The wife and I were visiting in New England years ago. We were walking up to the side doors of our hotel when I hear the blood curdling screams. I hunted all my life but never heard anything like that before. Again I'm from Ohio. I ask the wife WTF was that? After getting to the hotel room I did a bunch of searching and found out it was a Fisher. Pretty cool experience.

Hearing a Fisher is freaking scary. Was out with three dogs, one screached about a 100 feet away at night. All I could see was the two yellow eyes. My dogs, who chase everything from deer to Bears, ignored the fisher as they knew it was bad. They looked like “we don’t hear anything!” The Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

I grew up in NH. Fishercats roam the woods there. But it is rare to see one. It is fabulous to see one. You are lucky to have experienced that. I’ve spent thousands of hours in the woods up there during all four seasons and have only seen a few. I live in Louisiana now and we see little minks all the time. Like 2-3 times a month. They look like miniature fishercats! That fishercat blessed you!

I remember how back in the Good Old Days my grandma could make just one Fisher Cat feed a family of three adults and four children at Thanksgiving. Grandma had recipes handed down to her for generations that, despite the fact most folks thought of the Fisher cat as "the lowest of vittles," would make it taste like fillet mignon (not that any of us knew what that tasted like) with the love that she put into every meal she prepared but especially when we were dirt poor and the only food we could afford to buy was that which we stole. I doubt we would have survived the notorious winter of '37 in our shack like cabin if it hadn't been for grandma and her Fisher cat tortillas and for the Fisher fur slippers she made each of us. Watching this video brought back memories of good food and good times with the family. Grandma, if you can hear me, thank you for the memories and sorry that we had to eat you during the winter of 37. We didn't have a choice you realise. The woods around us had been stripped of Fisher cats and needs, must.

New to the live trap I see. It couldn't have bitten you through the handle shield, and only wanted free not to fight. It's pretty hard to get a ground hog in one of those. Use a leg hold near its den or a hole it frequents. Live traps are great for catching squirrels that eat my corn and berries though.....somtimes I get other critters that I let go. I wish we had some fishercats in my area it would be less work for me.

@@danykasilvernail I was 12 or 13, first racoon I ever caught in a trap, of of cheese wiz, grabbed a tree branch aka club and wacked this coon over the head , I wasn't strong enough to get the trap off its foot so I just carried the coon in the trap my the trap basically dragging it behind me back to the house. About half way across the field I was in, this coon decided it was NOT dead. and not only that it was PISSED THE F**K OFF !!!!! That thing came for me with a vengeance and a score to settle. Grabbed a hold of my leg and here I am in this wide open field screaming a war cry like no other. my pant leg is tore to pieces. I see blood everywhere. and this beast of a creature is having a field day of whooping my ass. In the heat of my screams I see my uncle come running and I mean a dead sprint run full bore wide open straight at me across the field and this goliath of a coon in full engaged war mode on my leg.. In one fail swoop and never breaking his stride my uncle reached down and grabbed this coon still in the trap and BODY SLAMMED this coon into the cold frozen ground. picked it back up and slammed it again. it was dead. he came up to me with coon in hand in trap and knelt down and looked over my leg , im crying buckets , he asked me if i was ok, and I said NOOOOOOOOOOO, he looked up at me, with his free hand picked my up and ever so sofly he said, Well , you are now.... oh i hugged his so tight.. so tight, and the rest of the way he never put me down or that coon . Grandma patched me up like grandmas do and told me , next time , make sure their dead before you move them. lololol I got 30 bucks for that hide , they said it was a jumbo size , that was in 1982 or 3. To this very day , any animal that has ever bitten me has died. And I will never forget the wrath of my uncle protecting me and his soft words of Are you ok ? Well , you are now .

We often set traps for woodchucks, since they like to devastate our gardens. Geez, I thought we had it bad when we accidentally caught a skunk once. Fisher cats are super vicious! We used broccoli for bait. What did you use for bait, so I know what to avoid? I sure hope we don't get those fisher cats around here. I bet they'd wreak havoc with my chickens. Beautiful animal, but I hear they're related to wolverines.

I was whitetail deer hunting in Wisconsin when a Fisher cat jumped on a log I was sitting on and almost ran over me. That thing had the teeth of a Wolverine and was big, just kept on going - never bothered me a bit.

Do not leave a trap unattended. You also need the trap with the door at the end for releasing dangerous animals .

We moved to New Hampshire twenty years ago. People told us we would, no doubt, see frequent signs posted on trees and telephone poles about missing cats. Fishers, they said, were the problem. They specialized in domestic cats. They're so agile, they can run down squirrels, chasing them through the tree tops. Anything in the weasel family seems to be treacherous ... especially when they get elected and move to Washington DC.

Why do people insist on calling them "fisher cats"? They ARE NOT cats or even related to cats. They are members of the WEASEL family.

I didnt wanna say it but cmon man, you dont have to be scared of him when he's IN the cage, he doesn't have laser beams lol from the start this guy had no idea what to do... it makes me question his original plans to "catch" whatever he thought was eating his stuff. How about protect your stuff better instead of trying to catch the whole the animal kingdom you fuggin jagoff now go put the trap back in the attic lol

I apologize, but you could have used your bare hands to open cage in the 1st place. No animal of that size can bite you through cage. It takes 5 seconds to open and hold for quick release. I hope you had good plans for the groundhog you eventually caught, e.g. release it too..
