Hey everyone, Kevin here. I figured I’d start a KZfaq channel that felt a little more personable as I brought you all along on my adventures. Florida can be a tough state to camp in. I usually camp twice a week from November until March with friends. I still camp through the summer, just not as frequently as other adventures seem to take up the long summer days. I work rotating 12 hour shifts that allow me to have off 14+ days a month. Combine that with my sense of adventure and I'm able to see what the states really have to offer. So please, go ahead, subscribe and follow along for some fun outdoor adventures!

Those transfer case actuators aren’t That expensive and probably not that hard to change but manual shifter for engaging 4wheel drive is just better

Enjoy that manual transfer case. Only ones left are 4Runner Wrangler and Gladiators. And I’ll bet the next gen 4Runner will not keep it.

Yeah, and I’m sure the next gen 4Runner will be a hybrid or 4cyl turbo. They will end the legendary 4.0 That’s what I’m afraid of. Luckily Jillian has a 4Runner with 80k miles that should last us a very long time. But the 5th generation 4Runner will only go up in value.

I pretty much just "finished" my first (and likely only) overland build. I recently got a 2014 FJ Ultimate edition with about 85,000 miles on it (it was NOT cheap) and did an Icon lift with 35" tires and all that. I went with the Prinsu roof rack and a Roofnest Falcon Pro (on sale right now, I noticed) and also Roofnest's matching batwing awning. Demello bumpers front and rear (I had them do a little custom fab work on the rear bumper as they're local to me in Southern California) and all the LED lights you could ask for.....now I just need to use it! I like your video on the Yakima shower, I think I'll go with that one if I think I need it. I really like the design of the Falcon Pro tent, I've only used it once so far, but it seems well-built....however, I JUST happen to be testing it out tonight in the big rainstorm we are getting out here, and I've noticed a few small leaks, I'm not sure if I should be pissed or resign myself to the fact that a couple leaks is usually normal on a tent? I just ordered some seam sealer, we'll see what it does. I'm also contemplating what to do about the small storage space in the back, I want to keep the rear seats available to take friends and family on rides, so I'm thinking of trying to build my own units in the rear to use every available space that's there, some of the commercial units seem to waste a few inches here and there... I was just going to say, if you have any questions I can try and help, but everything was pretty much bolt on (aside from modding the rear bumper a bit) and went relatively smoothly. I'm thinking the biggest hurdle with an FJ (I'm new to all this, so take my opinions with a grain of salt) is the limited storage space in the rear....and I haven't quite figured that out myself yet. Lol 🤔

Sounds like you have an awesome FJ. I’ve had many roof top tents, I can’t say any of them leaked while I had them set up. But I currently have one that leaks when it’s closed. As far as the rear storage goes, they make a shelf that I’m going to get. Then just keep all my gear very minimal.

Yeah, I really dig the FJ a lot so far, so unique and capable. In fact, for all the "wheeling" I'll ever do, a stock FJ probably would have been just fine, but I like feeling very capable if I ever run into something a little sketchy, plus...it just looks so damn cool! Lol. (Thanks up there dad, don't worry, I'm not going to blow the whole inheritance 😁). I could try sending a couple pics if you're interested. I told myself I "had" to get a 2012-2014 because they came with the crawl control, but again, I'll probably never even need it. but watching that video of a guy unsticking himself from the sand at the beach was damn impressive. I just ordered this roof shelf and window panels from Bison Gear. There are some other options out there, but I decided to go with these, I think because they have the hole you can reach through into the window area, otherwise that area would be wasted space. I remembered back when you did videos, wheeling the back roads driving around and through the muddy trails. And sometimes getting stuck, but that's the fun of it, getting out. Maybe with the FJ we can see more of them ?

👍👍not crazy about the plum/wine color, but you can always get it wrapped. I have a 2002 Suburban, I'm the same way with the key, unlock my door, stick it in the ignition, dials for the ac controls, no push buttons. Does have push button transfer case though, (wish it was manual) but for me I'm all about the overall simplicity. Good luck on the build, you'll need that 4x4 on your property in NC

I wasn’t crazy about the color. But I couldn’t be picky when I was more concerned about having no rust. That suburban is a good year! This should last a long time. Thanks for watching!

No way! Awesome. It needs some attention on the front end. I think the sway bar link bushings are worn. Other than that, seems like it’s pretty solid.

Hell yea, I had a feeling it was gonna be a FJ. I love my '16 Tundra but Im always eyeing up these leftover FJ's, they're awesome especially when all hooked up for camping/off-roading etc.

I feel the same. My 2014 Tundra 4x4 has just enough electronics to be modern but nothing crazy like the newer vehicles. I would prefer a manual transfer case also but oh well, 10 years later the electronic transfer still works just fine

Congratulations ... FJs are pretty cool. You nailed it ... simple mechanical stuff is usually tougher and easier to fix if there are any issues. My 98 Montero is pretty simple but it's stout and great where it counts.

I want a vehicle that will last until I retire from my job. A modern day Jeep isn’t that. These Toyotas are known to go 400k with just maintenance.

I can tell you all about the ones here in central Florida. Most of them are rebuilt title or super rusty. But they won’t tell you that until you drive out there and look for yourself.
