This is just a note on why this episode resonates with me. My life was saved when I was knocked over by the rushing water trying to wade to an island in the American River at the Coloma Gold Discovery site. A river raft guide had drowned the week before at that exact spot. There is a ledge of bedrock that forms a small waterfall and at high water flow, you get trapped on the downriver side of that now underwater traversing hole. My life was saved by a homeless man, so that is why so many stories resonate with me on these Amomama channels. He lives on his bicycle and he needed a bicycle spoke and he was 200 miles to the east of me in the Nevada desert. I owe him my life and there is next to nothing that I would not do for him. So, I went to downtown Davis, the bicycle center of the college world to buy a bicycle spoke. I went to five bicycle shops before I found on that would sell me a spoke. They all wanted to sell me a wheel or wanted me to bring in the wheel so they could install it -- cost 50 to 130 dollars. I could go on-line and buy a set of 16 for 8 dollars. Finally, I found a shop and the wanted 8 dollars for the spoke. I told him that I knew the price of the spokes and if he threw in two more, I would pay the exorbitant price. My friend was in the Nevada desert getting short of water, so time was an important factor. What is poetic justice is that all these bicycle shops went out of business or changed owners because of COVID (no student -- no business), except the bicycle shop that sold me the spokes. My friend was an excellent cook. He found out early in life that if you are a good cook, you can get a job easily at any cafe or restaurant if you need cash/money. So, we drove 200 miles to deliver the spokes to nowhere in the Nevada desert and I took all the ingredients for a stew dinner, including 2.5 gallons of water. The friend that went along to help with the driving said that was the best stew he had ever eaten in all his life. Those tapas mention by Filip sounded scrumtous and made my stomach growl...

Just another note, I hope to honor the man that saved the life of the homeless man that saved my life on July 18, 2024 by posting here about him. And, he died trying to save a fellow soldier's life on the eastern battlefield of Ukraine on that day. My homeless savior had gone into a roadside store in southern Arizona. He asked if there was somewhere he could fill up his water bottles. The clerk wanted to sell him bottles of water at $2.50 a bottle. He told her, you must have a water faucet here and so she told him out back behind the store there is a faucet. He found the faucet and filled all his water bottles. The water had toxic levels of arsenic in it. There was a sign that stated this but someone had knocked the sign down. My friend had double vision and other symptoms but was able to call the friend that was an ex-army medic. He, the ex-medic, put all the pieces together and he even knew of the water faucet, which he went to put up the sign that was fallen down. The ex-medic stayed with my homeless friend for about 2 weeks, replenishing him with good water and flushing the arsenic out of his system. He save my friend/savior's life. And he, the former medic, was also a homeless vagabond traveling and experiencing the great outdoors of life. You do not know the stories of the homeless, unless you take the time to find out.

@@yamagata008 Thanks for sharing these stories with us. Yeah, you're absolutely spot-on, and it goes beyond just the homeless; it applies to everyone, really. It's about not judging someone based on appearances, not making a whole assessment of someone based on just one aspect of their life. People are born and raised in different places, under different circumstances. Some have to struggle and fight all their lives due to those circumstances, while others just have it easier. People can have different values and different ideas of what's "right," but in a world that's constantly changing, it's important not to forget to be human.
