I imagine that the form you get in Heaven is the form that you want most, on top of reflecting how you lived and died. Which just means that 99% of humans in the Hellaverse are secret furries. Although, given Vivsie also made Zoophobia, that doesn’t surprise me.

A little thing that adds to the "Alastor is under Lilith's contract" headcanon is that, in the pilot, Alastor shows up at the Hotel literally seconds after Charlie got finished sending a voice mail to Lilith asking for help. 👀

So, one thing I think might be the case, regarding the masks. In the heaven Embassy, they have these gargoyle-esque statues coming out of the walls toward the back, but they're basically just exorcist angels. I think they're wearing those to look like gargoyles, since gargoyles on cathedrals were supposed to drive away evil spirits. That's just my own theory, though. So, no idea if that will be the canon reason!

Hypothesis: souls are sending themselves where they end up. Heaven has good people who had faith in heaven’s forgiveness of their faults, and narcissistic zealots sure of their own righteousness. Hell has monsters who knew they were horrible and just embraced it as a path to power, and people consumed by guilt or self-loathing. The system isn’t just because it’s not based on external judgment at all. It’s completely self-directed for better and worse.

The theory I've been having is that God/The Creator/whatever does actually exist in this universe, but they're more of a semi-benevolent eldritch being that isn't really understandable by others. Even Sera, being the head Seraphim and therefore the one who supposedly communicates with the Creator Being, can only interpret their actions rather than speak with them directly (which is oddly kind of accurate to the Old Testament).

One thing I love about Sera is that she is seemingly the only person Adam has any respect for. She asks "are we clear" and he goes "yeah" smiling smugly as he usually does, but then IMMEDIATELY switches to "Got it" with a less joking, and more serious expression. When he's like "well that's what got me here! ... Right, Sera?" Look at his expression. It's a look of uncertainty. It's the only time he ever seems even slightly doubtful of his place in Heaven, and it's seemingly all because he's speaking to Sera about it. Then there's the big one, near the end. She says he went too far, and sure he tries to bluster his way out, but almost immediately caves and ACTUALLY APOLOGIZES TO HER. And as if all this wasn't already big enough, this is Sera we're talking about. Sera is a woman. And we're talking about ADAM. Adam, toxic masculinity and misogyny incarnate, ACTUALLY RESPECTS A WOMAN. What the hell did she DO to him?😂

I’m atheist but I love the fact that Emily fully believes in and champions her religions ideals she is only angel who embraces/touches Charlie by taking her hand She refers to the sinner souls in hell and the hell borne as people while Sera and others call them demons and the righteous anger she expresses when she defies her mentor and stands with a demon side by side to call out the hypocrisy of Heaven and the exterminators throwing their morality preaching back in their faces as corrupt and unjust “If hell is forever, then Heaven must be a lie, if angels can do whatever, and remain in the sky, the laws are shady gray, when you don’t do as you say, when you make the wretched suffer only to kill them again” brilliant.

I think there is some kind of information that being kept from Charlie. In Lucifer’s song he pulls her out of harms way by pulling her from the light and into the shadow as is he’s keeping her in the dark to protect her and here Sera says that there’s a lot that Charlie doesn’t know. Also it does seem like there was an uprising by not only what Sera said but even one of the overlords say heaven would kill all of hell if they thought of uprising as if it happened before.

I think Lilith, maybe glossed over history for Charlie about why the exterminations began. Might be they started after a singular Overlord got to Heaven and tried to harm someone, might be she was rallyinga rebellion.

Sera is not saying a soul cannot improve, she is saying that is has not been shown that a soul can be redeemed, which for them would amount to ascending to heaven. Since the proccess seem not to be heaven granting them entry manually but it happening by itself. Thus no matter how much Angel Dust improves, so far nothing indicate a soul in hell can elevate to heaven, and hell's overpopulation/uprising risk remains. So that means Adam still gets his freebie pas to exterminate as he pleases.

So, about the background stuff with them not mentioning god. I dont know if it's deliberate or coincidental, but the worldbuilding seems like it's taking parts of older sects of judeism and christianity. For example, Lilith is from an older tradition in judeism, while god being absent with the angels doing the creating as well as the day-to-day stuff coincides well with the old Gnostic sect. They haven't mentioned the Monad and Demiurge, but otherwise it fits with Gnosticism. It'd also fit perfectly with the themes of dualism that they've been weaving into the story. Again, could be a coincidence, but it fits reasonably well.

See, people mention "direct exposition" like that being bad, but I can't tell you how many times while talking with my friends we directly exposit things to each-other or ourselves just as reminders. Like literally yesterday my friend said to me "You shouldn't use that character because", and I interrupted and finished, "Because this boss is resistant to fire and all of my damage is fire".

The "uprising" they're talking about is mentioned by Charlie in her plot expo in episode 1. Lilith and Lucifer had united and empowered Hell so much that Heaven became worried about being outnumbered and overpowered. The implication is that there was no actual rebellion, just the possibility that a rebellion might succeed if it happened. I do agree it seems a stretch that Hell could actually threaten Heaven based on what we have seen though.

After watching this first season a handful ot times, and after watching reactions to it a couple dozen more times, I think the scene surrounding the second song in this episode might be my favorite moment in total. Like, there are other songs I like more, and there are other scenes that might hit harder, but the lyrics, the drama, and the composition of "you didn't know" just hits so hard, and in exactly the way I was hoping Charlie's confrontation with heaven would go down. I still get chills when I see the flames reflected in Sera's eyes, and when Charlie and Emily both start attacking the hypocrisy of heaven. It's just perfect.

