Considering you are not experienced campers you are doing a fantastic job. We spent many years moto camping trying different setups, thicker sleeping bags, more thermal clothes but still couldn’t get it right but in the end we sussed it. Your number 1 and highest priority is your bed, this must come before anything else, get your bed right and you will be right. Hot air rises, cold air falls so your floor area is the coldest part of your tent and your bed is in the coldest part, also having your air mattress against the cold floor is making the air temperature inside plumit to the same temperature as the ground and then you are lying on it, in simple terms you are sleeping on an ice cube. Took us years to figure this and the answer is you have to get your air mattress off the ground, not on top of a matt but literally off the ground. The best investment is a fold up camp bed, the ones that fold up into a small bag then put your air mattress on top of that. You only need to be 4-5 inches minimum off the ground but that is a game changer. We always take a hot water bottle too but if the site has electrics always use the electric, we have tiny little 500w heaters that are smaller than a camping saucepan. Warm at night is the gospel you need to conquer. Our set up is we pack our beds first in the luggage from that we know how much room we have left or decide what we need to not pack. The bed comes first regardless of how much room it takes, it’s easier to leave other items out than than many any compromise on your bed.
@ontheroadadventure
@ontheroadadventure 2 ай бұрын
Is there a name or brand for that fold up bed? we will defo look at it and see if we can prioritise its space somehow. Trouble we have is we carry the filming equipment aswell as the usual stuff, we have identified ways to make things a bit smaller though, that seems to be key

That looked hellish and in all the times I’ve ridden through Spain, I’ve never experienced it. Many years ago I went to north Wales for my friend to test ride the new triumph 1050 tiger. On the ride he said he was hit by a side wind between a break in the trees and stone wall and said it blew him across the road into the opposite carriageway, fortunately nothing was coming. Safety first where wind is

Off to Potes tomorrow for 3 nights to explore the Picos de Europa. Boat boat back on Thursday. There's absolutely no way on earth that I would do this camping, even though we're in June, let alone April. As for camping while unwell, just beggars belief. All credit to you. 💪💪💪

I feel your pain, we were caught in some gale force winds coming south east from Calais heading towards the Alps in April (26th-28Th)this year , it was relentless and like you we were trying to make distance so were using the motorways with absolutely nothing to shelter you and not to mention the massive effect on the fuel economy dropping my range to almost half of what would be normal. Unlike you though we using Airbnb accommodation which was surprisingly cost effect , so no struggling with a tent and at probably twice your age I have no desire to ever consider camping ........ Stay safe out there and don't try to be hero's ..... look forward to the next episode

When I walked Spain in 2000, Aragon was often cold and windy even in early June. There were days when I thought I would sweat to death. Vultures were circling me, no joke. Couple days later, I was wearing everything I had with me, trying to shrug off the wind. Several days I had earplugs in the entire time to cut the wind noise -- from merely HIKING. Those towns that look happening, but are all closed up. They were a challenge hiking. Always had to load up on bread, dried sausage, peanuts, hard cheese, because you never knew if the next town would have food stores, or if they'd be open where you were there.

Would have bet just to set at the petrol station out of the windy ride was like heaven, dont know if that were a cold wind that was blowing or a hot one. but during the cold winds when you get cold on the bike does not make the ride very pleasant. Hot winds specially in dry sandy areas does not make the ride pleasant specially with the sand blowing. Maybe there was something dead or maybe they are waiting for something to die so that they can have a feast on it. It was amazing to see them in the natural habitat. At least you got a campsite with tree and shade especially if it getting hot over there. Just looking at the top of the tree one can see how the wind is blowing over there. Like the way Ewa spoke of how she got the sausages I canned myself just the way how she described it. Was that 21:00 at night on the outside it looked like in the middle of the day but in the tent its dark. How does the stars in the sky look over there during the evening. Its so refreshing to us to not bit surrounded by people and sat in lines of traffic, we hate cities for this reason.... But you do want a open cafe and coffee shop in every town. The Uk is great for this, no matter how small the village youll find a pub where you can get a coffee, food and a pee...

We have considered buying a smaller tent! Both have pros and cons, the smaller pack size would be very useful to us, but crawling out a tent in the night when raining to go for a pee is not going to be ideal...

People say riding through France is hard work but it's a doddle compared to Spain. We missed running the bulls in Tafalla by a day, perhaps for the better. Seems a lot of towns in Navarre run the bulls through the streets judging by the number of fences we saw. The Spanish do know how to party.

It’s horrible when it’s that windy, remember years ago the first time I experienced it was on the motorway in the south of France A9 towards Perpignan, it’s horrible, As for the cold (I don’t do cold) an essential piece of kit is a electric cable and small heater, cable isn’t the normal big camping cable more like a normal extension lead, game changer, Another good one 👍
