Love it. As a carpenter in the UK I would advise protecting it from the elements. If you're wanting it to last 10/15yrs then I'd throw a cover over it or even stick it under an oak frame like you've got. 👍🏻

I just got hired at a sauna and we have a cold plunge as well. Within the last two weeks I have probably put 11 hours in the sauna w/ the 15 mins of cold plunge a day and I have never felt better.

My wife and I built ours in about 3 hours. For a base I built a simple treated wood deck prior to sauna kit delivery. Then had an electrician hardwire the 220 which did cost an extra grand.

Craig your strength is quite something. I'm new to CrossFit and i struggle with the WOD's as i am from a triathlon background. My aerobic is good and on the machines i can crush the calories but moving weight is where my down fall is. I'm looking at doing 5x5 progression for the winter months to get stronger and move the weight more at aerobic as opposed to getting to max HRM and having a rest

I built my own a few years ago from a cheap load of Siberian larch and some big left over slates and lead. Since then it's become a constant process of refinement. Last upgrade was to the sound system and smart bulbs behind salt blocks for the lighting. It's one of those things you can go on for ever sanding, rounding and coating with sauna paraffin. Those barrel saunas look decent enough though if you don't want the hassle. Cedar is not cheap and should last a long time.
@BFVsnypEz4 ай бұрын
Barrel saunas give the best steams, the steams spiral inside of it, instead of just rising to the ceiling.
@cluelesscapitalgroup2 жыл бұрын
Cold exposure in the UK isn't hard. Wim Hof has pioneered this in the Western world and it's as simple as dialing the shower down to cold when you've had your morning wash. Start with 15 seconds a day full cold, increase to 30 after a week and keep building until you're at 2 mins a day. It's tough but I promise you will never regret doing it once you're out. Turbo mood booster. Glad I joined a globo gym in addition to my CrossFit box as they have 2 x great saunas in there I can get exposure to most days. Good luck going forward and remember...go to the cold or the cold will come to you. Nothing worth doing is easy, which is why most don't do it.

With the sauna being electric not with a wood stowe, you might want to look into solar panels. Also, look up bath brooms, although, I don't know if they are suggested in electric saunas. Gathering snow in one place or putting up a large water container would also add to sauna benefits with temperature contrasts.

Now you need to get a hot tub next to it and you will be all set. Also, have you thought about getting solar panels installed? That will greatly reduce the energy cost per year. My friend put panels on his house and his bill was cut in half.

would take a big amount of solar panels and a battery.. would take a long time to pay off.

Web say elec costs for 8Kw heater is £1.60 for an hour . You could improve insulation by adding polystyrene Celtex to unseen area of barrel or if you put Shingles/tiles on roof put foil blanket insulation under these. What thickness are interlocking cedar planks as thinking of buying and gauging the quality of various suppliers ? Thanks

The saunas the best, the cold water after is so refreshing. I keep a large livestock tub outside and take a 1-3 minute Wim Hoff like soak afterwards. Sleep like the dead afterwards. As a older “athlete” it helps with recovery as well. Cheers!
@bd117772 жыл бұрын
The benefits of sauna have been shown to be replicated through the use of a hot bath. Might not be everyone's preference but definitely a more affordable option. Plus you can add magnesium salts which will absorb transdermally for that additional muscle recovery benefits

Add solar panels to cover the Sauna utility bill, and the same solar panels can help the entire house (laundry and hot water tank). I wish my backyard was large enough for that sauna, maybe my front driveway? Car can park on the road. Cheers

i keep hearing this is the comments but how many solar panels are needed to run a 240v heater? and battery, and materials and install.. how much does that cost? most people i know use them at night, during the winter.
