I love the battering ram! Though I would recommend to make the frame of it larger! The main reason battering rams with roofs like this existed was to actually provide protection to the besiegers from enemy arrow fire, rocks and other similar things, so it'd be good to maybe give your minifigs room to sit inside the ram so they don't get pelted with arrows! (Also, the padded kneecap legs, unless they were also used in avatar, look to be the ones from the french musketeer cmf! Not sure if avatar also used them, but that's where I recognize them from)

The crusader with the black cross is a Teutonic Knight (at least looks like one), and they fought in Eastern Europe, not the Levant. This is a problem that only a history nerd such as me would have, but the entire build and whatnot is really cool anyway, so it's not that big of a deal.

This is a great looking Moc, especially for such a relatively small build. I love all the minifigures and they are all quite different, while being clearly from the same faction. The detailing on the wall is a solid technique that you've showed us before and works really well for this. I think the battering ram turned out beautifully although it is absolutely not built for stability or strength. This is a common thing I see in people that build great mocs, they build for looks first and worry about structural balance and how sturdy the build is later.. At least gravity will hold it together as long as it is resting on a stable surface. As an example, I built a black Mech a few days ago (resembling the Mechwarrior style mechs a bit, with some dark yellow detailing) that is quite an intricate design. The cockpit assembly can actually move up and down, as it is hanging in a small technic 'cage', connected with a system hinge at the top. (hard to explain) Nearly all the parts can move, hinge or rotate and still have quite detailed finishing. But, if I drop this thing on the ground, the only thing that might break, are the two large autocannons on the sides of the cockpit that are connected by only one stud. They will simply fall off, to be easily re-attached. To try it out, I dropped it on the floor just now. Only the arms, (which are basically large missile pods sitting on a ratcheted hinge) clicked one spot away from the torso and a single V shaped tile fell off, as that was sticking out as the back detailing on the arm, which was were it fell on. Now this is not meant as a brag, as the build is probably less detailed, a bit more blocky and wider than a true Moc designer could have made it, but it is sturdy and will survive an encounter with my cat or my ADHD nephew without any issue. It is a different way of building for sure, certainly not better, but different. Thanks for showing us your amazing display piece, you are an inspiration to focus on my own builds in a more 'looks first' kinda way.
@Goldfyre2 ай бұрын
Yeah, i find that balancing stability and looks can be really difficult. It just goes to show how impressive the LEGO designers are because (imo) it's a lot easier to make something look pretty than it is to make it strong. That's why Edgeofbricks MOCs are some of my favorites. His look really nice but also feel like they won't fall apart if you breath on them.
@pinobluevogel64582 ай бұрын
@@Goldfyre Agreed. Though I don't think what you made is incredibly unstable, I think it should be modifiable into something more sturdy for sure, at least some connection to the roof of the battering ram isn't impossible to make. The question is: is it really needed? As long as you dont have a cat, the answer probably is no ;D

I like the approach of the official Lion Knight Castle where masonry bricks add enough to break up the texture, and windows and other features add the rest of the detail. I do like the broken down wall. I wonder if it could have been secured to the towers with technic pins and pin hole bricks to hold it in place.
