I am an older player with arthritic hands that will not let me play a full sized bass. I bought one of these and I am delighted with it. Mine was set up beautifully when I got it - no sharp fret edges. It is VERY comfortable to play with a slim neck and low action that I like and absolutely NO fret buzz. It sounds great through my 100 watt Fender Rumble and I gig with it all the time. My band mates love it too!

This is a great little bass. Have the candy apple red one with poplar body and new Zealand pine fretboard and it‘s a very good instrument. I only swapped the bridge with individual bridge pieces to reduce the string spacing from 19 mm to 16,5 mm. As an adult short guy, guitar novice, with small hands and very short fingers, it feels now very comfortable to play. Although it lost some fullness and sustain due the light aluminum pieces, I rather like the new ease of play. Maybe later I'll mount some brass guitar trem block underneath… I made some custom wooden thumb rests for even better playability. The bass needs just a slight levelling on the last 3-4 frets and a rounding of the fret ends incl. the fretboard edge, and oil for the dry fretboard. Can recommend it for everybody, 8-80 y.o., 4ft.-6,5ft., such an affordable fun instrument.

Initially, I was thinking he had dead spots because it was not tuned up to proper tension, but then he brought up the shim issue (sandpaper shim? odd.) and that made sense. He's right. I would normally do a proper set up on it out of the box and he obviously knows what to do in terms of set up, so all good. Looks good. Sound is subjective to each person, but I suspect through a decent amp it will sound good for "the price point" (I hate that term, btw)... so enjoy it... One note... and purely a personal thing... I have been know to get an emory board that my ex-wife used on her nails and just run it across the fret ends rather than removing the neck. Just follow the angle of the fret and don't scratch up the wood. A few swipes with the emory board and you're good to go.... enjoy playing. (and yes, I was noticing this was 2019 when the video was made.). Have a great one.

I bought this bass twice. The first one I gave to my nephew after upgrading to an Ibanez S400E, then bought the Ibanez Affirma, which is the best I’ve played. I just bought another Mikro because it was so much fun to play. Out of the box the neck and action were dead on. After putting on flats, it only needed a bit of intonation adjustment. Even though I have $500 and $1500 alternatives, I still always pick up the Mikro.
@lar57jsy
@lar57jsy 3 жыл бұрын
WARNING: My pal just bought one and although it plays great and good tone, but the intonation isn't right because the bridge pieces sit at least a quarter inch too far forward and the adjustment screws/springs are too long to allow it to be adjusted back far enough to bring it into proper intonation. So just confirm the intonation with a tuner before you lay your cash/card down on one. I ordered one for myself too, and when mine came in, it was fine. Not sure if the Long & McQuade tech adjusted it before I got it, but...mine was fine.

Mine was easy to intonate. Only the B and G were off a bit. I used my Line 6 Pod Go tuner which is very accurate.

It wouldn't hurt to adjust the trussrod-plenty of instructions on how to do that on line. Yes you might need an Allen key but that is usually delivered with the bass. If not, hardware store ones are ok, get a set and try. The dead spots in the first frets are totally truss rod related do not go for a fret levelling before adjusting the truusod, please! It is natural for the neck to bow especially when you are transporting it, changes in humidity etc. PS. Did not see the shim business, yes that totally had to go.

Gallien Krueger is a revered brand in the industry. It's one of the best. Your neck needs a setup, and normally someone wouldn't play or demo a bass that hasn't been set up properly. A good local guitar tech can make that little bass sound awesome. You may not realize it but you have a fantastic setup between the amp and guitar. I hope you get the thing properly set up.
