How does this style relate to the academy? It strikes me as a cottage - very rural, quaint, idyllic. The dark part of dark academia refers to the stressfulness of academic life, often accompanied by too much drinking, smoking, dark rooms, inadequately lit, lack of sleep, tons of books, reading assignments, etc., _and_ the emotional turmoil typical of serious students.

@@gaslitworldf.melissab2897 I think one can have an academic lifestyle without being in formal education. One reads, researches one's interests, meditates and performs one's own form of magic, often late into the night. It can take one to a dark place sometimes. But, taking the phrase Dark Academia less literally, it can also mean a style of decor. Dark furniture, dusty old books, rich fabrics, candles, lush plants, that sort of thing. I like to think of it as Goth for Grownups 🙂

I live in a 125 yr old cottage in rural Victoria. I named her Gramarye Cottage which means ‘Magic’ cottage. I’m an Eclectic Pagan Witch. My cottage decor is dark forest/ academia/witchy/gothic/cottagecore I’d say and all my furniture and decor items are antique/ second hand/ thrifted. Dear Nancy, as a gothic witch myself, this spoke to my soul! Congratulations and many blessings in your beautiful cottage. I love hearing about the signs that made you know that this house was meant for you. I have experienced something similar in search of my house. I've always dreamed of living in a historical home, my very own Practical Magic house. Imagine my surprise when I found just that two years ago, a townhouse from 1840 with all the features I have imagined for my historical dream home. Not only that, but... there was a pentacle in the garden, a round disk poured into the earth, the star outlined in white stones. It was THE sign that it was meant to be! :)

I love that story! Congratulations on finding your dream home. I moved from a 1970s council flat to my 1906 house last year. It was a journey! The first time I entered the house my eyes filled with tears. I felt as if I'd come home. Now I've been here nearly a year and I still can't believe my luck! No pentacle in the garden, unfortunately, but I do have a tiki bar! Maybe it's a sign to drink more! Blessings x

I so hope your dream is realised, sweet soul. Owning your own home is getting harder and harder these days, but is a wonderful goal to aim towards. Thanks so much Sally! I am so obsessed with these rich plum shades right now - and also lavender - I think it's making a comeback in interiors... that's just my hunch anyway. The neighbours with the rose garden made me a little housewarming gift, a posy and some blueberry muffins - how sweet is that?

It was truly so peaceful wandering there as the sun set. I find life sooo noisy and overwhelming, it is always a cacophony of voices, sensations, moods... so places like this are heavenly and quiet to me. The places where others dare not tread... especially after dark... that's where I love!

What a darling cottage! ❤️ It has the same colour scheme as our cottage from the 1930’s, which we had moved from Preston all the way to the high country. I love the charm of old houses. What a lovely job you've done already! I moved into Rose Cottage (built for me, so brand new! But still with lots of charm!) Just two weeks ago, April 17th. I have a dreamy new bed, and lots of old things from my former life ... I had a sweet black clawfoot tub that I'd never installed - since my home is designed for aging in place (I'm 72) sigh ...I just have a shower, a friend took the tub. I have a cabinet my dad built nearly 100 years ago in his school shop class - it's serving as my pantry, and my largest harp Rowan looks quite at home on the living room. I have a second 'bedtoom' for my library, at and music room, and we got a load of books and such from storage last night for me to go through and decide where to place/ what to keep this time. I brought pants in pots as well, and am so glad to see which came through the winter! And to sort and contemplate what goes where ... Congratulations on your wonderful move, and on settling in

Oh Nadya, your home sounds like a dream, although it is sad about your beautiful bathtub. I find soaking in epsom salts really helps with my chronic pain, but I understand. And you know, I actually had one of my 'prophetic visions' about this house, but at the time, as is always the case, I didn't know it was about me 🐈‍⬛🖤

New viewer as this just popped up on my feed. So happy it did and I have just subscribed. I can't wait to see these empty rooms come to life. I am 72 but still am completely intrigued with the dark academia vibe which is so enveloping and cozy. The gardens, the mature plantings , the gothic cathedral in the distance, the cemetery... just perfect. Plus I love saturated color, so can't wait to see all your choices and visions come to fruition. How wonderful to have this blank canvas!!! I am ready for the journey.... transport me! It is a gorgeous old cottage. In immaculate condition. Reminds me very much of my previous federation home in Katoomba blue mountains. Though mine was in poor condition.. I still miss that home. The people that bought it kept the outside traditional but gutted the inside. Not to my taste.. Personally I'm not a fan of stark white interiors, I love the rich Berry paint shades you've chosen. They will make it warm and cosy, like crushed velvet fabric. Queen Anne furniture is perfect for your home. Love the bed head! Congratulations on your new home. I adore the camellias and maple, and of course the Belladonna lilies. They always herald autumn to me. Can't wait to see your garden flourish 😊🍁🍂

This was in my recommendations. Thank you for this. The audio. The editing. The things you said was so magical and whimsical. The art! All the goals! Just one thing, the book you showed at the start has foxing on it. This is a mold and will spread to other books, you ether want to keep it in plastic or replace it. Mild cases can be treated with Clove bud oil but being that's its spread deep into the pages I wouldn't risk it. I lost over 80% of my book collection last yr due to it. And the miss information that it's 'just aging' when it spread to brand new books I had brought within 6month! And I've seen 100's yr old books without it! Because people dnt take it seriously, it's not something people know they need to be mindful of. Also as it's a mold, it isn't good for our or our pets health. Again thank you for this magical video!
