I Bought My Dream Camera | Sony A7C Vlog

Күн бұрынIn todays video - I cover my brand new camera, the Sony A7C.
This is filmed in a vlog style format and this is pretty close to being my dream camera setup. I'm excited to show you guys the incredible 4K image the Sony A7C produces, along with the help of the super sharp Sony 20mm 1.8 lens.
This is my first time using a full frame setup, so it took me a while to work all of the settings out. However, after using it for filming this entire vlog - I feel a lot more confident.
I used the standard picture profile - with sharpening turned all the way down, saturation at +2 and contrast at -2. This seemed to produce some natural looking footage and I'm really impressed with the colour science this camera has out of the box.
I'm also using the rode video-micro for audio which has been working brilliantly so far.

I have the a7c and same little tripod too :) but I don’t have the 20mm lens yet, looks really nice, I think I need it haha

The tripod is great isn’t it? I would highly recommend the 20mm 1.8 🙌 What lens are you using at the moment?

@@royastewart I got the kit lens with it, very light weight and great quality, great for pics of my kid :) But a tad too cropped for vlogging (28-60mm). I tried once and it worked but closer up on my face than I like lol This 20mm looks great for arm length away and SO sharp!

@@christopherdixon7816 nice! First impressions? I got the Samyang 18mm and love the width and weight but not real impressed with the quality, might return it for the Sony 20mm or something else…

@@MollyFitzBrown first impressions are I’m very excited lol ... nice weight and feel to it! I think I will prefer having it to a prime lens so I can have a little more freedom with one lens! I really wanted the Sony 16-35 but £2000 compared to £850 is a very big difference!

I have the Sony ecm-xyst1m mic on mine and love it. Direct connect on top, not too big and sounds great!

Nice one, Roy! The video looks crispy 👌 glad you’re enjoying the a7C! It definitely takes a bit of time to get used to the menu. Probably spend a bit of time and add the main settings you need into the ‘My Menu’ at the end of the main menu, that has helped me a lot! If you want any advice or have any questions about the camera, hit me up - I’ve been using it for 5 months now and I also came from Canon, so I know the struggle 😂 also, ketchup on eggs is banging! Been eating that for years 🙌

Thanks Arran! Really appreciate the comment. I’ve started using the ‘my menu’ feature a whole lot more 🙌 It saves me a lot of time and filters out a lot of the settings I don’t touch! I’ve actually got a quick question for you now you’re here haha 🤣 I just bought a variable ND for filming outdoors - but on some of the footage I’ve got this purple/black vignette around the image? Is there a way to avoid this? Not sure if it’s because I had my f stop too low (1.8) for filming outdoors 🤔 Any help would be appreciated!

@@royastewart good stuff! Yeah, I also found that there are a load of features I never touch, so the My Menu is great! Hmmm, not had that issue with any of my variable NDs - it might be an issue with the ND that you've bought! You often get a black X appearing across the image at the extremes of turning the ND filter, but I've not really experienced any issues with vignetting in general. It may be using a VND on such a wide angle lens? Might be something to Google! Haha. Sorry I can't help more!

After i watershed this I went and bought this camera. I used it this weekend for the first time I love it. I can’t wait to make my next KZfaq video with it 🙌🏼🙌🏼

@@royastewart I watched so much KZfaq but after this vid it was ordered hahaha. I went for the kit lens because I wasn’t sure I if I would need it and thought why now. Then I got the tamron 17-28 2.8 as my vlog lens. I just need to plan my next video now.

@@royastewart Haha got to love KZfaq. I think it will be from what I’ve watched. I took it out for some photography at the weekend of a old plane crash, the pictures I got for my Instagram turned out really good. 100% happy with it, so I thank you for that.

congratulations buddy , i had saved up my money to upgrade to A7 C from my sony a5100 .. i spent my savings on engineering college fees it kinda sucks

Just got it as well with the sigma 16mm. Loving it so far! Make sure to set up the 3 memory modes asap. I set mine to: 1- A roll 2- B roll 3 - no settings yet

Matter of interest where did you get the fade done. PS - scrambled eggs with either siracha sauce or a good chilli oil m as makes the bomb in the morning. Did you have your ibis switched off when you used catalyst browse, there was motion shake.

I had my fade done by a barber called Kev who owns a shop called ‘The Fox Hole’ check them out on Instagram if you are local to Glasgow 🙌 I’ll need to try that with my eggs - sounds really nice. I had the IBIS switched off but my shutter speed was too low in the clip that I used catalyst browse with. I’ve now learned that it works better when your shutter speed is around the 150/200 mark. Great video! Glad you're happy with the new setup. You mentioned that when you first got the camera you were noticing things were a little shakier because of the weight. Using the Manfrotto Pixi handheld, are you finding that your arm gets fatigued pretty quickly when filming yourself? Does it limit how long you're able to record clips without things getting too shaky? Could you offer a conservative estimate on how many minutes you could comfortably have your arm extended and supporting that wight? Thanks!

Glad you enjoyed the video mate! When it comes to holding the camera with the pixie tripod - it’s all dependent on the person. I don’t tend to hold the camera and speak to it for more than 30 seconds - so it’s fine in that sense. I reckon you could hold it for a good couple of minutes and keep the footage reasonably still. If you noticed the footage was getting shaky due to your arm becoming fatigued - you could also use catalyst browse! This is Sony’s stabilisation software which basically irons out any camera shake. Only problem with this is that it takes quite a well to render/stabilise even short clips. So you need a pretty decent laptop/pc to handle it. Hope this helps!
