I Bought a Best Buy Refurbished PS4 Pro - Here's What I Found. I paid $349 for a refurbished PS4 Pro from Best Buy. PS4 Pros are selling for $399 so buying a refurbished for $50 less is a pretty decent deal - as long as it really is refurbished. In this video I take this console apart to see what "refurbished" means to Best Buy.

About This Video: About a month ago I bought a refurbished PS4 from GameStop to find out what they were like. The results were unfortunately pretty disappointing. In this video I'm checking out a similar refurbished console from Best Buy and thankfully the results are much better this time. I paid $349 for a Best Buy refurbished console that apparently was used but looked practically new! Nice job, Best Buy!

You should have connected the hard drive to a PC and have checked the number of hours of use for instance. It's a good way to tell the overall use of the console ;)

I work at Best buy as a customer service representative and I can personally say that a lot of the time the refurbished ones will be like new. We have such a strict return policy of 15 days and when consoles get returned 9 times out of 10 they get sent out to the service center. Game stops refurbished program is mostly made up of trade ins as they are more known for accepting consoles as trade ins.

I worked in Edison NJ around 2003 fixing TVs for Best buy, most TVs were damaged by shipping but we didn't really touch game systems.

@@nathanmead140 most consumer grade TVs don't allow you to calibrate the colour beyond a few basic options so it's unlikely you'd get a good result with anything other than an original panel.

I work for Best Buy and I can confirm a lot of the ones that are Refurbished are ones that were returned and then sent back to the manufacturer who then test them out, fix them, repackage them and then send them to our warehouse were we distribute them. I can't tell you how many people return consoles after a week or so of use because they are vacation and its raining and want to "rent" a TV or console. I know its that way cause I live in a resort area, but it happens way too often just at my store and I am sure there are other stores that do the same thing around them.

@@Deathslayer296 That is brand new and comes with the manufacturer's warranty. It's worth 12%. When buying used goods, I expect them to be at least 25-30% off unless it's something that has become rare over time. Also, in the case of reseller like Best Buy or Gamestop, at least when buying new, you're giving your money to the one that made the product. If you bought that used product directly from the previous owner, you would probably had to pay 50-60% of it's original value instead of 88%.

The best way to determine how used a controller is to look at underneath the left stick to see if there is a line cut into the plastic from the outer ring of the controller

I have a hard time believing that the reason it looks that good is because it's a factory refurbished unit. I believe it's more if a lightly used good luck pick scenario.

Also I always recommend buying BRAND NEW hardware in regards to gaming consoles. That way you know for sure it won’t be banned from Online, it was never abused or neglected / tampered with, as well as comes with a one (1) year manufacture warranty! Can’t say the same for refurbs or used. 🤭

A lot of the times, the bigger companies (Best Buy, Amazon) get returns from people that didn't want the console and they just resell the opened item as refurbished. Definitely good for people looking for a used console.

Buddy works in the bestbuy warehouse and said that they have less returns on refurbished than they do for regular sales. Apparently every refurbished system is tested, but obviously new ones aren't.

usually in "FACTORY REFURBISHED" products they will take the motherboard out of the incoming unit and clean up any electrical issues (like that beeper being replaced) then place it in a NEW shell. that include the fan, plastic outsides, heatsink, metal shields. etc.. and if I remember correctly the accessories and cables should be new. so the controller is most likely a new unit. only thing from the old ps4 pro is probably the motherboard.

my guess is they put it new cases on the game pad and console and give you new cables since thats cheap and then replace any thing thats single unit like the HDD and optical drive then put that old pcb's again in new cases

Although if I paid that much I would’ve just paid a tiny extra for brand new. But you can always use the saved cash for games. Not to mention saving 50 is a good bit of money 🤔. But as I said before, Best Buy is the absolute best place to get awesome products that are 100% covered!

I was a sales manager at Best Buy. Best Buy only has repair agents for PC's. All gaming consoles return to manufacturers. The same is for Apple products. Companies like Sony/Microsoft don't repair the same way you do. As an example for the Xbox they have a diagnostics tool. Depending on what it tells them, they just replace a whole motherboard power supply, etc etc. They don't actually try to fix anything. They just replace. Go to Best Buy, buy a PS4, open it up and rip something off of the Motherboard. Mark it somewhere that only you know, and take it in for repair. When you get it back, you will see a whole new motherboard. Honestly, they get parts made so cheap, they lose more on labor than they do parts. So it is just easier to swap everything out.

