I bought and rebuilt a 1988 Honda CR250 .. will it run..?

I bought a 1988 Honda CR250 off one of my friends after he blew it up because the throttle stuck open and he couldn’t switch it off. It’s taken a few months to get it back together and up and running. Quite excited as it’s my first 80s motorcycle I’ve owned, all the others have been mid 90s . Will keep developing it and making rad videos . Hope you enjoy

it still amazes me how quickly and far motocross bikes advanced from the late 70's to the late 80's. I don't think there has ever been a decade where bikes changed so much.

They’ve changed a lot but I don’t think the speeds/laptimes are much different. Like you can still be competitive on a 20 year old bike

Really cool with the old hpp head on the 250s. Sounds like it rips, but yeah make sure your powervalve is opening up!

Good stuff. I had the pleasure of riding a new one back in ‘88. Until then I hadn’t ridden a 250 mx machine. I had an ‘86 125 cr (still have it) and I had ridden a couple of 500’s but, the 250 struck me as being awsome.

Congrats on the great purchase! Sticking throttle is the worst. Hard to trust a bike when it has tried to kill it's rider before, lol On my '90 the chrome wore off the throttle body and stuck a few times. Wild rides!

Hello mate, I also have the same bike. Mines has also been prone to a sticky throttle. The power valve is a bit of a pain in the arse to set up right. Going by the manual it doesn’t want to connect up. I managed to get it by removing the bolt cover on the side of the barrel and dropping in the pinions from the top until meshed then it all pulled back in nicely. You can also remove the little HPP cover on the side of the barrel to watch for it opening when running. Mines still wants to foul a plug each time out on warm up.

Hey mate. Yes this bike blew up from the throttle sticking with previous owner so I got a new carb, throttle cable and housing and touch wood it’s been okay so far

@@nevsta272 Nice one man. Did you manage to get the power valve set up? Also, are you running stock suspension and if so, what do you think of it? I’m debating whether or not to change the shock and forks on mine or modify what I have

That bike would still be competitive today. I don’t think bikes have changed enough is 30 years to really make a difference. With the right mods it could line in with the experts and pros and I would love to see it happen someday. Also you have a very smooth and cautious riding style which is fun to watch

@@nevsta272 The popularity of 2 strokes has come back in a huge way so I see Honda finally building again soon. When the demand is there it will happen. A 2 stroke is a true race bike where as a 4 stroke is not. The KTM and Yamaha are both incredible 2 strokes but we need Honda to build them and everything will change

@@nevsta272 The 2 strokes are far more powerful and faster than the 4 strokes which is why they have them competing unfairly. A 2 stroke 250 is way faster than a 4 stroke 250

Hello, I have a cr 250 '91 that is the same engine, I'm trying to make the hpp power valve work but I can't get it, I think it doesn't hook well and it doesn't work properly, any recommendations? By the way, I have the manual but it doesn't help much in that assembly step.

Haha that’s why I’m saying will it run.. I can do basic mechanic stuff but rebuilding bikes from scratch is a stretch 😁😁
