I never realsied this on my first viewing but this video really has heavy themes of oppresion and its modern forms. the line "im just a fish" shows that he has been mistreated so much that he believes that he is "just a fish" and not "a fish". he believes that he is not worthy of being anyone meaningful because of all the ideas in the modern world. another powerful line is "i dream of you almost every night" which could be a metaphor for true happiness and freedom which links to the "I'm just a fish" line. and lastly the line "hopefully ill swim away this time" is a metaphor for trying to get out of an oppressive system and also shows that the fish man has tried many times which is likely why he is depressed about being a fish. overall this song has deep messages which one could easily over look.

This is actually pretty deep. The lines “my mouth is filled with hooks I bite” and “hopefully I’ll swim away this time” really just show you that the fish is suffering through all this. Then the line at the beginning “help me swim away” shows he’s begging for help, but the people he’s talking to aren’t going to help him. Then, when he realizes this, he begins singing “hopefully I’ll swim away this time” I think this drives home the point that he knows what he is doing is wrong and hurtful to himself, but he just can’t stop. It’s a really deep and interesting concept. However, in the end, he’s just a fish
