. 🥲😂. MM

Could you please test the charging speed when ambient temperatures drop and battery pack is below 5°C or 10°C? It probably will be only 70kW, as reported by other owners. Battery temperature can be read with free phone apps: car scanner elm obd2 or evnotify.

What a complete contrast to Guy Martin, who stupidly paid 69p per kw, because he was ignorant of the "Charge My Hyundai" app. And then made out it was all the car's fault, because he hadn't done his research and planned his trip! 25p per kw is better than 69p per kw any day. It's worth noting that Gridserve's planned 100 large charge hubs, projected for most major UK road routes, will have several 350kw chargers, as well as around 30 other lower current chargers on each site.....
@markymarkreviews

I know. Exciting (and hopeful) times. Let’s hope they come to fruition. These multipoint charging hubs which in effect will replace multipoint petrol stations will make long distance travel a breeze even in smaller battery EVs. MM

Could I ask you why you had your lights on when charging?
@markymarkreviews
@markymarkreviews 2 жыл бұрын
When you get out of the car or unlock the car to get out, the daytime running/main lights come on and stay on for a little while unless you lock the car. They go off after 2-3 minutes. It gives the impression that they were on all the time but it was only when I got out to take the video portions at the start and near the end of the charge. MM

To sign up for hyundai card to get discount rates on Ionity you need to pay extra charge per month. Not really worth it if you use it once or twice a year
@MacMorrison
@MacMorrison 2 жыл бұрын
yep i worked out that if you are paying the sub you need to use more than 300KW to pay for the membership - which wouldn't be too hard

In the UK, as mentioned in the video and after purchasing an Ioniq 5 at present, there is no subscription fee to use Ionity or get the Hyundai RFID card. The first year is free. P45 owners get a 2 year free subscription so no extra charges. Just a flat rate of 25p/kWh to use the fastest chargers around at present. But after the 1 (or 2 years are up) , yes, it looks like there will be a monthly fee. But I will worry about that after the 2 years are up. Will hopefully be a lot more choice and more competition in the charging market by then. As an EV owner 95+% of my charging is done at home. Not every EV owner will be lucky enough to do that (if living in an apartment block etc). Only when travelling long distance do these public chargers need to be used.

@@markymarkreviews Yes that is correct. I was mostly highlighting for non ioniq 5 drivers. If you buy a new kona electric you don't get the deal. I tend to clear away from Ionity I prefer other providers some are even promoting loyalty schemes 👍

If you buy it new it should be a minimum of 5 years. North America gets free charging for a year. It's penny pinching like this that drive people to Tesla.

Great informative video. I’ve just received free Premium ionity from Hyundai and will be trying one of these at Leeds M1 next week. Do you know if ionity premium gives discounted rates at any other brand of charger, for example podpoint or genie.

Not that I know of. You can use the card for use on many other chargers I think but won’t be discounted. I only use mine on Ionity and still very pleased I pay 25p/kWh which is so so cheap in these times of high energy tariffs. MM
