It's exactly what I think every time I see one of these. It's like... how many videos do you do on this before your just plain shilling the views? We know DKOldies sucks. We know they grossly overcharge. Yet we (not ME exactly... but a lot of youtubers and wanna be tubers) keep buying this crap to KEEP making these videos. At first it was about getting the knowledge out there so that folks know these guys are full of it. At a point though, it's exactly what your talking about. "This week on what the F$*K did DKOldies send us!"

Using DKOldies for views, incorporating their huge social following into yours. 90% of large stores that claim to sell refurbished consoles, are actually selling consoles that aren't properly refurbished. GameStop, DKOldies, eBay you name it. It's nothing new. Simply don't buy retro stuff from these big stores. These KZfaq guys just keep making these vidoes for ratings. They're not helping or exposing anything.

@@briangriffin391 eBay isn't necessarily a store but a vendor for other people's stores and no not everyone is aware of these shops. I for one would like to know if a particular shop is a scam or not. You might not care or purchase "retro" or older consoles but other people don't want to waste money in broken equipment or scratched games.

Yeah, he really needs to stop. We know how they do things, so this is pointless. He needs to move on and check out other retro stores, but not Lukie Games or Gamestop because they've been done multiple times now too. There are like at least 5 more of them but nobody wants to check any of those out for some reason.

He reviews tech and dk oldies sells tech. They are a big topic right now and rich has already said that aslong as dk oldies is trying to do damage control he will continue to expose them. He’s sticking to his word and one console purchase isn’t going to keep a company afloat and the damage to their image will lose them revenue

Our local used game store doesn't promise refurbished, but whenever we have any issues they always help us! We don't have any issues but once with an NES game being a bit dirty, but they cleaned it no problem. It's sad that DK Oldies can't hold up to their promises.

There's no one place really. I bought an N64 from Mercari back in December, it came with 5 wrestling games, 2 OEM controllers (1 was in great condition the other is fine but the stick is kinda loose) and the power supply and AV cable for $155. It arrived in "too good to be true" condition as it looked like it was barely ever used...so I opened it up, and it was completely dust free...I wasn't expecting it to be THAT nice. The games that came with it definitely had 20+ years of wear on them, but the pins were spotless. Bought a black Wii off of eBay the other day for $45, came with 3 Wiimotes, 5 games, a Nunchuck, a charging dock, the stand, the cables and even the instruction manuals...the disc drive needs some work (it keeps making the eject sound for a bit after you take a disc out), but otherwise it was in great shape, even still had the flaps that cover the Gamecube ports. Point is...random people on the internet are doing better work than these online retailers are for FARRRR cheaper prices. Just gotta look around a little.

The things on the ends of that beefy HDMI cable are black ferrite cores. They reduce electrical noise on the line. It's for when you hear things like buzzing, white noise, etc. because your system has poor shielding. HDMI typically doesn't have those problems though so they're more for like a 3.5mm audio cable which is highly susceptible to noise, USB cables & your actual power cords.

Good to see ya doing videos again. One thing I have always thought in these cases where the console seems clean it could also just be how it was maintained by the original owners. I know I personally always tore down systems when I would sell them or hand them down to other family and friends. The slight pass given for the look of someone making good on their promise or guarantee could be them hedging their bets that its been maintained in some way. Just my 1½ cents being thrown out there.

I like the Japanese adapters and their hori cables too, those are sick. If their 2 player packs come with oem controllers that pretty much work, then good for them that's pretty reasonable in comparison to their old prices. That's a somewhat consumer friendly price point. They aren't hooking them up w friend or market prices, but retail--that's not bad, other people out there bop their customers harder than that.

I bought a perfectly decent clear green N64 from my local charity shop, with 12 games, for £2. Admittedly, they had no idea what it was so they just basically got rid of it, but £2 isn't bad. I sold it a year later for £5 because I never used it. Probably should have asked for more money.

I haven't seen it brought up yet, but the amount you paid vs the first one you showed is that you had the "Substitute 2 Original Controllers" and the "Add an AV to HDMI Pak" that's why it's more expensive. so before the sale it was $189 + $60 + $25 = ~$280. Not Defending DK Oldies because that's still an outrageous price just thought I might correct you on that.

