I bought a 2022 Yamaha MT 07 abs new. After my First Ride review and first impression to see if it’s still worth owning in 2024 vs the Triumph Trident 660, Ktm 790 duke, Honda Hornet cb750 or 650, Kawasaki z650, Suzuki GSX-8S or GSX-8R. I’ve have had a Vstrom 650, Street triple 660, tracer 900 gt, triumph tiger 1050 abs and my wife’s SV650. I almost got a Tracer 9 gt plus + but for 3x the money and all the weight gain, all those electronics and over powered engine for Japanese roads, it’s not worth it. And there is just something about simple brakes, simple suspension, and cable throttle. I’ve add cruise control from MCcruise to have a bit of luxury. I wasn’t going to get a bigger, more expensive, less useable bike just for cruise control, I also like veridian cruise and will look at them for a ride by wire bike I’m concidering. The bike has a euro 5 ZARD exhaust muffler that is plenty loud without being as obnoxious as sc project or arrow and passes road inspection like leo vince to be street legal here in Japan. 車検okマフラーオーケー. I’ve added ebc double-h sintered break pads that were definitely worth it. It has kyb kayaba suspension for the rear shock and hyperpro street box with the progressive front fork spring for a slip easy install in cartridge kit on a budget. Adjustable levers, rear sets, handgrards, and bar end mirrors were nice littles add-ons. And basic amazon case covers, axle sliders, dayton frame sliders, and custom tayler 33 reflective rim tape all in black and gold for protection. And of course my micro mini blinkers and siquential leds in the Rear with a nice tail tidy that was much cheaper than a brand like Yoshura or akrapovic. I’ve aslo had a bagster comfort seat, that I had to sell and now like the oem comfortseat but would love the Corbin or sargent seats
This may still be the best light weight naked bike for the money.

This makes a great daily rider as well as touring, there is a lot they don’t tell you when looking at big first rides and reviews. Do you need upside down forks? Do you need traction control and power modes on a bike of this size? Do midsized small motorcycles tour well with the best mods for your bike? Riding a motorbike at night or all day doesn’t have to be a crazy expensive top of the line touring luxury, budget works great and will save money for you to get your favorite mods. For stunts, track days, and a brutal sounding engine with plenty of torque, this is hard to beat. All the features you need for dank wheelies, stoppies, and even drifting. A very usable stunt bike.

@@KairyuRider yeah, MT does everything, with some additions... I'll add heated grips as well, cruise control (if your implementation is good 😊), those Yamaha plus blinkers for additional visibility (wondering what do you think of those), touring windshield from Yamaha (probably AliExpress copy, as I have Puig high one but it creates some turbulent wind on my helmet), Zard exhaust is on the way, some yellow stickers, Yamaha comfort seat (wondering what you think about that as well). I ride lots with my gf and she likes her comfort...it's just, for long trips, we need more comfort from the seat.

With v twins the engine pulses forward and back in direction of cylinders, one towards the roders crotch, the other away. With this parameter twin it's up and down, always up and away from the riders. The vowing causes a forward backward sensation, sv and vstrom are the smoothest I kn9w, and it's better in higher rpm, not bad down low. The way 270° Cranston work is that nothing is stopped all the way down, or up at the same time, and the momentum is pulsing forward with the bike. I prefer the feeling of the sv when riding Sporty, but 270° twins rev a bit better, weigh less, and are very smooth for long trips. (My rides being between 6-14hr days)

I rode the hornet and the MT-07 back-to-back on the same day, and I was shocked at how much more fun i had on the hornet, and how much more confidence it gave me. First few seconds of this video kinda makes everything clear :D Many reviews are out by now. I don't think i've seen one where someone's saying they would pick MT-07 over GSX-8S, except from purely financial reasons. MT-07 is barebones and cheap in comparison to Suzuki and the GSX-8S is not a spreadsheet bike, everyone's saying you don't feel the weight. Would go for the Suzuki any time of the day, but then again i'm not biased and i don't care about brands.

Loved the content. About your comment on the llooks on the Honda hornet, yeah. I agree. Its a bit out there. But the MT series has been out there for a while and it hasn’t won any beauty pageants yet😂. So i guess they kinda grow on their owners after a while 😅. About the discount you mentioned you got as a yamaha employee, i would say good call there 🎉. But in the open market where folk like me are not privy to such perks, the honda factory price just makes it too attracting to ignore. Here in the Germany atleast they have priced it at 7890€. Vs mt 07 @ 8374€ and gsx-8s @ 8900€. An offering like that from one of the big 3 that are big on reliability that undercuts the other two so much is just difficult to ignore. But i dnno man. I am considering an upgrade myself, i dont know which to choose. If i take the hornet i feel like the money i save, i buy some stuff later on when parts become available slowly. Also, as time passes, prices only go up. Also, congrats on soon to become a dad. 🎉🎉

If I wasn't in such a challenging financial situation and didn't have the employee discount, I'd probably be waiting for the red and white honda and buying a universal round headlight. But the biggest thing for me was the aftermarket cruise I put on my mt last week which won't be a thing for the honda or suzuki in the forseable future. Because the oem thinks they will trick us into buying a bigger bike we won't like just for cruise.

