Tucson here gives significantly better fuel economy whilst also being better at accelerating and responsiveness. You say it’s not much different but your own figures show that the Tucson’s MPG is over 10% better than the Volvo’s. How is that not much? Saving a quid for ever tenner spend on fuel? Do you even own a calculator? Also the CO2 for the Tucson starts at 130g/km and the Volvo’s 177g/km? That’s a big difference in pollutants and VED isn’t it? This didn’t even seem to be considered as a factor. Finally, the brakes being grabbier in the Tucson will be due to them being regenerative/recuperative and is a characteristic associated with myriad braking systems of that ilk.

“ That’s a big difference in pollutants” I’m just curious what will be your CO2 exhaled running for 1 km if you really want to compare emissions…. The legislation it’s misleading as for diesel they were saying that the NOX it’s toxic but all cars sold are taxed for the CO2 emissions. Why is that?

I have the B4. Volvo have now added large +/- buttons on the aircon screen via an update. I usually use the voice control. MPG is woeful. I’m a steady driver but struggle to get over 37mpg on journeys, especially with E10 petrol. Around town, it can be late teens or early 20’s. I’m sorry I went from diesel, now. I’m still pleased with my purchase, though.

I had a very early XC40 in 2018 when the new shape came out in the UK and I had a 2L diesel. I was offered a good deal but with a 2.0L petrol 2 years later and went for that. I prefer many aspects of the petrol but still hanker for the mpg the diesel gave me. No regrets over the purchase of the XC40, easily the best driving position and most comfortable car I have driven in almost 44 years of driving!

The Tucson looks fantastic inside / out. Like something from the future. The Volvo looks good but just like any other car on the segment, probably my parents will love it. Now on the other hand you can not beat all what you get from the Tucson compare to the volvo for the price. Tucson takes this one. Good review.

Great review. And totally agree with all you said about the XC40 vs Tucson Hybrid. However , one thing that completely imbalances the review is “value”. If you are comparing cars , then I think it’s important to let your viewers know how much each car costs with certain trims ‘ additional extras etc. When you take into account all the kit included on the Tucson vs what you have to pay for on the Volvo, then that gives a more balanced review.

I find the comment about the lag when you want quick acceleration from the Tucson to be a bit strange, I own a Tucson Hybrid and when I press the accelerator hard the car accelerates quite rapidly with no sign of any lag, I compared it to my wife’s Toyota C-HR Hybrid, which has a 1.8 engine compared to the Tucson’s 1.6, and the Tucson is by far the quicker accelerator of the two.

I'm all for the Hyundai Tucson, great value and a car that is known for reliability, as is the Volvo but much more expensive. I'm collecting my new 2022 Tucson in 7 days with a bit of luck and it arrives at the dealership on time. By the way, just a question about the indicators; why would you be looking over your shoulder if you are turning right or left? If you are reversing there's a reversing camera on all models! I enjoyed the rest of the review though. But, I don't think these are the right cars to be comparing; if you can afford a Volvo you probably won't even be considering the Hyundai!!

When you claim that one is better than the other in any aspect, please explain why. You said that the interior quality is better in xc40 (multiple times), but apart from carpet in door bins, i really don't see any difference. Soft materials at the top, cheaper plastic lower on the central console (and even seems more premium to me on Tucson - a lot of metal&piano black on the console instead of cheap plastic only), ...you tested wobbling of it on Tucson, but not on XC40... really not a great display of something that you repeat a few times as a difference.

Volvo solves all inconveniences and small problems of the Tucson quality (interior noises, suspension, paint quality, interior quality, etc), but this comes with a higher cost. Tucson remains best value for money while Volvo is best quality for money, even if you pay double price for that quality.

I set the temperature and then I leave it at the temp unless I don't like it, then I change it until I find the perfect temperature. After that I don't touch it. Who is constantly changing temperature while driving? It's stupid and you didn't do it all the time with the older systems. Volume control is on steering wheel, easy access, there's a reason (luckily they didn't listen to you) nobody ever put climate control on the steering wheel, you set it and then you stop fiddling around like a toddler.

I just recently traded a 2018 Ford Fusion 2.0L AWD Ecoboost, and the best I could do with that was 25mpg freeway. to your point regarding the lack of a dial or button, I will quote a line from the movie " Seabiscuit" with Jeff Bridges where his son is reading a book about Flash Gordon,, Jeff Bridges character asks his son why is he reading when he could be outdoors, and his son responds, but Dad, it's about the future. Our phones are all touch, as are most of our appliances, so I think Hyundai are leaders in this regard. Eventually this will be the way of the future as most of the tech in these cars are experimental for autonomous driving, which by the way is where I draw the line.

I've just traded in a Honda 1.6 diesel injection car achieving without hybrid tech a good average of 55.5 mpg which makes these cars, the Volvo and the Tucson look positively arthritic! Puts the argument for climate "zero" back into perspective. Why not just go to efficient diesel technology?
@stephenwakeman3074
@stephenwakeman3074 2 жыл бұрын
What car was it? 55 MPG for a diesel isn’t stellar, since diesel as a fuel has more power potential. Diesel is a fossil fuel. On short and extra urban journeys the DPF will clog, whereas on petrol hybrids and full EV this isn’t an issue. When you say it makes those cars appear arthritic, in what sense?

So this is the dilemma I faced about a year ago... xc40 or Tucson hybrid "ultimate" spec. In the end I went for the Tuscon and it was ultimately the slightly better practicality and space that won the day. All in all the Tucson is a good car, distinctive looking very well equipped with a lots of positive attributes, my main criticisms are (after 4000 miles) that the ride is firm, the infotainment system is while mostly very good also actually quite fiddly, I previously had a Mazda cx5 which was a great car that has markedly better build quality and in reality I'd have gotten another one but hybrid was not an option at the time. One thing to watch for though is that lane change camera set up in this video is not a standard feature on any trim level and is actually a paid optional extra. Overall I'm quite happy with my choice... that being said I do occasionally pine for the xc40 though which in my opinion is an altogether "cooler" prospect.

@mattmarlow4166 Of course, it depends on your daily usage etc. But the marketplace is full of unsold ICE cars, no matter what the dealers tell you. So prices are becoming sensible. A very mint Renault Zoe can be purchased under £5k (look at EVM). A lease can fill you car needs for short term (leaseloco). A hybrid will definitely have better residuals than ICE. For sure there is NO CHIP shortage and it is a buyers market. As an ex rally driver and car lover, I can guarantee that a family car as a full electric is the easiest and nicest drive. Whilst a light weight sports car is still best as a petrol (not hybrid). What each person chooses, has to be their own personal choice.

@@cosmingosav Here on Balkan only 10-15% people buy new cars, and with our standard 300-400$ a month, everybody drives second hand cars from Germany mostly 5-10y old. And in my life I have just ones buys second hand car Peugeot 3008, automatic and I think ill never again will buy another second hand car ( only if is not from someone who I knows with real history maintenance). I have another BMW X3 2.0 d, but when I buy it new it was 55 000€ M pack. And on the x3 I have 140000km for 9y . I I don’t want to sell it before 200000km cuz I have maintained that suv real good.
