Since new (4 months) my Kona has been unhappy with AC charging on our local ABB (Terra 54) public charger, which has CCS and Chademo as well. After 30-60 minutes at the full 7.4 kW, power will reduce and dither around between 0.5 and 6.0, even when the state of charge is still under 90%. It's fine on a "dumb" EVSE like those found at a shop or mall, will sit rock-solid at 7.1 kW. I have no idea what the problem is but wondered if any Euro owners have experience with this particular type of ABB charger. Note, this is the AC side I'm talking about - the CCS works fine if I need, or want DC charging.

The car can only charge at 7KW on AC regardless of how fast the charging station is because the the car uses it’s onboard charger for AC which is only around 7KW. From the little I’ve read only the Zoe and Tesla can make use of higher AC speeds.

It's always "safe" but charging stops at the limit you set. It will restart if it drops lower as well, which it may do after a day or so.

Your review isn't newbie friendly. "Goes down to..." something - why? I can't even see what you were referring to. Video assumes people would know something about electric vehicles... I just saw the Kona displayed while waiting for change oil and I got curious how it was charged. Can I do it at home? How long to fully charge at home? Can I use the existing plugs? Can I use block heater plugs at work?

@BatteryLife
@BatteryLife 5 жыл бұрын
To your questions: Yes, you can charge at home with the "Home" charger that I mention in the video. At home you can charge with 2,4 KW and it has a 64 KWh battery, so max 27 hours. Yes, you can use your plugs if they can withstand the power. Last thing, I don't know what that is a block heater plug.

Noticed you had an extentioncord there, please, please DO NOT use that, and please inform others not to as well. Recently there was a fire in a garage where extention was in use, and the cause of the fire. Luckily it was early discovered, otherwise the house could have burnt down.. Don't know the regulation in your country, but here in Norway, charging on a schuko, you're allowed to max charge at 10A on a dedicated circuit that has cables for 16A I believe.
@BatteryLife
@BatteryLife 5 жыл бұрын
Rayner Bønå The charger has a max of 12A, like most home chargers for EVs. Every cable, socket, house installation has to withstand 12A on permanent power output. Only if there is something damaged, there is a problem. Thanks for the message.
@therandomtester9561
@therandomtester9561 5 жыл бұрын
@@BatteryLife I know rules are different in Norway, but risk is the same regardless of country, and extention cord is high risk low reward.. Is a circuit normally 13A fuse there? Here in Norway a normal householdplug with 10A fuse uses 1.5mm2 cable while a 16A uses 2.5mm2. And a 10A circuit for EV-chargeing on schuko has to be 2.5mm2. How is it there?

Hi, check the extension cable rating itself. Many are only rated at 10amps fully uncoiled at 230volts. If you have a bigger 15amp rated extension cable, with good quality plugs, no issues but it looks too thin for that.
