I really enjoy learning how to make games but I've always struggled staying motivated. To fix that I decided to start making small mini-games with the intention of annoying my friends. This game is a short rhythm game made in Godot over the course of a few weekends. Enjoy!

Hi, this is a really nice game. Although I noticed a issue with the sprites, the problem is all your sprites are low resolution. And when pixel art is upscaled, it's extremely blurred. But all you have to do to fix that is reimport your assets with filter off. In that case, you'll have pixel art looking as proper! P.S The import button is next to the scene button

In Godot 4 it's a property in CanvasItem nodes for turning texture filtering on/off (this setting is applied to all child/grandchild nodes etc so just set it for your top level CanvasItem/Control/Node2D nodes). It's no longer an import setting.

@@kevinscales oh man that's great to hear. i enjoyed Godot when i first tried it but found this (and a few other things) to be so unnecessarily clunky-with this and the new functional capabilities they added to GDscript, i might give it a shot again 😁

Bro... I literally made the exact same rhythm mechanics (I was covering DDR) in a game jam that I did like 6 months ago! Same engine and even started in the same place (implementing the conductor). The coincidence is too great and I was just shocked the entire time watching this. Great stuff!

I'm sorry your game didn't work out, but if it's any consolation, looking at your first video you set out to make a really grounded and achievable game which is something very few people get right. I'm sure you will do well in the future!

Thanks so much! I still intend to make a full game some day, but I really need to focus on learning the basics first. The last 2 large projects I tried working on I ended up burning out to just wanting to re-write everything after learning better and more efficient ways of doing things. I'm hoping once I have a better grasp on the basics I'll be able to build a better foundation without feeling like I'm coding myself into a hole

Ok I think this man really underestimates what scratch can really do. But yes something made by a six year old would be terrible, but if you actually look at turbowarp, which just allows for scratch projects to be run faster, you will find the true gems and highlights of scratch, from a small Minecraft demo, to physics engines, and even full on retro game engines all made from scratch. (Pun intended). I really think that people put scratch down for it's limitations and bad reputation of projects, but we must make sure they see the light.

Hello there, currently I'm trying to learn Godot with c# but I just can't seem to find any good resources to learn it with. I've been looking all around but there just seems to be a lack of tutorials. Can you give me some resources you used?
@CasuallyCreative_
@CasuallyCreative_ Жыл бұрын
Honestly I feel you. Unfortunately I can't really help much. I relied heavily on my small amount of Unity experience and the Godot documentation to figure things out. A lot of the time I had to just try to convert gdscript to c#. Thankfully a lot of the functions are similar but stuff for like tilemaps I found myself just having to dig through documentation for a good amount of time to get some answers, especially for Godot 4 where things are changed for tilemap stuff

I do hope you know that most of Unity's controversy was a misunderstanding. It was mainly them partnering with a company that was associated with viruses, because people ended up using their app to spread viruses (The company couldn't do anything to stop this). The only non-misunderstanding was ceo calling people f***ing idiots. They were saying "If you don't do this, you are an idiot" but it's still not good to call someone an idiot.
@CasuallyCreative_
@CasuallyCreative_ Жыл бұрын
I make a lot of jokes in my videos but that wasn't really a joke, I genuinely was just too lazy to read into it but I assumed that the controversy was blown out of proportion and I have nothing against Unity. I will say, I didn't start using Godot because of the controversy, me saying that was just for the bit, I just like learning new things. I basically saw the articles pop up and thought "I should get back into game dev and Godot seemed kind of interesting"
