I have the same model ski. Your battery was back there on the starboard side presumably very close to fully submerged in salt water! It's seems very lucky you were able to start your engine. I'm glad you made it back ok. Your experience makes me think I should do something better about securing those hatches on my ski. I'm not sure what. Maybe some sort of safety pin to prevent accidental unlocking of the hatch. Anyway, nice fish and enjoy your next trip out. Trouble free I hope. 👍

Thanks for watching mate, I'm pretty sure the battery was close to submerged, honestly surprised it was able to start so was very lucky there. Having hatches there is a bad design isn't it, it's good the newer skis from 2016 doesn't have hatches there anymore and it's a fully sealed area.

Seriously scary situation, I can relate because go offshore a bit myself in the Gulf of Thailand. I was curious, does your year Seadoo have a bilge clearing device that works off of suction created by the jet pump? My 2018 Waverunner VX has such a device but one time I had a problem with the internal backflow part of it and I took on some water, luckily at a lake instead of the sea. I plan on adding an electric bilge pump as well that will run off the second battery.

I'm only a couple of months into owning a ski so this might be the dumbest question ever, but if i ever get into this situation I want to be able to act swiftly. I realise this would involve getting wet, and time being of the essence maybe a bit dicey, but with the bung system having a one way valve, would opening the bungs while at sea have done anything to help drain water out as well ?
@FishoDavo
@FishoDavo 10 ай бұрын
Hey mate thanks for watching and commenting and it's not a dumb question at all. At the time I did think about getting in the water to close and lock the hatch, but in the end I didn't as my thinking was that the ski was already really imbalanced due to the water so getting back on the ski would of been impossible, it would of kept flipping over or the bottom may have sunk already. So in this instance I wouldn't of got in the water to open the one way bungs

It's a 2012 model, from 2016 it doesn't have this issue anymore. I did try to reach back and almost flipped which was the part of the video after I put the fish in. I did think about getting in the water to close the hatch, but I didn't as I thought the ski would be too unstable for me to try get back on

Hey mate, cheers for watching, yes I think that would work, I was thinking about that option at the time, but I think that getting back on the ski would be really hard after that due to the inbalance in weight in the ski, the water would just roll to whichever side the ski was leaning

Are you sure the open hatch was your only issue?? Once you started moving, then you won't get water coming into the hatch anymore, and the venturi tubes will drain the hull... So with no water coming, your hull should have been empty by the time you got back to the ramp? Unless your venturi tubes are blocked/kinked?? Or you have another leak which kept letting water in while your venturi tubes tried to drain... Maybe check your carbon seal just in case? And check that your venturi tubes are fine...

I too am glad you got yourself and the ski back safely however lack of common sense was the root of this situation. You should always check your drain plugs and hatches before putting any jet ski in the water and lastly you were messing around with the fish and trying to secure your sunglasses instead of concentrating on safety.

You need to install an automatic bilge pump for your own safety on the water …

Hee well things happen as low as you made it back and the ski had no damage good learning experience... Plus just so you know the reason why you start gain speed was because there is a mechanical builg in skis for safety that suck water out of your ski while your prop is spinning so if you leave the engine running water will go out as long as it doesn't come back in plus not sure if you know but if you remove your bungs while riding in case of water in the ski they are designed to drain your hull faster on the water then on land so if it happens again just start engine pull the bungs and ride no stop 😂😂😂. Thanks for sharing but an automatic bilge pump would at least warned you water was entering the ski allowing you to get on the problem before filling the ski up 😂

Thanks really great insight and knowledge, thanks for sharing this info with me. In this instance don't think I can open the bungs, there was so much water in there I think it was about to go under from the weight

Set up a GPS on it. Safety equipment is worth the money. Take a spare gas tank as an emergency

IMHO: If you've had the ski for a while, you should have known there was something off. At that point, you should’ve ridden close to shore and tried to fix it

All that safety equipment and no bilge pump? Off shore???? If you had an auto starting bilge pump, you would've known right away you have a problem when you see the water shooting out of the bilge outlet.

@@FishoDavo you don't see the added dangers? Kayaks is exposure and huge sharks Jet ski's are renowned for lack of reliability and if you do it in South Africa well their sharks can jump, even here in OZ a mako can take you out. I'm sure you're loving it though so I guess if you're having fun it must be worth it lol

@FishoDavo 10 ай бұрын
Yeah we're in NZ and I've seen Mako's jump too, there's risks to a lot of sports and outdoor activities generally the chances of it happening are quite low. The first and last time I tried kayak fishing I had a shark come up right next to me, I could of petted it, that's when I decided kayak fishing wasn't for me and I got a jetski.

A flipped PWC won't sink because its hull is designed to float even if it takes on water, stop get off, shut hatch and stop making sunk videos. if you are to scared to get off you should not own a PWC.

If the front buoyancy keeps the ski from sinking its still going to be 70% underwater with the whole back underwater, what happened in this video is much better than that option
