Meet N9477A, my 1949 Cessna 140A!
The 140 resto-mod is already underway! 77A will be getting the full treatment with Garmin avionics, a panel restoration by Neal Aviation, and paint and interior by ArtCraft with a design by Flight Lines. Both the Bonanza and the 140 will be on display at the Garmin booth at Oshkosh this year - come say hi! Follow my Instagram @bayflight for more information on where you can find me at OSH.
Thank you all so much for watching - I couldn't have done this without the amazing support I get from all of you and I can't wait to share more 140 adventures!

I used to own 77A I was the owner that pulled out the headliner, cleaned out the corrosion that was under it, painted the metal and installed the shoulder harnesses. I also installed the 8.00 tires and put in the new brakes. The biggest job I did was getting rid of the old carb (a Stromberg) and replacing it with a brand new Marvel-Scheibler. I installed the new Alaska Bushwheels tailwheel and the new springs. I enjoyed owning it, but with a plane that old, it is really being a caretaker

I got my PPL in a Cessna 140A in 1962. That 140A taught me a lot. It made the transition to more than 50 different types of airplanes and gliders easy after my basic training in the 140A. I owned my own Cessna 185 on both floats and wheels for 14 years. I now fly a Cessna L-19 tow plane for my local soaring club. When people tell me they are going to get their pilots license, I suggest they try to find a tail dragger and get at least their first 20 hours in it. The habits you learn in those first 20 hours will serve you well the rest of your flying career. BTW...when I learned to fly they did not call them "tail draggers"...they were "conventional gear" aircraft. To further give away my age...my first 20 hours were in an Aeronca Champ and my first lesson was how to hand prop it! The instructor did not trust me at the controls for starting the engine on the first lesson. Have fun with your "new" bird.

That surely won't be the case after a full Garmin avionics and panel upgrade, a new interior and a new paint job! I believe she paid $33K for it and the upgrades would probably cost the average Jane Pilot $75-$100K would be my guess. :)

When my roommate Larry and I bought a 1947 Cessna 140 N2123N (with a 170B metal wing!) in 1968, our beautiful little plane was 21 years old, Larry was 20 and I was 24. Many months later, Larry took his private check ride in it, and I took my commercial. There was just enough room behind the seat for an ice chest and two sleeping bags. Oh, the stories! I hope you enjoy your 140 as much as we enjoyed ours.

Alright Stevie! You will love the C-140. I grew up flying my fathers C-120 back in the 70s. The 120/140 is a honest flying A/C with good flight characteristics and low fuel burn. I'm sure the guys you have lined up doing the work will check, but make sure to have a close inspection done on the gear box and door post columns. Cracks have been known to form (it is a 70+ year old airplane after all) and those cracks can lead to gear failure on landing, which is not good! The 120/140 Association is a tremendous resource for keeping these old birds flying and great people to boot. Good luck, great choice. Look forward to seeing you and 77 Alpha at AirVenture!

First, congrats on the 140A. It’s not ugly; beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Now you will really learn how to fly. As a former 120, 140, 170B, and S-35 owner (all great birds), I might add the the only thing wrong with a Bonanza is that the tailwheel is on the wrong end!

Ms. Triesenberg, I love your videos even if they are few and far between. Your editing is great, the music is great, and it feels like I'm flying right along with you. This vicarious-living characteristic is something difficult to achieve but you do it well. You make me want to fly, which is an old, old dream of mine. When I was a young man, I flew in a tail-dragger with a good friend. I got a little time on the yoke, which was quite infectious. But there was never time or money. Now I'm old and have no idea whether I could pass a flight physical. But, who knows, maybe I'll try. I should do ground school, at least. Thank you so much for taking us along for the ride.

Congratulations! I soloed in a 140, N9683) in 1956. At that time the V-tailed Bonanza was considered the Cadillac of light aircraft. I was a skinny senior in high school at the time and I'll never forget the surprise at how quickly she lifted off after my instructor got out and said, "Take her around the pattern". I myself am of 1938 vintage and while I was never considered a luxury model no one ever called me "Lil' Ugly". I felt ultra cool when flying that plane. I noticed in your in-flight shot of the panel the airspeed indicator is hovering just above 80 mph. A little disconcerting to see those trucks on I-5 passing you up. I think you're in for a lot of fun with your new airplane.

WOW Stevie... That's quite an undertaking! A lil back story... I purchased a Restored Prize Winning 1947 Piper J3 Cub back in June 1986 in Madison Wisconsin, N3461K and gifted to my 30K ATP Dad for his last Fathers Day in 1986. Not my era of aviation, but I managed to get it back to BUF through the CHI TCA sans transponder with a Telex Portable Radio, push to talk switch and my JEP Case belted to the front seat. Remembering Dads Cub Stories from my childhood, I recalled his most relevant comment about "Tail Wheel Pilot's"... Those who have ground looped and those who are about to! Congrats Kiddo and LOOKING FORWARD TO "Lil-Ugly's" transformation ';-) Thanks for sharing!!

My grandfather had a ‘50 version of the A. Of course, with me as a little kid in the 1960s the plane didn’t seem that old. It was just small, slow, and loud, compared to his Bonanza and twin Beech at the time. I never understood why he had it. But he was gone most every summer Sunday afternoon in it from about 1966 until he sold it in about 1969. Congratulations on your purchase.

I enjoy watching any and all General Aviation related videos, but what makes yours especially enjoyable to watch is that they have inspired my 10 year old daughter to take an interest in aviation as well. Simply because it had never come up before in conversation while studying for my PPL, she had no idea that women could be pilots outside of the military (we have a friend that is a Marine Corps CH-53 pilot). Now whenever I'm watching GA videos, she insists that we watch yours first! Thanks again for helping me to connect with and inspiring my daughter!

I love survivor planes and their original paint, interiors, panels and low-tech engines. This is a seventy year old plane that passed the latest annual and has been well cared-for and flies like it did when it was new. You don't need to change a thing and you will still have a gem. OK, maybe AIS and a mount for an IPAD, but KISS for a while and just fly it. I love your flying enthusiasm and your self-confidence. You are likely a more accomplished pilot than I am and you will go far, so keep going Onward and Upward (Arriba e Andelante)

Yay another Luscombe fan!!! Back in 1957-1958, my dad owned a 1948 Luscombe, I was 7-8 years old at the time, and loved to fly with him as often as possible. He bought it out of TradeAPlane for $1600. He had to sell it when we decided to move from San Francisco to San Diego. I don't recall if it was an 8A or 8E model. It was the basic model, no electrical system, and had to be handpropped. I got real good at standing on the brakes while dad got out and propped the engine. If it still exists (and hasn't been repainted), you'd never believe the paint job it had.. Pink with black trim.

Awesome pick, Stevie! I bet you will find yourself flying the 140A much more than the Bonanza. I can't wait for more Lil Ugly content. Love your Bonanza too, but the 140A is more my kind of thing. Best regards from Brasilia, Brazil.
