I built a bird bathing pond in the forest. I share the process of how I converted this empty area, into a wildlife bathing pond with multiple pools and small waterfalls. Incredible transformation!

Don't bother with the expensive pond foam - it's identical to normal expanding foam, it's just black. Home Depot has black spray foam, I use that. It's not water proof, it just helps direct water, so definitely use the cheaper option next time. And yes, keeping that cheaply made flex hose inside the liner is best. If I had to guess, it's a 20ft roll from Canadian Tire. It will become brittle and crack anywhere exposed to the sun. Mine did it right at the pump connection, which was the deepest, so not sure they are made to last more than 2 seasons. And it turned out gorgeous!! Ha, don't worry, the 'pros' wing it all the time. Turned out great!

Simply amazing! I have redone mine several times trying to get it right. I have come to the conclusion that the wildlife doesn’t care. I highly recommend adding some plant life to eat up the algae that will accumulate. I had to dig out a deeper section at the lower end of mine to put potted water plants in it and it made a huge difference in the quality of my water, but I’m sure you already know that :)

Thanks so much for the suggestions! Searching some of the ponds and wet areas we have for plant life to add, is on my to-do list! Just have to find some species that aren't too aggressive that will puncture the liner.

That reminds me of a question I had while watching this. I've only ever had long-term success with a glass birdbath that's easy to clean, since every other birdbath I've experimented with seemed to need a lot of frequent cleaning to get rid of algae, dirt, fallen leaves, etc. Especially when there were loose river rocks in the birdbath. I was scrubbing off those loose stones every weekend, and I have a decent solar-powered pump with a filter system. So how do you keep the birdbath clean enough for birds to keep using it?
@NatureFilmsByJohnKha
@NatureFilmsByJohnKha 9 ай бұрын
@@Cyssane Good question! There's so many variables that can make it challenging! Keep the bird bath out of the sun and in the shade to minimise algae growth and also copper pieces helps too, such as old copper coins. I use river stones for their smooth surface and avoid porous stones, I do stick with smooth surfaced bird baths too as they're easier to clean. I have a dedicated brush and some vinegar nearby if I need a good clean! Glass can get heavy so I have switched to hard UV protected plastic of late

Good to see you getting it done as per your current skills - perfection is so over-rated and often leads to nothing being finished! Thanks from the UK.

I think your pond looks amazing! Thanks for sharing it! I'm sure the animals don't mind a bit of Frakensteining at all. 🙂 And it works! Thank you for caring for all the wild creatures out there. I enjoyed seeing them at the ponds, big and small! We lived in an old farmhouse once, with a sump pump in the basement. It naturally created a little stream outside our kitchen window. It never froze over in the winter either, and sometimes was snow covered, but the water free flowed just the same. The birds used it to both drink and bathe, and we called it 'Bird River'. I miss that little peak at nature that it gave us all year around. Oh, and one time we watched a little chipmonk crawl up into the hose the water flowed out of. As we watched, worried if he'd be ok, the sump kicked on and out whoosed the little guy, much like he was on a water slide at Disney. He was fine, if a bit startled, and we had a great giggle at him. After that though, we put a piece of screening over the end, to avoid any misshaps in the future.

Haha, the chipmunk experienced it's first water slide! And wow that sounds like a great setup. I can see why it attracted so many birds!

Great job. I love that you're willing to experiment, take chances, and learn along the way. I also like how you are considerate of other animals under the rocks and living around your property. What you've learned here will help you in other new projects. I can't wait to see how this beautiful new area gets used. I bet some of the ways will surprise you.

Wow. The footage of birds bathing in slow motion looks so cool. It is just such a chill chanel tbh. When the video comes out I can just sit and watch some cool cute animals being talked about by a really chill and calm voice.