The only Amazon "refurbished" or "renewed" consoles that are good are the consoles that are relatively young (less than 10 years old or so). Essentially, those consoles probably weren't "refurbished", but were used and returned in good condition, so they are still playable. For example, I bought a "renewed" (granted that is different fron refurbished) sega genesis mini 1 a few weeks ago from Amazon, and it plays extremely well because it's only 4 years old or so.

My wife got my N64 from Amazon about a year ago as a surprise gift. I'm not sure what 3rd party refurbished it, but both the console and original controller was clean at least exterior wise. I never opened them though. No issues... yet 🤞

I can't speak for refurbished consoles on Amazon, but I have purchased five refurbished PCs and two refurbished cell phones from Amazon, and never had a problem with any of them. I have opened each PC upon arrival and gone through them with a fine-tooth comb. I could find nothing to complain about in ANY of them. All screws tight, all cards, cables, and RAM fully-seated, no dust, exactly the out-of-box experience one should expect. The PC I'm using now was advertised as "heavily scratched," but in reality it had what I would call "minor scuffing." As always, thoroughly review SELLER feedback, and try to "read between the lines" to see which critical reviews are due to Operator Error or Unreasonable Expectations. If you have a great experience, be sure to leave positive feedback for the seller, and you'll be helping people like you in the future find those sweet deals.

I still think the discussion on DKOldies should continue. If they're improving that means keep the pressure on them or else they'll grow complacent again and get lazy. I do think Lukie Games should be looked at next, not as bad as DKOldies but a little questionable and I think letting these places know that the people want what they pay for and what's promised to them get met. These retro games and hardware are likely on their last legs so I think they should be treated fairly and taken care of to prolong their lives as long as possible. Game preservation is important, and I wish the industry felt the same way.

You *can* use a Japanese power supply, but the difference in voltage will put extra stress on the voltage regulator, causing it to die quicker.

@@KootenaiKing Japanese and American systems are almost identical, stickers aside the only difference is two taps in the cart slot. Remove them and you got a console that runs both US and JP games. Probably got a bunch of those with modded slots traded in and the power supply landed in a box with American ones.

Out of all the videos I've seen - I think you got the cleanest console! Way to somewhat hold them accountable and its been fun to watch! I would still never pay that LOL but atleast "some" attempt was made to "refurbish".. Still criminal imo. Companies need a guideline for what they can deem "refurbished".. not dirty with aftermarket replaced parts.. They are definitely trying to make a better effort after being exposed. Still unacceptable to call that clean or "refurbished" and definitely not worth a premium price (nice controller 1 slot). Thanks for the laughs!

The issue with the port isn't that it is cracked, but moreso that it is on one you purchased not listed as cosmetically flawed. Had it been listed as cosmetically flawed it would be fine since it worked. Still would have suggested to see if they changed the thermal paste on it (doubt they did).

Renting is better then paying scalpers over a thousand dollars for just one game I bought so many games from the Wii U before it closed especially the ones the scalpers are selling for a lot of money that aren’t worth what their asking for the digital ones I own are more rare then the physical copies you can tell that to the scalpers

There is a battery mod for the rumble paks so you don't need batteries anymore. You just flip a resistor or whatever it is inside the pak and it will run off the console. Super easy if anyone has the most basic of soldering skills. Can only run 2 at a time tho.

The consoles that are passively cooled and don’t have fans are easier to pull off as refurbished without opening them because there is no fans pulling in air and dust so they stay much cleaner than systems such as the ps2 and newer

I have not been selling retro games for over 10 years, but when I sold a twin fami as refurbished, I dishwasher the main board, hand rebend the connector, give it a new sewing machine belt AND recapped the power supply and the main board. I sold red ones for $199 and black ones for 229. Oh, I would also put nes female controller ports for another $20. Or I would change the pads for $10. Getting an "A" disk board was another $30 but let you load games from your PC. I used to buy large lots of fami disk drives to salvage A boards.
