The human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for individuals through age 45. The recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that individuals 27-45 years old should use shared clinical decision-making with a health care provider to determine if the HPV vaccine is still appropriate and beneficial for them. This conversation may include discussing why the individual wants the HPV vaccine at this stage in life, potential past exposures to the HPV virus, and benefits of vaccination.