Disclosure states why. Understandable if you're a Yamaha fanboy. Yamaha are excellence at everything they do. I currently own many of their musical instruments, electric and acoustic guitars, bass, keyboard, and would have bought their acoustic drum kit had the Stage Birch Custom supply been available during COVID. I ended up with Pearl. So I like all the brands having have owned multiple examples of all four Japanese brands over the years, plus Europeans. But of those three, although I think they are all decent, I lean towards Suzuki's GSX-8S. Self disclosure,. Over the years I have found myself a Suzuki fanboy through my purpose and purchase pattern. Having been reen riding contiguously and survived doing so for almost 50 years now (1974 through 2023), I am currently considering a new bike in this class. Gonna' ride them all before I choose though. Kind of a back to the future choice for me though really. I still own a couple of Suzuki rapiers, but now need something less single purposed. Parallel twins are it for this decade -which will be my motocyling finale. Started on a parallel twin. Will end on a parallel twin.

I think the MT is more roomy for a bigger rider but neither is a touring bike. The sv feels better made and the MT feels cheap. The biggest differences would be A,the sv is a better sport bike while MT is a more holagan bike, but with. Few mods MT. Is still a sport bike. B, maybe it's because the sv let's me push it harder, but I can over heat the sv brakes faster than the MT. But better brake pads are not expensive and some thing I'm doing tot he MT anyways

I'm back and forth on the hornet. When I started riding only 13 years ago, mid was 600-650. Honda and suzuki are trying to win with a 750 and 800... by that logic in 5 years we will all say the mt09 is the best middle bike. And beginners told not to go for a 650 because they can't hold up. As of right now, a 2020mt09sp is cheaper used than the hornet, why not say that's the best middle bike?😅

I bought one of these at a YSP dealer late last year - he told me they'd flat out refuse to service it if I put an aftermarket exhaust (with no CAT) on it - strangest thing ever. I know it's illegal in Japan / grey area and that it will fail Shaken, but still I imagine most just put them on and put on a CAT exhaust for shaken? Would like your thoughts on this? Needless to say I'll go to another YSP dealer in the network when the time comes. Just odd - sounds so much better with aftermarket exhaust on it.
@KairyuRider
@KairyuRider Жыл бұрын
I know we service bikes with legal exhausts. But without the cat you've lowered the back pressure so much it's possible to damage the engine. We don't want responsibility for it breaking in our shop. And we service many bikes a day in a closed space so if they don't have a cat, we will slowly poison ourselves while running it in that tight space. As of this your police can stop you for an illegal exhaust and mechanics can't legally put them on or take them off a shaken bike. We can only do road legal survice and track bikes with no plate or shaken

Thanks for the reply mate. I haven’t been able to find many legal aftermarket exhausts for the MT07 - Akrapovic has one but it’s rather pricey and still sounds dull. Would like to hear your suggestions on legal alternatives 🙏🙏 which one did you order? The aftermarket exhausts are very popular overseas / also used as preference when on track bike MT07s. As long as you get a tune I Would not expect it to harm the engine. They sell them for track use as well via YSP - why would they do that if it broke the engine?

@dev8546 very similar. My mt Tends to be 24km/l on average but I ride hard and fast. And has a pipe(See my zard video) Sv got 27 average. Stock pipes. Even when riding hard it alwasdis better by atleast 2km/l If my goal was best fuel, sv got 36km/l at 70kmh. Mt can get 34.5km/l. In city, sv got 20, mt gets 18.6 But remember mt has a pipe. That could effect it. But if this is a top priority for you, euro 5 sv, stock exhaust will be best

@dev8546 you'll never be disappointed in an sv. Plus, if you wanna do an exhaust, mt needs a full system, which is expensive. Sv, you can just change the end can with something cheap off Amazon for sound. Keep the stock headers and cat.

@@KairyuRider Ouch! I know it isnt available in the US, but didnt know the Tracer 7 wasn't sold in Japan! And neither that is is a french model (Im getting one in Spain). Such a shame, I think it could fit very well in so many other markets, to not feel oneself limited to a Tracer 9 when somebody looks for a more confortable version of a naked bike. Will have a look at that video! (I follow you since the Sv650 videos, as back then I was considering one) Edit. The 8S isn't even out yet... It will feature more power, tech and options than the MT07. I've ridden the MT07 a lot, but that new 8S is on my radar big time. OEM quick shifter, color TFT, luggage options, flat plane motor, classic suzuki comfort and in my opinion looks better. This is coming from somebody that works where we sell Yamaha, Honda, Indian, BMW, Kawasaki and more. I've spend hundreds of miles on the MT07/09 and love them, but in the twin market the 8S is going to do well and I'd most likely take it over the ugly and somewhat cheaply made 07.
@KairyuRider

No doubt it will have a better fit an finish. Yamahas are more than just a little cheaply made. Yamaha weighs significantly less and no tech. No tech is good or bad, depends on the rider. But abs literally saved my life I'm my ride home yesterday so.... some tech 😅

If you ad the quick shifter to the honda and adjustable suspended, you get pretty close to the suzuki in price where those are standard. Plus suzuki makes some intense low end torque compared to the rest. The real disappointment is that the ktm750 is back and seeing some issues on the launch of the 890 adv, ktm has done nothing for reliability. If ktm took 1 years RND and put it into reliability, we would all uy nothing else.... Bit of I didn't have the employee discount. Honda is probably the winner. But not in looks

Tracer 7 won't come to japan either. Yamaha France makes that bike like they did the original tenere and xsr 700. And the can be some "quality issues" in the French factory. Yamaha will only sell bike made in Japan to the none eu market. We had to wait for the tenere because they had to see it succeed, then biuld a factory here. The tracer 7 will likely eat into mt07 sales so they don't wanna invest. Tracer 7 has always been the perfect bike for me, but I have a video about japanese bikes not sold in Japan if you wanna go see that