Possibly returned effectively unused because it wouldn't make the startup/system sounds. Piezo part gets factory-replaced and repaired unit sold as refurbished but is still effectively new except the Piezo (which is technically NEWER!!)

i think this bestbuy ps4 are the exact same that sony sells, it does have the factory refusbished sticker, sony also sells refurbished, most of them are factory defective or didnt meet the initial quality control, they just fix whats broken or checked what didnt passed quality test and sells them like refurbished, so maybe many didnt even let the factory before been refurbished

I once bought a gamestup refurbished Xbox 360. Worked fine except it was originally meant for the french market and A had a really odd power supply connector because they basically had to make a custom one. and the Wifi never worked but Ethernet is a thing

Best buy will considered certain items that are opened box and used once as refurbished if returned as some items will require it to have cords need to be fully resealed in plastic bags and since they deal in bulk quantity... its easier and cheaper just to ship things in bulk for repairs than do things locally like many other stores will do.

I've bought many refurbished systems from gamestop. Only 1 had really nasty dust and grime inside it (ps3).

Love the videos but you should run them for a hour and a half to two hours and see if it over heats. You should do a time lapse after running all used / refurbished from Bestbuy and GameStop. I’ve bought a few and they all overheated after 2 hour’s.....

Bought a refurbed OG Xbox one from Best Buy when the One S took off and I owned it up until 2 months ago when I upgraded to the One X. All cables and headset came in brand new packaging including controller. Even came in an official Box that had a small sticker that said refurbed. All the gloss was spotless. Best refurb and deal I ever got. Paid 189.99 at that time so what 3 years ago?

I once bought a refurbished Speaker directly from JBL and it seemed like brand new too. The only difference to a brand new one is that they taped over the original SKU and EAN Numbers, probably because they flashed the blutooth module? Idk, but it was less than half the original price and basically got a brand new speaker. From what I can tell Refurbished =/= Refurbished. What GameStop is doing is they send out the devices to independend refurbishment centers, fixing these as cheap as possible, whereas BestBuy does a Factory Refurbishment, meaning they send it off to the manifacturer (in this case Sony) and they fix it till it's brand new. This can be cheaper as the manifacturer usually has some spare parts laying around anyways. There are some even saying Factory refurbishment is like buying a brand new product, just with the difference that it was tested thouroghly, to make sure it's working 100%. Since Chassies get only replaced in Factory refurbishment, when they get really scratched up or break, the outsides might not look like brand new, but that is to be expected...

I bought a PS4 Pro brand new from B&H. $350. After 1 year and 1 month. No video signal going to tv. Turns on, then goes to white light. I watched your video on issues with HDMI Output Port. I’m sending it in to them. But, obviously will have to pay for any fix because it’s out of warranty. It’s a damn shame just 1 month after the 1 year warranty. I bought a PS3 close to 9 years ago that still works like a champ.

They reshell the controllers and replace all buttons and controls.

This is Sony refurbish PS4. Those are mostly new units, unboxed by some customer and returned.

Best Buy is about the only place I get my electronics from! Any issue, they deal with it! No having to deal with any bull crap like you do from Walmart and those types of stores! Always keep up with your insurance on items and you’re always covered!

Hey Steve, before you've asked to hear our video requests? What about measuring the chip temperature inside PS4 Pro while you have a house fan pointed at the consoles front? Its how ive been using mine since I uograded to 500m limited edition. The fan obviously improves air flow and instantly removes all warm air preventing build up right? Mine barely feels warm to the touch even after hours of play but I have mine stood vertically with the vertical stand (typically sold separately but included in 500m LE) Im curious if its just the plastic shell thats cooled down or does it help with me internal cooling as well like I believe it does. Worth finding out?

Could this not just be an open box return but best buy doesn't want to sell open box units ? I bought a Refurb PS4 Pro from EB Games in Canada and it was second gen model not even two months after it's November release it was mint as well.

@@Tronicsfix yup good on you for ordering another one from GameStop, I think that original one was ridiculous can't defend that. Maybe buying in stores is probably best route for any thing refurbished if you have the chance so you can at least check the unit before you buy.

Stuff like this isn't common where i live. Do they even give full warranty with this? If not i would never even think about buying products like this.
