Here are more than 20 common and essential phrasal verbs you need to know! Sometimes we can avoid phrasal verbs by using a word that has a similar meaning, but there are some phrasal verbs which are very difficult to avoid. @@fongbeng9072 They basically mean the same thing :fight is the noun whereas fighting is the action (like the talk and the talking). Remember, do not use the preposition /in/ in both sentences. We say the fight lasted ten minutes. Best.

"Io sono cresciuto in questa casa." 10:27 sign in : loggarsi. "Adesso mi loggo." 10:56 sign out : sloggarsi. "Adesso mi sloggo." sit down : sedersi, essere seduto. Ora mi siedo. Hi, Max! How do you do? I think both "wake up" and "get up" are separable phrasal verbs. For example, my mom often wakes me up in the morning. She usually gets me up around five.

Yes, they can be separable or inseparable. In the examples that I demonstrated they're inseparable. :)

Thanks a lot Max. Your teaching style is amazing and I do love it. It is obvious that there is a difference between the meaning of phrasal verbs and that of the normal verbs but is there any rule or pattern that might help English learners to make an educated guess of the meaning of phrasal verbs. For instance, the existence of the word "down" in words as in cut down, put down, go down, etc which all imply the meaning of "decrease".

Oh I still remember being frustrated every time a phrasal verb was the essential part (and it usually is) of a sentence and I needed to guess its meaning... Of course that stil happens today, but I've learned to enjoy the process of learning new ones as often as I can!

- When using log in (as 2 words), it is being used as a verb showing an action… telling someone to take action…go log in. - When using login (as 1 word), it is being used as a noun or adjective indicating a place or destination… go to the login or go to the login page. The same thinking applies to log out vs. logout
