I Bought A Tag Monaco (Homage)!

Well, this is a weird one. I've had my eye on an homage to the Tag Monaco Gulf for a while, and now that it's here... I'm not so sure!
I love the Gulf colours and the Seiko VK64 movement, but the sub dials are
..odd. Watch the unboxing to see why!

It was looking pretty slick until the running seconds hand / 24 hr subdial snafu!! I’m anxious to hear the final story on this one. Dial and colors look pretty crisp, and you’ve already vouched for the strap!

Always felt the MOnaco would be a particularly hard watch to replicate, but this looks really good!

I think. Mines acrylic crystal I had loads of bother setting up the strap as well

Hi, with this version, the crown must be on the left side. (Caliber 11). There ist the new version where the Gulf stripes are thinner and there is the crown on the right side (Caliber 12)

I just received the homage to the limited edition Gulf version 2022 and it has no issues. The complications match the movement And the watch looks and works great.

Yeah, unfortunately they messed mine up with the dial, but I've seen others and they made the correct changes to it.

that actually looks pretty good...minus the fake subdial. Makes me think it's just a re-branded rep which I'm unsure how I feel about. I do really like the Green dial they offer. Couple things. your escapement time isn't a VK64, it's a Epsom movement or something like that. The VK64 does NOT have a running seconds hand. it's typically at the 6 oclock position like on the VK63, but obviously missing on this movement. 3 subdial is indeed a 24hour dial. if they fixed the 24 hour dial, i'd probably buy one just for the heck of it because it's cheap enough and interesting enough.

Yeah, I misspoke on that, I forgot about that escapement time, think it's actually a Miyota now that memory serves. The dial is apparently being resolved in the next run according to the store. He has offered to send me a new dial if I want it to do a swap.

For the right subdial you re talking about it's as on ALL vk64 movement a 24 Hours subdial not a second running subdial. If the one you got on your black watch indicate running second, it means it is not an original VK64 Movement, maybe a modified one or just not a seiko vk64. Seiko VK64 got on the left hour chrono dial, on the right a 24H subdial

Vk64 meca-quartz movement in this Monaco homage doesn’t have a small second. It has a 24 hours indicator at 3 o’clock . The Escapement Time flieger chronograph has a Miyota 6S21 that is not a meca-quartz movement even though the minutes counter at 9 o’clock has an instant reset. 6S21 has a small second at 3 o’clock You can’t compare these two chronograph movements.

I like the Monaco but and this is a reasonable homage however the odd dial situation is anon starter for me....🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⌚🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⌚

That apparently is getting fixed, the store have new dials printed and I think if you make sure to ask for the new dial, it should be fine

I love it! For it to show up broken lets me know how well they nailed a TAG -- I bought a $7K Green Monaco a year ago - and the pushers did not work - sent it back and got a refund... so, there you go, they have the TAG nailed to a T- shows up broken!

Never heard of these but the quality seems to be solid for the price point. The branding is a bit meh, but very nice otherwise

I think they tried to copy the exact look of the real thing, so they replaced the 24 hour sub dial with the 60 minutes dial. Looks over functions, I guess. Thanks for the review, I've been eyeing this one for a while

Would love this 60something/24hour subdial, if i could figure out the math of it...😜 Still, i was never a fan of Monacos, so not for me in general. Thanks anyways for showing this, be well mate, cheers.

Not a worry, I wouldn't mind either, I think you'd be just using it as a guideline for 24 hour indicator anyways. The Monaco is definitely a Marmite/Vegemite piece

You do know this is a Tag Monaco homage, right? Tag Heuer? In any case, I reckon this is a decent watch, the edifice looks to be much more expensive, only quartz, not mechaquartz and still doesn't have sapphire.

I thought about this one - had it in my cart (and I actually have a Specht & Sohn - orange Aquanaut) but on the photos this looked a bit thick. How thick is it?

It is a thick boy alright, not measured but significantly chunkier than, say, the Pagani Design chronos with same movement

Dude, you ran right past how to get the clasp to work. I'm trying to figure mine out. I saw you with the clasp and said oh great hes gonna show me how, then you did your minute of fiddling with it off camera.

Oh, my bad man. It's a weird one, I've not really worn it much since I got it. To describe, you have to feed the non clasp piece through and over the little pin hole, then pinch the sides of the non clasp piece so the strap sits into the groove. The non clasp pointed leather piece is awkward, you have to kind of fold it under the clasp so it conforms to your wrist before closing the clasp. Which is a bit finicky in itself.
