Best advice on the pre. inspection. I had one preowned V8 Certified Pre-Owned by MB that turned up fail, no deal after an inspection. Best money I spent.

The tire replacement is right on the second line of the repair order, which is why the "parts" cost of mounting and balancing 4 tires is $1600. They also replaced air filter, all the belts, cabin filter, and detail of course. When I used to sell cars we didn't like to take deposits either, but mostly just because people wanted to leave $100 to hold a $40,000 vehicle hostage for a week+. I would always tell customers if you are serious about this, then come down here and see the car. Every used car we took in trade went to a mechanic that was specifically hired to do preowned vehicle inspections before we were even able to list it on our website. Still sucks they sold it out from under you, but on the other hand I also understand if it was parked in their showroom, they didn't have any paperwork or deposit from you, and then someone showed up ready to rock. To me it just sounds like there were multiple customers interested in the car talking with different salesmen, so they didn't want to take money to hold it, because if that person backed out than they would have missed a sale from someone else. The bottom line is, if they are taking deposits on ANYTHING or have in the past, those vehicle should never be sold.

That sucks that you didn’t get the car. I bought my Z/28 back in 2017. It had 600 miles on it for $46k. Also, had a clean carfax. I ended up doing the heads on it just in case.

I was told only use a major bank or loan company for finance. Small places tend to be quick to repo, be late 10 days and car can be repo'd while major banks will wait two or 3 months. Life happens, right now I have a broken foot and can't work so I'm a living example of "life happens while we are busy making plans"

I know we talked about the PPI about it because those valve guides is a concerning issue with them LS7s but like you said everything happened for a reason!

These are my guesses as to what you're getting: It's either a Supra, Mustang, GR86, Hyundai Elantra N, or Golf R 😎

What starts bad - ends bad. You were right to walk away. You’ll find another Z/28 that will be ‘the one’. Budget in the $ to replace the heads on that LS7. It would be a great content for your channel!

Here in NC there were 3 or 4 model year end Z/28's still on the lot I remember. The car buying structure was so different then! I probably could have gotten 5% off and 0% financing back then. Then I saw a few of them again coming off of lease 2 years later and still didn't act. You are right that will be a collector but in this market it will be many years until the thing starts to appreciate in value. It's not a great investment really.

They were super low before the pandemic, as was all cars. I missed out on a Z06. Ended up with a Z-51 Stingray which I love. If i were a rich guy this would be my track car over a ZL-1 1LE all day every day.

My assumption, giving the dealership the benefit of the doubt, is that they may have viewed the car as adequate and saw a third party inspection as a waste of their money when they could pay their own mechanics less to get it done. They might also think that a car like a Camaro won't be hard to sell given its enthusiast appeal, so they don't feel the need to work hard to get that sale. Same reason why I can go on Autotrader and see a new GR Corolla being sold at a dealership in Texas for.........$119k.
