Spain vs Italy was a tactical battle for the ages. From Spain's False 9 to activating Chiellini to support the MF. Both teams made many adjustments within the game to counteract the opposition. You can tell Jose really appreciated studying it as a peer.

Egg was on Italy's face, Enrique's choice to use a false 9 was nearly a master stroke because they absolutely swamped the midfield. However, offensively, it did actually *cost* Spain because while they had an enormous amount of possession (and a ridiculous amount of passes, in the end), I never felt Spain were genuinely very threatening in the final third. In fact, until Spain scored, Italy had *more* shots on goals and actual clear cut chances and go figure, as soon as they put in a proper striker, they ended up finding space and scoring (never give Morata space to run at defenders, he's tremendous at that). Italy had to win this game ugly, the midfield was overrun, but the team maintained composure and given their performances over the entire tournament, I think deserved to be in the final. I don't think either Denmark nor England are capable of doing what Spain did in that midfield, in fact, no team in the world other than Spain (and ironically, maybe Italy now) can do what they did yesterday.

England plays differently, they also have a proper striker, but this could help Chiellini and Bonucci, see what happened to Lukaku. I think it will be a tough match tho, we don't have good l/r backs and Englad's wings are pretty scary.

Excellent analysis. This game could have gone either way. Spain actually improved as a team as the tournament went on. Just didn't have a proven striker like Villa or Torres even. World Cup will be very interesting.

And about spurs don't even start , kane and son had the best time of their career, he brought in hpiberg as a midfield general, all they needed was patience. When he was with Porto, his first run with Chelsea, and Inter, he was coaching mature players that knew how to listen and learn, and were willing to take criticism in a constructive way and use it to improve their game. That's why those teams were successful. Nowadays, like every other coach, he has to deal with a generation of snowflake crybabies who've never heard the word "no" in their lives and aren't used to being told that they're wrong and need to do better because it "hurts their feelings".

Was watching the match and thinking, what really is Spain missing.Their forwards Oyarzabal and Torres were getting on the blind side of Italy fullbacks,Florenzi and Emerson but lacking the pace to progress towards goal and produce a real threat. I was the happiest seeing Adama Traore warm up, then Morata scores and Adama is seated,oh My God. Spain's left side became numb.Morata would run into those channels but nobody would occupy his vacated space.That should have been Adama's channel,Morata stays centrally and Moreno hugs the right touchline cutting inside.How the match would have turned out then,but still it's just a wish

@Nathan. Yes, we all know Spain need better finishers going forward but that's all they have, but with 15 minutes to go a sub can make a difference, and sadly Thiago wasn't what was needed, that's my point.

A lot of mistakes from Mancini. When he saw olmo at the pitch, you have to react and play Chiesa up front. He could play the same role for Italian like olmo for Spain. This is the main reason why they dominated the ball.
