I AM DRACULA muhahaha....In this video you'll learn the Vampire Scale on guitar. Also known as the Hungarian Minor Scale. I call it the Vampire Scale because of the evil vampire vibes and haunting tones. Think of this scale as Harmonic Minor with a raised 4th degree. The notes are E-F#-G-A#-B-C-D#. Most guitar players stop after learning the scale shape.... but there's much more to scales if you want to write music. We'll also learn some chord progressions you can use and even Counterpoint phrases to generate musical ideas. Counterpoint is amazing for metal guitar players who'd like to make more interesting riffs. Instead of regular power chords in a typical Iron Maiden progression, try some contrary motion. One of my favorite songs by Cirith Ungol called Finger of Scorn has great counter point in the acoustic part of the song. I believe Iron Maiden the song from Iron Maiden the band has the opening guitar harmony counts as a counter point.

Thank you always. I absolutely love watching great guitarist play. You are awesome. I need to save this. I loved Jeff Beck he was so unique with his stratocaster, he was like no one else. A lot of guitarist's like James Hettfield said their music came from somewhere else.🎸

I've listened to Megadeath, Dave Mustaine has been around a long time as you know and has been in several bands. He has some good and bad times during his life.. To me he is awesome. Even though he started Metallica, I still think Metallica is great. There was a time for me Mustaine got too dark for me and I haven't listened to him in awhile. Thanks, I'll listen to some of his recent metal👍

I love these scales because they sound so intimidating, but hungarian minor is literally the harmonic minor scale with a #4, or a natural minor scale with a #4 and natural 7. Just change those one or two notes and you have a completely different vibe

Hi Shred! This is actually used in the theme for the movie Bram Stoker's Dracula from 1992. It gives the harmonic minor added 'evilness666'. Super fun to play three notes per string, check it out!.

Thanks: This inspired me to write 5 measures of a 5 part Renaissance style piece with the main melody in F Hungarian Minor, another line in Messiaen Mode 4, and a line in Messiaen Mode 3 1st rotation, a bass and a filler line.

Great video! You can do a lot with Hungarian minor. Just another note, I’m sure you already know this Shred, but for everyone else out there: because Hungarian minor is also the fourth mode of the Byzantine scale, in this key of Hungarian minor you’ve chosen (E), if you play all the same notes as E Hungarian minor but start on B, you get the B Byzantine scale. It’s really fascinating how this works so well, as the home chord of B Byzantine literally leads perfectly into E Hungarian minor; yet, on most theory videos I’ve watched, the Byzantine, or “double harmonic major” is referred to as the parent scale, and Hungarian minor as its fourth mode. Sometimes I prefer to look at it as if Hungarian minor is the parent scale and the Byzantine scale is its fifth mode (which also works). Regardless, all the modes of this collection of notes should be more widely used. One other suggestion Shred, please make a video on octatonic scales, unless you have already, they are also underused in most popular music.

Well Dorian #4 is also known as Romanian Minor and you can create vampiric sounds with that too, I guess both of these scale work in that way
