In this video I introduce my new car to the channel, a Lotus Elise S1.
I talk about the car and its condition, take you for a drive to give you an idea of what they are like and also highlight what my plans are for it.
I have been a long time fan of the Lotus Elise and have always wanted one. so this one seemed like a good place to start for a performance car.

I’ve had a 160 for a couple of years now and I love it. It’s been very reliable and I have done some big trips like 700ml to the lakes and back in one weekend - You have to pack light though!

Good on you Olly. Ive got the series 2 in black with a Larini exhaust among other things, had it 3 yrs and still loving it. Enjoy the noise bangs and rattles, if you dont get them theres something wrong with it.

Great cars i had a Series 1 for 5 years then went onto a Series 2 which i had for the next 12 years...they really are an amazing driving experience, Much preferred the S2 myself though and far ness niggles with it, Enjoy your crackin little motor Olly

Is it a genuine Sport 135? Looks like it. IMHO the 135 goes so much better than the standard 118 BHP car - I’ve owned both cars. The difference is v significant & many say that the power is even more accessible & usable than the 160 & definitely more than the 111S VVC that relied on higher revs for peak power. Allon White seem to be the best re-trimmers and will reupholster the sill pads to suit, but I think the leather on yours could be repaired via a leather restorer with plastic leather etc. Interestingly, some cars sill covers wear on the leather section only where feet scuff them, but others wear on the Keprotech section like yours. It comes down to the size of the driver and the method of how they ingress/exit the car. Corbeau in Hastings, hopefully will be able to repair the seats. Your car looks like it may have an aluminium boot lid which wasn’t standard on the Sport 135 & the car looks like it would have had a stereo with the RFK option because of the dash DIN hole & the boot lid aerial bung. The exhaust sounds like the OEM Janspeeed but I could be wrong. Enjoy.

Yes it is a 135 (good spot), thank you for taking the time to comment the information. When I was doing my research it was quite difficult to find out a lot of the info. Think because the internet wasn’t fully established when it came out. The short gear ratios and torque of the 135 seem to set it apart from the others. (Just going from people’s descriptions of useable power) It is an aluminium bootlid. I could be wrong but I believe these were changed to fibreglass when the 111s was released due to space needed for the vvc hump so would make sense for it to be aluminium. Thank you for the info about janspeed. Couldn’t work out if these came as standard or were aftermarket. I believe the back box may have been changed but need to have a look.

Wrong wheels for a 135, those are the AWI, used until circa 99. 135’s are highly sort after like the111’s. Enjoy it. Got my B&C 160 in 2003, emigrated to aus in 2004, brought the car with us. Originally from Darlington.

The 111s with the vvc has more power low down AND more peak power higher up, thanks to the (very) clever variable timing…
