I Bought my First Porsche 911 Turbo (996)!

This is a car that I have wanted for years and I feel as if it is the natural progression for a Subaru Enthusiast. This is me New to me 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo (996.2). This thing is loaded with all sorts of goodies like a GT2 RS Wing, GT2 RS Bumper, GT3 RS Seats and some added Horsepower! This is something that I am so excited to be working on, Playing with, and learning more about. For now, we are going to do some basic things but in the long term, I would like to take it fully apart and Build my first Mezger engine. To start things off we are going to toss the 911 on the Dyno to see what we have and what we are working with!

Who's complaining about the lights.... it is a fucking Porsche 911 Turbo. Let's go! I completely agree. I have always said if I ever own a Porsche it has to be a Turbo, BMW has to be an M series, etc.

The hate on the "Boxster lights" at least keep the prices of the 996 a bit lower than the 997s. I don't mind the lights at all. I might even take the gateway Boxster S route myself.

This might be the car that finally blows this channel up... I'm okay with you progressing to Porsche, it's the most natural progression from Subaru. Subaru and Porsche are my two favorite car companies so this works out perfect for me.

The Metzger is the most robust engine ever put into a Porsche. You will never have to rebuild that engine. I’ve owned two 996 TT cars over the years, as well as a GT3 street car and my current 991.1 Cup car which has the last Metzger engine put into a race car. Incredible engines. And love your philosophy about not caring what some in Porsche community feel about the headlights. As long as you like the car that’s all that matters. Plus those headlights actually span back to the epic GT1 race car, the last Porsche with an overall LeMans win.

Man i got my 996.2 turbo last year after selling my 2013 sti hatch so i feel the same way about the progression for subaru enthusiasts. Mine is completly stock other than wheels but not when the summer hits. Yours is absolutly stunning congrats!

I’ve had a 996tt for 10 years now. I still LOVE it. I do 80% of my own work. As soon as you said you’re gonna do all work I subbed. Lookin forward to future 996tt content

The 996 GT3 and Turbo actually got the racecar engine. You can read the PN on the case halves starts with 964..., which means the engine lineage is back from the 1980s air cool engines. No IMS bearing issues, no bore score, etc. Now the coolant pipes can pop off the water pump on some cars under heavy track use. Dont let the coolant get corrosive, it will eat all the pipes, ask Tony Angelo😂😂😂. Cup holder is on the dash under the air vents (on my 2005). But is sneaky. Join PCA asap.

Thankfully this one’s already had the coolant pipes pinned so we shouldn’t have to stress too much there 😅 the last owner swapped the interior to a Gt2 spec and got rid of the cup holder 😅 PCA?

Bucket list level purchase. I’d want basically the exact same thing out of a Porsche *when* I get one. The exterior mods, brakes, and interior improvements are stuff I can totally imagine you going anyway. Welcome to the club, a 996 is the gateway drug to 911s, soon you’ll be dumping it for an Air Cooled car. FYI 996 are not hated but it was such a departure from the previous air cooled cars it got a bad wrap (also the issues on the NA cars didn’t help either)

Grats on the 911. 996 is the best intro into 911s. The purest hate the headlights, switch to liquid cooling, and the IMS issues with the NA motors really brought the price point down to get into them. Ive got a few years of getting my daughter through private education before I can get my dream car which is a Porsche. Likely going with a Cayman, but excited for you. I think 2 years ago I joked in the comments after you have blown every h33 motor built, you was going to start pulling Porsche motors.

Super super happy for you Tanner. I recently bought a second car and went with 1989 Porsche 944 Turbo - rare Baltic blue. Great car to tinker with and learn more about mechanics. Great track car. Selling my 2021 STI for a 2024 Forester Wilderness edition, I have young kids haha. One day, I'll have my 911 Turbo. Until then I will live vicariously through you Tanner ;) Can't wait to learn more about your 996.

@@Smeedia Runs, and is fast. Upgraded turbo to what is called the k-26-10, Autothority chips and MAF set up. It's light too and I'm guessing 285~300 whp. I'll get a Dyno and verify the tune this summer. I'm a sucker for 80s era pop-up lights. Will get it paint corrected to Baltic blue, original paint. Currently hunting down a relic widebody kit from Strosek and will make my own in Meshmixer and 3D printing if I can't find it. Fun hobby, no time to make videos though.

But i love the new car on the channel and i would love to see this car with the calipers painted highlighter yellow. It goes well with the silver. Congrats on the new toy and welcome to the Mezger family @Smeedia. Few corrections. There was never an 996 GT2 "RS" made (997 had the GT2 RS model). Only Turbo, Turbo S, or GT2. The GT3 also has the Mezger engine, but without Turbos. The rear lid and wing are actually made but German Tuning company called Techart. The kit is called GTstreet (there was no GT2 RS. See GT2 has air ducts on wing stays, yours are on the lid cover.). The GTstreet XL rear lid & wing is actually quite rare. There are more GT2 replicas than these. You also have the rear under bumper skirts by Techart. The seats are from GT3.
