Are those 3x3 racks worth it over these budget racks?

I’ve always felt like KZfaq home gym influences thought way too hard about the rack. I’ve had this rack for a couple years. I’m not the strongest. I squat over 400. Rack pull over 600 and this rack works absolutely fine with no issue. It’s just light.

If you've been waiting to buy and need a reason to move now, Walmart sells the exact same model under the name ProGear and it's on sale for $209. I just assembled mine last night and it probably took 1.5 - 2 hours by myself.

This is the rack I bought at the beginning of covid to start my home gym journey and it's stood up incredibly well. I can confirm added weight horns make a huge difference. I eventually upgraded it by getting the lat pulldown attachment, a landmine attachment, dip bars, J cups with some plastic padding, and by drilling into the top of it and mounting the titan wall mount cable machines to either side to make a poor man's functional trainer.

During lockdown I went with BoS tall residential power rack. I've bought other BoS stuff so they would fit the rack. Now that I've been lifting at home for over a year, I would be open to trying cheaper products. Videos like this one is very helpful for new home gym purchasers, thanks! And congratulations on the arrival of "Bubba" Gluck. I hope Mama and Bubba are doing well.

I would love to see more good quality 2x2 and 2x3 racks. 99% of lifters don't need 11 gauge 3x3 steel that ends up being unnecessary weight and cost.

Commenting to let people know that Walmart sells this same rack under the ProGear brand for 209. Only difference is that it has J Cups instead of those weird circle ones.

Awesome video! I bought this during Covid and it has held up to quite a beating. Regarding stability, I found some cheap 24in spotter arms to put on the front and I have had upwards of 500lb+ sitting on a bar across these arms with no weight on the back of the rack. The rack did not budge at all! Glad to hear there are other adaptations people have made successful.

I've had this rack for about 6 months now. It's worked well, got Yes4All weight horns and Titan T2 sandwich J-cups. The default J-cups are trash, I only use them if I want to hang up my coat.

I have this rack and have got creative with adding diy to it. Fantastic rack for the budget. Awesome review once again.

I've been debating on getting this rack so this review was great timing.

This is the rack I always point newbies towards. I had one just like this for over a decade and added tons of accessories to it over the years including a homemade reverse hyper attachment and a selectorized weight stack high/low pulley. I put the rack through the wringer and it never let me down. The only reason I eventually upgraded to a 3x3 rack was because they're cooler honestly haha

It'd be a cool option to use this as a first rack, then later upgrade to a better rack, and keep this one as a bench press station.

I bought this rack almost 3 years ago thinking that I would upgrade it once more racks were available. Well....a ton of racks are now available and I find myself thinking twice before actually making the "upgrade". This just suits all of my needs, I have the lat pulldown (which is great), I love the dip attachments, and the size has been perfect for my space. Every time I think about upgrading it, I slow myself down and weigh in the reasons for upgrading it, it turns out it's always just one reason... too have a cooler looking rack like all the youtubers and people one FB groups do.

I like using pex tubing for my pin safety’s. Works great, cheap, looks cool, and easy to cut. I made my own pin safety’s after using straps that I got with my rack. I don’t see the need to mark 2 sides of the rack to remember my spots. I think I’m getting spotter arms next

I love my 810XLT I have added weight horns and the lat pull down, which helps to keep it stable. I also have added some lever arms to it.

Alec from Enkiri Elite fitness mains a similar if not the same rack for all his lifts and he’s pretty strong. Good to see this rack getting more attention haha

I love mine. I have the dip bars/lat pulldown/landmine attachment/lever arms/leg press attachment. Absolute budget gym but it holds up and it does everything I need it to do in a small basement space

Yup got my Fitness Reality 810 XLT delivered by Walmart, nearly 2 years ago. Still going strong, very strong. I don't need another rack, this one works just fine, and has 95% less hype.

"A-cups"... Nice... I couldn't convince myself to spend for a 3x3. I was pretty sure I was going to be happy with a home gym so I went with the 2x3 Titan T-3. But if I wasn't sure? A good budget rack to check out is the TDS one. Not much more money than this. 2"x2" but pretty heavy gage steel. 1" holes. Solid steel pins. Can by a high/low pulley station for it. Great value, IMO.

I have the CAP FM-8000F two post rack. I have been happy with it. But I may have to get one of these racks at some point. The thing that is selling me on it is the lat pull down. Mainly because it works with standard plates. I am not really in the mood to upgrade to Olympic and having to buy new plates, ba4s etc. So when I find standard compatible stuff, I get excited. Things are hard to find. But sometimes you can find them. I have a standard trap bar I found on Amazon. So a standard compatible cable setup is really appealing. Since my CAP is 2X2 with 1 inch hoes, I can use my existing J cups and spotter arms. If you want to review another budget rack, check out that CAP 2 post.

