What about all the animals killed by crop farming? All the insects? All the land that wildlife used to live in that sprayed to death by pesticides and pollutes the ground, rivers and streams? The birds that get killed too and the fish. Crop farming kills loads more living creatures than the meat industry does. And animals make ground fertile and good for crops. Without grazing animals, more chemicals are used in the soil to grow stuff. Vegans live in la la land about how they think their diet does not harm animals, it actually harms more animals and it harms the environment. All the toxic supplements sent from all over the world. None of it is natural. All shipped from everywhere. Fruits and veg imported from across the world too. Veganism is the most unnatural diet out there.
@DarenC
@DarenC 2 жыл бұрын
@@rl7012 Most crops in many areas are fed to animals. In the US for example, 67% of soy is used for animal feed. Growing crops to feed to animals so we can eat them is terribly inefficient, but in terms of resources and land usage. 77% of agricultural land is used for animal farming, but provides 18% of global calorie supply. By reducing our animal consumption, we'd actually cause fewer incidental deaths, which is the point of veganism.

A strange thing is, my youngest child at age 8 decided she didn't want to eat meat anymore. She was the youngest of 4 children and loved her menagerie of pets. OK said I and off to the bookstore to purchase a vegetarian encyclopedia and my first vegetarian cook book. Lots of knowledge needed here on my behalf! No way was I cooking for 6 and preparing different meals for each. I had always cooked from scratch anyway so it was just a case of understanding the vital nutrition within the meals. I was in my 30's now in my 70's med free. Fit and healthy and active. Do I save money on not eating meat and now dairy NO I just spend it on nuts and seeds instead. I also don't care enough to argue with people regarding this way of eating. Do what you like and so will I. Great blog by the way and yes I laughed out loud!!!!

I started a Whole Foods vegan diet 1 year ago. Being a vegan also means watching why type of vegan food that’s consumed because there’s a huge difference. When eating whole plants versus processed vegan foods, one will absolutely feel better, physically, mentally and have better mental clarity. Brain fog, arthritis and other ailments will disappear. It did for me and my husband. He has congestive heart failure and almost died from the disease. A change in his diet changed a lot for us. My arthritis disappeared, his acid reflux disappeared, his heart condition is almost normal. There’s a list of things. So just know being vegan depends on the type of vegan food that digested. Not all vegan diets are the same.

When I first tried out being veggie back in the early 90's before taking the plunge, wasn't sure if I'd last the 2 weeks I had set for myself. Without being severely malnourished or maybe dead lol. Was amazed absolutely nothing happened not eating meat. No loss of weight, and felt really good, and no different than before. 30yrs later (vegan for the last 28)had no issues. Work a physical job and am a cyclist. But yeah no one went vege/ vegan back in the day for health reasons! Although if my bloodwork is anything to go by seems a pretty health diet. When I rang up for my 45+ results the nurse said they were the best she'd seen in yrs, and asked me what my secret was lol.

As another vegan and fitness nut, I completely get where you're coming from! Although I think I approach it from entirely the opposite direction - I mean, I'm starting a job in a few weeks working as a campaigner for a leading animal rights charity hahaha. You can't get much more different than that I don't mandate people as to what they should eat, by any means. I think a certain nonchalant attitude like you have is very helpful, and I try to be as approachable and relatable as possible on the subject to nonvegans. But, to be very frank, I *do* care what others choose when their choices have victims - I think the victims would want us to care. I think your video is fantastic and your approach to it is undoubtedly commendable. Just very different to my own! Diversity of thought is never bad, though. Thanks for the vid!

@Tyelar Rhead Exactly, it would be like saying "it was the Nazis choice to gas a load of jews, they can do whatever they want" (just like omnivores pay companies to gas pigs and chickens to death now). Or "it was slave owners choice to own a slave" well actually no it's not their own choice if they are harming other humans. These are now looked back on with disgust as atrocities and anybody that was involved with these acts feels shameful. We just need to now extend this thinking to also cover ALL animals and not just dogs and cats 🤦‍♂ and I feel the human race will also look back on this era with disgust too. It would have been good if Mark would have cut to some footage of these things he spoke about like the baby chicks in blenders etc because 90% of omnivores have absolutely no idea this goes on so instantly dismiss it as an extreme or exaggerated view. If people listened and researched the truth 90% would turn vegan overnight I'm certain of it.
@LifeOptimise
@LifeOptimise Жыл бұрын
Completely agree, just like we don't allow psychopaths to kill and eat humans just because they want to, people shouldn't be allowed to stuff millions of birds into a big warehouse and then gas them all to death at 6 weeks old just because they want to, or as Mark referenced keep birds rammed in small cages just to profit from eggs they lay and blend up any chicks they can't profit from etc. We don't have a 'choice' to do whatever we want in life, there are some boundaries that we have placed on what we can and can't do to other humans and dogs and cats that we now need to extend to all animals and wildlife.

