We knew we wanted to upgrade from our previous RV to something that would suit us better. In this video I talk about our new (to us) 2001 Prevost XL2-45, why we chose it, and show you the interior and bay setup.

Nice looking coach and congratulations on the upgrade. When you were taking about the slide you said they were powered by air instead of hydraulics. The Prevost installed slides are powered (moved) by a very large electric motor. Air is used to inflate the slide seal and to extend/retract the slide pins. The slide pins only lock when the slide is retracted, not when extended. I can tell you are going to love this coach.

Best of luck to you and the family. There's nothing like a Prevost!

You have a great bus. It will give you many years of travels. We purchased an 06 M450 Lxi Wanderlodge in 2019 Currently doing some upgrades. You are correct about more miles in a day. At 63 I did 650 so far in a day. Good luck. Look forward to your future travels.

Congratulations on your new purchase, I have an 04 Prevost ex Hemphill Bros coach w/ almost the same floorplan. I’ve had mine since 2012, the Series 60 is rock solid . It does get expensive for maintenance, you just need to stay on top of items…however it is night and day versus a regular rv in terms of comfort. Congratulations again and good luck, nice shop by the way

Congrats on the upgrade. You are correct about being able to put more miles in a day on a commercial bus as compared to other RV's. We have an MCI bus that was done my Bruce coach up here in Canada, & prefer to drive it than my pick up truck which we flat tow behind the bus. I have enjoyed your previous videos with the upgrades you did to the other RV. Can't wait to see what you do with this one. Cheers!

Thanks for the great video - and I love your Prevost choice…. The interior is much simpler as you mentioned - and I like that too!! There are probably less problems with simplicity. Luckily you can do most repairs yourself- as I would have to learn also….or I could never afford to own a Prevost. I’m always looking for a used Prevost… and the Series 60 engine is a definite huge plus!! Save travels - and thanks again!!!

Thanks! There are many more videos coming. I didn’t include the price intentionally - there’s a lot of variation in what a Prevost is going to cost. However several people have asked this so I may do a video in the future discussing what the variables are. Compared to a standard purpose built RV you’ll be spending more/going older to trade up to a Prevost, but you get more for it. It’s absolutely an enormous upgrade for us. Most of my upcoming videos are discussing the work I did/am doing on it and will include ongoing repairs and upgrades.

So let me tell you speaking from experience and having done my front air bags on my 06 H3-45 when you think the air fitting is tight on the top of the air bags go at least one if not two more turns if you don’t want your coach leaking down every night. I could not believe how tight I had to get them anyway just a little advice from a fellow Prevost enthusiast.

Congrats, that’s a gorgeous coach, it will last a lifetime if cared for properly. I have a safety suggestion, that 20lb propane tank in you storage bay is a bomb waiting to go off, it’s so close to those inverters that could easily be an ignition source. Not being critical, only concerned for you and your family. Safe travels
@TedsGarage
@TedsGarage 7 ай бұрын
That’s a good point. I hadn’t thought about the propane being in the same compartment as the inverters, and that could present an ignition source if a leak occurs. I’ll look at alternate locations. Thanks for the suggestion.
@raygunsforronnie847
@raygunsforronnie847 6 ай бұрын
@@TedsGarage The propane tank cannot be in a fully enclosed compartment. Usually they are permanently installed and the bay bottom is either open or expanded metal. DOT requirement.

@TedsGarage

I got the scoop off of eBay. Take measurements of the area for your air inlet and then look around, there are a lot of different options out there - you'll just need to search and measure until you find one that fits.

Thanks and hope you enjoy my upcoming videos! I’ve got several in the works on the Prevost. My mileage coming home ended up averaging out to 6.8 with the cruise set at 75 most of the time, and slower when required. I’ll get a better picture on mileage as I drive it more.

