This is literally just the natural evolution of the FEAR strategy. It’s not a rat, there’s no focus sash, but it’s still FEAR. The same strategy (FEAR) is used with Sawk and Pain Split Nosepass. It’s all FEAR strat.

@@thefireninja7601 that's not true, the Aron has to actually land the Endeavor to heal up so just doubling it will do the trick, and given that it's a level 1 Aron, it's speed is gonna be well... yea both of your pokemon should be moving before Aron. Also while you could say "you have to waste an entire turn doubling a level 1 pokemon.. level 1 or not it's still 1/4 of their team, just because they chose to take a level 1 Aron instead of a level 50 proper competitive mon doesnt make it any less a part of their team. This is basically a "once off Gimmick strat" where if your opponent doesnt know the Gimmick, they will very likely fall victim to it, and it's so niche that the odds of them not knowing what's going on til it happens is reasonably high.

That is a bad idea. FEAR strats can be easily countered and very predictable. You can remove shell bell by knockoff, stall it out with toxic/burn, PP stall endeavor, set up hazards to nullify sturdy/sash, whirlwind/roar it away, and use that opportunity to set up on it by a ghost type which are immune to endeavor.

Okay so don’t swing on Aron. Easy.

You would be surprised how many teams dont have ghost, or dont have multi-hit moves. I did a similar strat with Nosepass and so long as you play smart and use the rest of your team intelligently you can find a lot of success. Plus, this type of strat (called F.E.A.R.) is usually meant as a hard counter against the popular sweepers which almost never carry status moves that dont raise their own stats. Your only goal with them is usually to get 1 quick K.O. and then sac them for a clean switch.

It stands for Focus sash, Endeavor, quick Attack, Rattata because it was the first popular set for doing this, but any level 1 mon doing something similar is still called FEAR. Its an old old strat, and very effective as a sweeper counter.

And while yes doubling is what you have to do into it, that means that its partner effectively has a free turn of setup that cannot be ignored. For Nasty Plot or Swords Dance, that might be all that's necessary to sweep.

This was back when Prankster moves still worked on Dark types. Paralysis is very unfortunate when dealing with this combo. 😅 Not to mention, I knew Wolfe was the world's runner up in 2012, and it was also my first event. That combination had my heart racing, so I was not making my best plays at all. It was a great set, and I'm so happy I got to play such an incredible player in a high level event!

You can, but if you double up on a level 1 mon, you allow the partner pokemon to set up (an example being scizor getting a swords dance) and if a set up sweeper gets set up because of doubling the level 1, it’s a lose-lose scenario for the one that doubled into it
