This Tensegrity Table was a lot of fun to build. I built a prototype first to understand how I could hide all of the connections and also make the cables adjustable. The materials are inexpensive and available at any Big Box store.

Putting the tensioners on the underside is a genius move. I was trying to figure out how to do the tensioning on the bottom, but didn't want to have tall feet. This is the move! Thanks.

Jeff, did you attend government public schools? I have not seen the table before but the concepts of tension and compression were explained to me in the fourth grade by Irish Sacred Heart nuns at the Catholic school I attended. Very simple and easy to understand.

@@RonMulletWoodwork Ah c’mon. It WILL be great fun 😄. I have a pair of very elegant, white, classic, Bang & Olufsen Beoplay S3 pentagonal speakers that will look fantastic on top of a taller (18”) version of your tensegrity table with a smaller pentagon instead of square top and base in white. I will design it and send it to you for your consideration. 👍

First time ive seen the tensioning set up on the underside to adjust the cables, thats very clever. Ive also wanted to use steel wire but am worried that it might end up requiring rework as a result of the expansion and contraction of the cable as the temperature changes over the year. Thinking particularly as it gets into winter and the steel shrinks it might put too much pressure on the uprights and snap them. Has your table had any issue's?
@RonMulletWoodwork
@RonMulletWoodwork Ай бұрын
I have never had a problem with the cables. I would advise making the "legs" a little wider so the Dovetails can be longer.

Hi Ron, Great video!. My son and I have roughed out a round version of this table for a Boy Scouts project (sans glass top). I do have a question. I'm struggling with the dovetail jig. Any hints or steps to make that Jig ? I'm coming up too loose/small.
@RonMulletWoodwork
@RonMulletWoodwork 7 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching. I would instead suggest using a dado on the round top and bottem and screw and glue it to the legs. Use a router with 2 boards clamped in place as a guide.