29:31 Love watching your videos. I currently have been in a 2000 Monaco Diplomat and have followed your conversions and maintenance from your last RV since the Holiday Rambler part of the Monaco family. Have had mine for 10 years. Love the Prevost. I have wanted to get a Prevost also but Cost is always a killer. If you don’t mind me asking what kind of price was for your Prevost. .. Would love to see videos of you driving it and detailing wind experiences from your last Rv. I have done a lot of chassis mods to my rr8r, (safety plus, Koni shocks,trw steer, rear cross braces, air tabs). Still get pushed hard in wind at 65. Looking at Monaco watts front end next and possible front and rear sway bars. All of which costs a lot of money so trying to decipher which one to get next. Any advice you can give me would be appreciated. I spin my own wrenches a little bit, but don’t have indoor storage. Have to grease front seals, not sure on the process yet because truck shops want $1200 to do it. Love the video looking forward to the driving part comparisons,

I'm glad that you've been enjoying my videos and that they've helped you. I'd rather not go into the cost of this bus, but Prevosts in decent condition are going to be a significant increase vs. a similar era RV like yours and my previous Endeavor. I'll add a driving video of the Prevost to my list of videos to make on it, thanks for the suggestion. The next items I would suggest for you are AirTabs and the sway bars. I'm not sure if you've watched my videos on those, but those did make significant improvements (especially my DIY rear sway bar, but that also takes welding and a decent bit of fabrication albeit cheap to do). However I will also tell you that, even with everything I did, there are still times where 60-65 was as fast as I could go simply due to how much wind buffeting I was getting bouncing the bus around. If you're fine with a 40' and willing to go to an 8V92 instead of the Series 60 (which comes with a fuel economy penalty) and get rid of slides, the early 90s Prevosts offer a good value if you want to upgrade. However for us 45' was a requirement as was a Series 60. The 2-strokes are harder to keep cool and they do come with a significant fuel economy penalty. Also of course an older bus is going to be an older bus, you'll have another ~10 years of aging on everything. I will say I walked through a few non-slide Prevosts and I was surprised how much more space they had vs. my Endeavor slides in.

Thank you. It is so great that you replied so quickly which I appreciate and shows that you are a good man of character. I have watched all of your videos on your last motorhome. Yes I have installed the air tabs . Source engineering sells a rear sway bar and front sway bar for the Monaco. Can hardly wait to see more of your Prevost videos now. 7:54

Good morning Ted, can you tell me what Sony AV units are in the coach?We recently purchased a production DP and the the TV's were upgraded they removed the AV reciever. Thank you
@TedsGarage
@TedsGarage 3 ай бұрын
The units in my coach are Sony STR-DH590s. They aren't RV specific and not something I'd had any familiarity with before. Overall I find they work well. On my previous RV, I simply installed a sound bar setup for both front and rear. This was simpler to do and overall I think a better solution. The Sony units work but they'll automatically switch sources and that can get a bit annoying. Plus they do take up a lot of shelf space. The good part is that they have outputs for standard speakers, so if you already have speakers wired in your RV this could be a good solution. Sound quality is good, but no AM/FM built-in natively.

It did come with Bridgestones all around, and yes they’re 365s on the steer and tag. Apparently they were available with a commercial program the previous owner had. I’ve since replaced the drive tires with super singles (also Bridgestones), which I’ll cover in an upcoming video but I’m very happy with.

@tedsgarage were you able to find and fix more air leaks? If so, where were the leaks?
@TedsGarage
@TedsGarage 3 ай бұрын
Finding air leaks is still ongoing. I replaced the push to connect fittings behind the dash going to the air gauges and that helped, I found another push to connect fitting just forward of the drive axle that was leaking and I replaced all the air bags and the push to connect fittings on those. It’s all helped a ton but my air compressor is passing oil and the governor is leaking, so those are next. I’m expecting a fairly constant game of whack-a-mole with it given how many air fittings there are.

@TedsGarage
@TedsGarage 7 ай бұрын
This has 98k miles on it. I’d rather not share the cost on it, Prevosts have a wide variety of costs depending on the specifics of the unit (age, slides, conversion status, etc) and so you have to look at each of them individually. They tend to be a bit more unique than standard RVs in that regard because of the variety in their builds.

I bought it from Premium Coach Group in Arizona, who was selling it on behalf of Bordur Coach. I'm still happy with the bus and we're glad we bought it. It's also a 22 year old, complex vehicle and so I don't expect it to be new and perfect, we knew what we were buying. The custom work I had Bordur do I'm happy with and is definitely better than it would've been if we'd done it ourselves. That said, there are a lot of things on there that were missed, not properly taken care of/vetted, or otherwise not addressed. I've got other videos that I'm working on that will be coming on this, including an "Everything wrong with my Prevost" video, so stay tuned for those to be coming in future weeks.