I have Titans stealth leg press that I use on this rack, with weight horns it stays still. The lat pulldown is functional. I use the J cups that came with it to hang my bands when I'm not using them. I can honestly say that purchasing it has gotten me working out more, because it's convenient and keeps me from killing myself with a barbell.

If you're willing to do some experimentation that can get risky, I've used tie down straps as safety catches in the past

I have been using this rack for years as, I don't know, maybe an intermediate lifter (bench and squat around 300) and the thought of a different rack never even crosses my mind. I have the lat attachment and I love this thing. I did have to shim it up with 2x4's to get the safety pins at the perfect height. I added the Titan monolift attachment for benching, works great. These won't work for squats in this rack, it is too short.

Can you put a monolift attachment on this? I’m looking at either Rouge or titans. Also do you have a affiliate discount code? If so I’d get one and use your code .

Didn't Eric Bugenhagen have one of these fitness reality power racks for like 10 plus years? Dude lifts more than all of us combined and that thing survived all of it Edit: It indeed was a body solid power rack

At minimum the bar hooks need to go and trade out the safety pins for straps. I know weight bars aren't meant to be babied but my Rogue Ohio Power bar in stainless steel is so darn good looking I could never subject it to that kind of treatment.

I always say that one the the greatest lies in the home gym market is that you need a 3x3 rack. 3x3 is nice but these cheapo 2x2's will accommodate the needs of most lifters. I have a Titan T-2 and squatting up to 405 feels perfectly safe. Getting creative and adding parts to your rack is half the fun. We are told we need to buy from the maker of our rack but you can rig most things together with some creativity.

I’m in the process of upgrading my home gym to something more serious, already ordered an Olympic barbell and will soon replace my “general purpose” benches which don’t support much weight (I guess those are ok for people just doing one light workout every now and then or just people not getting serious into training at home), but also will order my first ever rack at the same time (I honestly dread the moment I’ll have to assemble it, I know I can but I’m so lazy for that). Basically I want something like right at the end of “entry level” and at the very very start of “mid level”, i still doubt I’ll ever lift super heavy weights (not that much into strength, also 2nd strongest at my house is my dad who’s elderly and can barely lift 15 kilos… so won’t have a proper spotter at home) but I definitely want to buy something future-proof (like if I want to get more attachments I can do so, if my home gym changes place I can just move it to the new place and so on). So far this is one of my top picks (also the only one recommended by content creators available in Mexico), still unsure if the pull-ups bar is the right height for me as I’m 1.80m (sorry I don’t know what that is in feet and inches), apparently should be safe but my current pull-up bar which is around 2m I have to bend my legs behind or I’ll just be standing in the floor while “hanging”

It's crazy how this rack is about 400€ (that is over US$431) over here on Amazon Germany while you still can get it on Amazon US for only US$249. And the LAT Pulldown & Leg Holdown Attachment is US$178 for you while over here they want 299€ for it (which equates to US$322). The Cable Corssover and Lat Pulldown Set isn't even available. Talking of getting ripped off... almost US$200 more for the cage is just crazy.

I wish I would have bought this instead of the BalanceFrom PC-1 rack. The BalanceFrom is non standard 2.5 x 2.5 tubing and so hard to find accessories to fit 2.5 x 2.5.

I bought this rack with the lat pull down attachment, and land mine.....mainly bought it because there's a million generic attachments that fit.

The amazon junk out there holds up very well for the average home gym user. I'm guessing most (percentage wise) aren't going over 3 plates on a bench or a squat. Maybe a rack pull....

Adding the Lat pulldown, some weight horns, and Titan spotter arms to the front makes this a super stable and versatile rack. I bench and squat out front now, and leave the pin safeties and leg hold-down bar in place so I can quickly switch to lat pull down by slightly moving my bench. Hard to beat for the money!

Would this rack survive a day at Westside Barbell?

u/rice_bledsoe here, thanks for using my pic from r/homegym as a frankenrack example! I really miss my 810XLT outfitted with Titan T-2 attachments and Yes4all weight horns. We had to sell it when we moved but it served great use during the pandemic. My only complaint was the lack of stability especially when I was doing dips and even pull-ups. If I have enough space in the future for a 3x3 4-post or even 6-post rack, I'll definitely be getting one from Rep or Titan, but there will always be a soft spot in my heart for my 810XLT frankenstein.
