Badluck especially had sworn to themself that this was going to be their last drop; as their callsign suggests, none of their operations went smoothly. When the rest of their squad left them for dead, that sealed for the two of them that if the UNSC didn't care about them, they wouldn't be heading home. The only reason they took any time at all to recruit was because they were inclined to just try their luck with the outlanders.

I do like seeing the cruel pirates having a soft spot for children.

You might want to research cryptosleep caskets. We would't want a repeat of the unfortunate and completely unavoidable fate that befell a former certain scientist crew member when we're ready to jump planets after all.

Backstory of Badluck, the reason for the nickname: as a civilian badluck has been kidnapped by covenant and after a few weeks the ship he was on was attacked by the flood infected ship which resulted in chaos during which he escaped. After drifting for a few more days he was found by pirates which few hours later were attacked by UNSC. The chaine continued until he joined new pirate crew.

here's my headcanon, the Covenant new that the Empire was going to attack you so they willingly sent some grunts to protect you in order to build relations

I might be late, but something to note about SoS: dont hook normal batteries up to ship capacitor grids. Ship capacitors never zzt, because that would be quite silly in space. However, normal batteries do. And theyll discharge all power in the grid, including whatever the capacitors are holding (usually a lot).
