John is a complete joke at the end of the story as he only willing to stay with his wife because he doesn't want to lose his fortunes which sound like a poor excuse for a human being like him. I'm glad his wife didn't take him back because John is a ungreatful and selfish man who never really love or appraciate her at all especially that he had been cheating on her with a younger woman behind her back.

Hmph, John was a real piece of work. He didn’t truly love Rita or wanted to be her father; he just wanted her out of the way so he could be with her mother! What an ironic, sad twist. Rita is much better off with her new mom, who will no doubt take very good care of her and love her unconditionally. 😊

I used to resent my mom for having me at 40 because, as I get older, I’m losing old family friends. They are dropping like flies, and it’s breaking my heart. In the last year or so, they went to a funeral every single weekend. It was awful 😢