Went fully plant based 5 years ago and now wish I had done so a lot sooner. Never going back. I used to eat meat and dairy and thought I was eating a healthy diet. I did drink soy milk, but got scared of soy so I quit. I then started using whey protein powder to try to gain muscle. I developed a lump in my chest. Breast cancer in men is rare, but possible. I went to my doctor, and he put me through a series of tests for cancer. I researched what I could eat to help my chances. The documentary "Forks Over Knives" convinced me. I dumped the whey and switched to a mostly Whole Food Plant Based vegan diet. By the time I was supposed to have a biopsy, they weren't able to get a sample, because my lump had shrunk so much. I felt so much more energy on my new diet, so I kept it. I then learned the facts about why others have gone fully vegan. I went 100% around the age of 60. I am now in my mid 60's, and never felt better. I get glowing reports from my doctor and need no prescriptions. Both my siblings have heart disease. One needed a heart valve transplant and also has type 2 diabetes. The other had surgery for cancer..

I'm also a mucular athelete, vegan for 8 years with family of 4, didn't see any change in my performance or health, although my blood pressure and cholesterol are much lower. I also don't get sleepy after big meals, again could be a low fat / low transformed food thing. I found the switch much easier than I thought and at restaurants that don't have anything vegan, I always end up being offered a chef special amazing creation. It's also much cheaper to eat. I'm from a family of hunters and no particular feelings towards animals, but I firmly beleive it's the logical thing to do for the ethical, environmental, efficiency, easier health and pandemic minimising reasons. I think you'd convert a lot of people through awareness to the fact that you can be that fit, musclular and highly performant while being vegan. I wouldn't have known it was possible.

Really glad it’s working for you, keep being awesome I switched to using Huel for my lunch (what can I say it’s easy to make and helps me keep an idea of how many calories I eat) so considering my lunch tended to involve BLT’s my meat consumption has definitely dropped massively and I definitely feel better for it. Still got a long way to go but you are inspiring for me a 40 year old overweight guy

This is spot on and so concise. I stopped eating meat and dairy 5 years ago now and often get questions about it when people find out. This video really closely matches my experience - nothing spectacular, surprisingly easy to do, so why not continue. Doesn't bother me what other people do, but honestly I think that if more people were to try it and realise how small that shift really is then they might be inclined to keep it up/ reduce meat consumption.

I've spent most of my life in some sort of eating war. I was vegetarian from 14 to 40 years old. With 9 years of that as Vegan (when Vegan was similar to being from another planet) I've also experienced some very dysfunctional eating behaviour over the years. I really appreciate how you frame and present your approach to eating. It takes the heat out of the subject whilst still being interesting and informative Thanks

Excellent video, I've been eating vegan for 5 years now, and at 62 I feel great. Like you @Mark Lewis, animal welfare is key; it took me until I was 57 to realise there is something very wrong about enjoying eating a cow, and thinking eating a dog was all wrong.
@asplmn
@asplmn Жыл бұрын
Why would you think it's wrong? It's perfectly natural to think that way. We've evolved alongside canines over thousands of years as HUNTING companions to find and take down food. This has carried over into modern society as dogs being pets. We've literally grown to love cats and dogs because they've shared a symbiotic relationship with us (hunting and pest control). Conversely, we farmed ruminant animals for their nutritional profiles, taste, and partially for dairy (winter can be pretty damn unforgiving for survival.) Survival and companionship. Of course many farmers become attached to their livestock over the years, but they're well acquainted with the circle of life, and understand all living things come to an end in order to make way for the next generation. Not to mention, their livelihood depends on it. Not picking on you -- eat as you please, at least we still have that freedom left! 😜 Just sharing as you may find it interesting. Stay well!

@@asplmn"circle of life" and "all things come to an end to make room for the newer generation" as justification for industrial animal production cycles is really hypocritical. Chicken live around 10 years naturally: broilers are killed 6 weeks old and those six weeks they live in a hell.
@asplmn
@asplmn 9 ай бұрын
@@innocentiuslacrim2290 It seems you've misunderstood me. I do not support industrial animal production. I do not purchase any animal products which are not proven to be humane, organic, and regenerative. I never go to fast food restaurants, buy costco meat, or even GMO products as that's not a natural diet for an animal. Instead, I spend the extra cash to support farmers who actually care and foster great lives for their livestock. This results in a net positive, as I'm also not supporting monocrops which are literally r*ping our earth's soil, removing native flora, and poisoning any living creature in a several mile radius.

Eating plant based and being vegan forced me to take a deeper look into what I get from each food type, how much I need on a daily basis etc. Don't get me wrong, I still eat some junk food and processed crap, but now it's plant based processed crap...lol. Was a vegatarian for about 3-4 yrs (isch, ate meat when at parties where it was served anyway) and I did recover faster for training, but I was also monitoring my diet in general a lot. Now I am more relaxed about it. If veganism works for someone, sure, fine, if not, also fine. I am hoping for labgrown meat longterm anyways to solve the climate thing without screwing over 80% of all recipes etc.

Don't know why this got recommended to me but I'm glad it did. This is one of the most nuanced and unprepossessing breakdowns of a diet I've ever seen. I had a plant-based year as well and it sounds like my experience was similar to yours -- nothing really changed, besides a small dip in my cholesterol, and it was easy to maintain. Diet is a tricky thing for me because I really sympathize with the ethical points of veganism, but my quality of life is so much better when I'm lower carb. It's done wonders for me mentally; and I understand vegan keto is a thing, but barely and it's so restrictive. I've really strived to find a balance, which is largely plant-based but still includes some fish, lean meat, and eggs a few times a week. I'm lucky to live in a rural area where I can buy this all direct from local farmers where I know the animals have decent lives. But ultimately I agree with you, it is a cause for hypocrisy at times.
