I loved your sponsor segue. Well done. Nice bike! I prefer the custom to the classic (vote was 7 to 5 with three of my personalities abstaining). My standard list of mods to suggest: keyless ignition, led lights all around, steel braided brake lines, consider the seats, I like bags, check the tires. That’s my general list. Specifically for me: lose the chrome, small to medium wind screen, engine protectors, armored riding gear and backpack sized lunch box. 🤗

I have a 2009 v-star and I do not look after it , I have it serviced once every 2 or 3 years and I have never had a problem with it

I bought my 99 Yamaha v star classic from an elderly man I did a job for. Bought it for 1000$ best thing I ever did.

I've got the same model year. Great bike and I wouldn't get rid of it but it hasn't ran for a couple of months. Haven't been able to figure it out.

Get you some fog/passing lights for the front, I have a set on my v star and it really fills out the front end, and also really makes the look 👌

Fit and finish on the Vstar is awesome , terrible restricted stock exhaust on the 1300, but swapped out for a cobra, awakened the beast (and neighbours) Love Harleys so no hate from me, but wouldn't swap yam for one.

Get yourself a tinted windshield, some bags, and modernize it with led on all lights. Maybe hit up plex audio and get some jams going.

Jet the carbs and install filter pods. You will be happy

I have one and like it very much. The problem I have with it is speed. In fifth gear with the engine is maxed out, I’m lucky to be going 55. Curious what’s up with that. I’ve seen videos of the bike doing 65 comfortably.

I've owned my 650 Dragstar Classic {thats the UK spec, & name} from new, since 2000....TBH, I prefer the lighter looking Classic to the chunkier Custom, but that is a minor detail. The best mod I made to it, was the addition of a "Mustang" seat ...it lowers my riding position a little {which I think helps the handling} and my wife would flatly refuse to ride on the standard rear seat now, as she says the Mustang is w-a-y more comfortable. The addition of a pair of medium sized {leather} panniers, a small "sissy bar" {Yamahas own offering for the V-Star/Dragstar} and a small aftermarket {Givi} windshield make it {IMHO} the perfect light/middle weight cruiser. IF{?} I was to sell it ....{which I wont} ... and look around for another bike, I really dont think I could buy anything which suits me {and my riding style} the way the 650 does......It's my "bke for life".

You never answered your own question, is it better than a harley. These xvs are well known for back cylinder sizing and the rubber air intake failing. I've worked on loads of these, but still a good machine once looked after
