What's really creepy is with the use of a single word :("impossible") it created an impossible task. If anyone plays the "impossible shapes", they have just proven those shapes are not impossible to play, so they have to keep searching forever and ever for shapes that are impossible to play. And as they learn to play each of those shapes, they prove again that even those shapes are possible. And on it goes, until the player realizes their predicament and gives up.

Well, the thing is, it's not even possible to attempt playing part of it. Once the bass player plays the "impossible shapes" they prove those particular shapes were not impossible to play, and they have to try again and again and again until the bass player realizes they were beaten before ever even deciding to make the attempt. And beaten by the sneaky placement of a single word too.

That was a great interpretation of what ChatGPT will create based off of an ambiguous prompt and allowing it to interpret, but if you give it a little push in a direction such as "Can you compose an impossible bass solo? What is the toughest bass solo you can compose? This will be used as a test of skill at a bass contest." It gives you something else: such as "Composing an "impossible" bass solo can be interpreted in many ways. It might mean using techniques that are extremely difficult to master, playing at high speed, or incorporating complex rhythms and scales. However, keep in mind that what's possible for one musician might be impossible for another, and vice versa. Here's a challenging bass solo, written in tablature, that uses a variety of techniques including tapping, slap/pop, and fast fingerstyle playing: E|---------------------------------------------------------|-------------------------------------------------------------| B|---------------------------------------------------------|-------------------------------------------------------------| G|-----------------5h7p5---------------------5h7p5---------|-----------------5h7p5---------------------5h7p5-------------| D|-----------5h7--------7-----------5h7----------7---------|-----------5h7--------7-----------5h7----------7-------------| A|------5h7----------------7---5h7---------------7---------|------5h7----------------7---5h7---------------7-------------| E|--5h7----------------------------------------------------|--5h7--------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------|-------------------------------------------------------------| B|---------------------------------------------------------|-------------------------------------------------------------| G|-----------------7h9p7---------------------7h9p7---------|-----------------7h9p7---------------------7h9p7-------------| D|-----------7h9--------9-----------7h9----------9---------|-----------7h9--------9-----------7h9----------9-------------| A|------7h9----------------9---7h9---------------9---------|------7h9----------------9---7h9---------------9-------------| E|--7h9----------------------------------------------------|--7h9--------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------|-------------------------------------------------------------| B|---------------------------------------------------------|-------------------------------------------------------------| G|-----------------9h11p9---------------------9h11p9-------|-----------------9h11p9---------------------9h11p9-----------| D|-----------9h11-------11-----------9h11---------11-------|-----------9h11-------11-----------9h11---------11-----------| A|------9h11----------------11---9h11--------------11------|------9h11----------------11---9h11--------------11----------| E|--9h11---------------------------------------------------|--9h11-------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------|-------------------------------------------------------------| B|---------------------------------------------------------|-------------------------------------------------------------| G|-----------------11h13p11---------------------11h13p11---|-----------------11h13p11---------------------11h13p11-------| D|-----------11h13--------13-----------11h13---------13----|-----------11h13--------13-----------11h13---------13--------| A|------11h13----------------13---11h13--------------13----|------11h13----------------13---11h13--------------13--------| E|--11h13--------------------------------------------------|--11h13------------------------------------------------------| E|-------------------------7h9p7---------------------------|-------------------------7h9p7-------------------------------| B|-------------------7h9--------9---------------------------|-------------------7h9--------9-----------------------------| G|---------------7h9--------------9-------------------------|---------------7h9--------------9---------------------------| D|-----------7h9------------------9-------------------------|-----------7h9------------------9---------------------------| A|-------7h9----------------------9-------------------------|-------7h9----------------------9---------------------------| E|---7h9---------------------------------------------------|---7h9-----------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------|-------------------------------------------------------------| B|---------------------------------------------------------|-------------------------------------------------------------| G|-----------------9h11p9---------------------9h11p9-------|-----------------9h11p9---------------------9h11p9-----------| D| I have no idea how to play this but this is what ChatGPT gave me with your idea. Ok so this isn't how I thought this would go. I actually figured you might give it a prompt and make it actually write a solo for you. Regardless, what you did was insane as always!! Absolutely nailed it!! Still, if you want to try making it ACTUALLY compose something for you, I came up with this prompt. Feel free to steal and tweak it and see what nonsense it spits out for you lmao ChatGPT prompt v v v You are a bass soloist coming up with their next piece, when suddenly, a melody hits you. Unfortunately for you, however, not only is this melody fantastic.. it’s technically impossible. Using the following format and restrictions, write out what this impossible solo was. Then, at the end, explain how it's impossible and what you'd need to play it. First, some guidelines: 1) You have all notes available to you on a bass, depending on the type of bass you choose. 2) You have all note types available to you, such as eighth notes, triplets, sextuplets, or however complicated you’d like to get. 3) You have all rest types available to you, such as half rest, whole rest, etc. 4) You have all keys and scale modes available to you (example, key of A lydian mode, or key of Eb Dorian mode) and can change the key whenever you feel like it. Same goes for time signatures. 5) You have all methods and techniques of playing available to you, such as slapping, tapping, harmonics, etc. 6) The piece must be within the realm of human possibility, but so technically difficult that it’s virtually impossible for people to play. Then, you will use this format: 1) At the beginning, mention the type of bass this is meant to be played on (4 string, 5 string, 6 string, fretted or fretless, etc). Then, mention the tempo, time signature, and key. If ever there’s a moment these change, restate them again at the moment of the change. 2) For the notes, use this format. First insert note name first if not a rest, then insert note type or rest type second. You can also condense connected notes. So for example, you’d get “Gb2, whole note. C5 F#5, eighth note run. Ab4 Bb4 C4, triplet run.” Etc. 3) Keep sharps and flats related to the established key. If it’s a flat key, only use flats (b) in your notes. If it’s a sharp key, only use sharps (#) in your notes. So for example, in a flat key, do not use C#. Use its alternative, Db. And vice versa, in a sharp key, do not use Gb, use its alternative F#. 4) Fit all notes within the time signature established. Now.. keeping all of that in mind.. write the impossible bass solo

The tempo is set at a blazing 200 BPM, making it incredibly difficult to keep up with. The time signature is in 4/4, which is standard, but with the use of complex rhythms and note groupings, it makes it challenging to follow. The key of F# Phrygian Dominant is one of the most technically demanding keys"

Your playing is not just next level, it is nextest level. :-) As for me - I still think it's really impossible to be played by any other person.

I have this invisible band in my head, when I listen to music, and they are all exceptionally proficient at their instruments, and the Bass player plays the way Charles actually does. It gets almost supernatural. It goes to show, that whatever seems impossible, may actually be not.

Holy Shit!!!!! I have never seen a Bass Player do what you do. You must be from another planet or something - I have been watching you channel for about a year now and you never seize to amaze me. Yup I am one of those people that feels like throwing my basses away every time I watch one of your videos, but like a fool I still keep trying. You are complete BASS GOD with all the techniques across the board you are a force to be reckoned with. I applaud you Charles.
