I'm so bloody fussy I'm considering doing it properly but I also know that it's solid enough to be OK for a few years. It might be worth drilling out when the pipes have really had it but these are in great condition. Thanks for today.

This was my first bike (Bandit 400), in red, and still have it (but needs carb work and new tires), and 2nd bike I just added is a SV650. Ironic that you have the same in this video. If I find another Bandit 400 or a CB1 I will likely be trying to acquire it, just because they are great and getting rare. Another old bike I liked was the Interceptor 500 (as opposed to bigger 750 everyone seems to know about). Modern bikes with slipper clutch, EFI, and ABS are great but these older bikes are still good performers.

I absolutely agree, you can't beat the older carb model bikes with less electrics. Also that's a brilliant selection of bikes at the time. The 400 bandit to 650 sv is a great jump. The torque on the sv would have felt amazing. Cheers W S

I went through more than a few 750's and 600's before buying two Suzuki Bandits. Even though I now have a GSXS1000, the Bandit 400 to this day remains my favorite bike I've owned. The only thing I didn't like was the uncomfortable seat.
@motorcyclerescuer
@motorcyclerescuer Жыл бұрын
I agree although the other issue is lack of available parts. It's the only bandit to use a completely different engine. Suzuki just didn't make enough spares for them. It's still possible to get some parts but it's getting harder.

@@motorcyclerescuer Those 400's sort of froze my motorcycle preferences. A screaming 400 inline 4, with a stacked powerband that only worked above 8000 rpm, and unbelievable cornering clearance (I did scrape the headers on them, though). Don't get me wrong, I love traction control but maybe I love the vicious little bandits a bit more. I rode them more than a few times on the track and they were wicked fast bikes. In Asia's 250/400 class they shockingly won races over GSXR400's, NSR250's, and Honda V4's. They were the first Suzukis to be water cooled and so they were just really advanced engines compared to the rest of the 400's at the time. The untuned Bandits were making 60 hp and the tuned ones were really close to 600 cc inline fours.

Bandits are such nice looking bikes, and if you get a clean one they have pretty decent power for 400cc, im either gonna get a bandit which is one of my all time favourites or ill go with the 2013 ninja 300. Ninja would be easier to get here in ireland but id rather get a clean low miles bandit for about 2k euros no work needed i dont have time to repair a bike.

My mate is actually selling this one on the video, it's pretty mint and he wants £850. I love bandits but lots of people don't like them. They don't hold their values much unless it's a 1200cc. Thanks for watching.

I try to do that as much as I can but it normally comes out bit by bit within my videos. For example the kawasaki zl600 has had carbs built many times and balanced and the spark plugs cleaned and after weeks of trying I've realised one of the coils isn't work. But I guess I could do a write up or something at the end of my videos to show what's been done.

It was more a guide on what to look for when buying bikes etc, I saw you mentioned in one video about clean forks etc, I guess there's loads to look for that's obvious like scuffing and stuff but how easy are bent forks etc to spot or how to check a chain and sprocket is decent, I don't have a clue lol
@motorcyclerescuer
@motorcyclerescuer 4 жыл бұрын
@@stuartmcintosh9932 oh I see, OK I'll do one soon mate as that's a great idea. Roughly though it's the more expensive stuff to look out for. Tyres are first on my list, then fork sills, then chain and sprocket. Tyres are expensive and then you pay more to get them put on so tyres are the biggest spend.

You can't jb weld an exhaust especially near the header, jb weld can manage 260celcius because jb weld is mostly plastic resin with metal dust in it, headers on a SV typically have over 600celcius and the resin in jb weld burns at 320 celcius , would have been better to just weld a bit of mild steel rod over the gap. The SVS that you have does not have a reinforced yoke so drilling it and fitting risers is not great and they tend to crack. The naked sv650 has a reinforced yoke as standard, Also the instruments for the naked and fared SV are different the fared one is not as well protected from the elements because it lives in the faring but it is cheap about £30 while the naked instruments are really expensive and often sell on ebay between £100-250 depending on condition, so they would fail quickly if they are exposed to rain as the traces will rust.
@motorcyclerescuer
@motorcyclerescuer 4 жыл бұрын
That's alot of info lol. There wasn't really a gap in the headers anyway it was more me being paranoid, also my friend has the bike and I can throw some weld on if needed if it ever failed. I ran the bike for about 3 weeks with no issues at all. I didn't put risers on in the end I kept it as it was but that's good to know about the top yoke. I like using risers and want to use them more so I'll have to look into what top yokes work and what don't. Thanks for the information and thanks for watching.
@billjackson3642
@billjackson3642 4 жыл бұрын
@@motorcyclerescuer I forgot to mention that if you convert to risers the brake and throttle cables are shorter on the sv650s and typically wont reach depending on which bars and how much rise etc so you would have to replace them with longer ones which means extra cost. I have seen aftermarket clip ons that have risers so that might be an option but i don't know how much rise you can add and still use the stock cables.

Honestly for a bike of this age and value it wouldn't be worth putting a new set in. It's still held in place and I don't believe it will come of anytime soon however I am still considering changing them. Its not going to be easy though, I think it would be drilling out the old bolts. Thanks for watching

Thinking, sv650 more power, top end sped, than a Bandit 400,but acceleration??, would think 400 Bandit, with Bandit WIZARDRY, its acceleration would be quiet joyous!!!!. Professor Bandit 650 B.T.E.out., that's... Bandi Torque Enjoyment only, nothing technical.

The bandit definitely isn't as fast as the sv650 but it's not really about fast. It's more about comfortable with plenty power in my eyes. They are great bikes but you get alot more power from a bandit 600.

@@motorcyclerescuer Not about fast, the acceleration of my 650 Bandit, is the biking prize, for passing test. Sv650, faster than a 650 Bandit,????, not in acceleration. Perfect Storm, 3RD or 4th gear, about half way to red-line, industrial catapult got it going., felt like back wheel was in a track, all at back wheel. In 84 my GPZ750turbo was, more of a pull your arms off, as it tried to slide you off seat, when the turbo kicked in.