A neat thing that should be noted: "If hell is forever then heaven must be a lie" is actually a real thing in theology, a known variation of "problem of evil". The question normally goes, "if god is omnipotent and good, why does evil exist?", with a following point being that God has to either be not actually omnipotent or not actually good. A known specific variation of this discourse specifically calls attention to hell's existence, which is "infinity of suffering", as it is particularly hard to justify even with usual counter arguments. There is no known god in Hazbin's universe, but the point remains.

About God. Now, this is no confirmed thing and is just the theory I had since episode 1, but I feel like God exists in a different way in the hazbin hotel universe. In the little story bit at the start of the first episode, we can hear some very curious wording. Angels "worshipped" good and "shielded" all from evil. And that line is said while we see a representations of good and evil that look pretty interesting. Good is pure white and has a closed eye with some eyelashes, while evil has pure red eyes and a giant smile. And later in the story, evil "finds" its way into Earth. Not born out of the act of disobedience, it is like it existed before and only after free will became a thing could get into Earth. So, I think instead of God and the Devil, we have literal Good and Evil, which are much less understandable and act more as forces rather than people. If these forces are at a constant battle for control, it could explain why heaven even had to send the exterminators in the first place. They're not all powerful (which would be the case if there was only one god), and Evil and Hell might really win. This would also explain why the sinners' power depends on their evilness and their thirst for power, because hell is not a prison, but a place that RUNS on evil and encourages it whenever possible. That seems to be the role of the deadly sins, not only do they represent their sin, but also encourage it in certain ways. And the red liquid that we see dripping from certain character's mouths might also be related to hell, to Evil, trying to promote itself. The only characters that I think we saw have it is Val, Vox, and Alastor (in the end of Stayed Gone), and it seems to appear specifically when they are full of malice (val threatening angel in this episode, vox had it while saying some awful things to sir pentious in ep2, and alastor threatening vox at the end of the song). I think that liquid may be a literal drug that makes them feel euphoric and makes them thirst for moments like those. This might also explain why hellborn even exist? I don't think lucifer or any of the angels would have created them, but evil itself, making beings that basically run hell(producing medicine, money, "toys", etc.) could make some sense. This could also mean judgement be an act of Good and Evil deciding which person would fit them or whichever person they have more control over or something. I do feel like I'm looking a bit too much into this, but theorizing is fun and i hope this was interesting to read and somewhat understandable

Something was pointed out that I thought was interesting about Angel Dust. Mainly the inflections of his voice and how deliberate they seem to be. I.E. when he speaks in that high pitched, flirty tone. Thats Angel Dust, or the persona he wants people to see. But when his tone lowers, he stops his pretension and stops being Angel Dust, and in those moments we're seeing the real Anthony. So when he told Charlie off in Vals studio. That was Anthony trying to protect her from Val, and just now when he told Val off in the club. That was Anthony coming out again, fully ready to throw down if he had to.

In regards to Angel Dust's name: imagine someone (probably Husk) gets so close to him that even "Anthony" feels too formal. I live for the day we hear someone call him "Tony"

I don’t think people understand Cherri Bomb’s character-- She’s an enabler because both she and Angel most likely used drugs/sex in order to get cope with their trauma (or any problems thrown to them) This was always her character, we just didn’t see it completely but we do see a bit of it in the pilot. Her simply making Angel tag along in her, nor does she tell him not to stick around during the turf war with Sir Penthouse. She isn’t a bad friend per say, she just doesn’t have a healthy way of coping yet. (I’m also pretty sure she doesn’t know Angel is trying to get redeemed) She’s literally mirroring Angel’s unhealthy way of coping. I’m sure we’ll see more of her and why she’s the way she is, the same way we did with Angel.

I have a theory that perhaps maybe Adam is so hateful towards sinners probably because of his sons. Some of Adams first couple of kids were also the first victim of murder, and first perpetrator of murder. Perhaps what cain did to his brother was the first kill in history and death wasnt accounted for yet, so Able experinced true death and ceased to be. And that might be part of the reason why he is so bitter. On top of lilith and eve leaving him for sin.

So therefore there is no evidence in Demonic ascension/redemption to Heaven.

Way I think of the Angel/Anthony thing... it's his choice and not anyone else's. The moment he calls himself that, I'm all aboard the Anthony train... maybe not the best way to word that last bit... lol

I think that, at the moment, calling the character Angel or Angeldust is probably the most respectful thing to do, as that is the name that he answers to, hasn't corrected anyone on, and hasn't told anyone about his "real" name being Anthony. From what I can tell, the reason he signed Valentino's contract as "Anthony" has to do with the nature of demonic contracts and not a person's preferred name. Angeldust died as Anthony, and therefore that name has power over him. Now, perhaps part of his regaining his freedom might cone from reclaiming his living name and the power inherent in it, or conversley it might include him abandoning that name altogether, forging a new identity for himself such that that name no longer has power over him. It could go a nunber of ways. However, the point is that Angel hasn't told anyone that he prefers to be called Anthony, and instead he answers to Angel or Angeldust without or complaint. Until he says otherwise, I think using the name he currently answers to is the most respectful thing to do.

one theory that I haven't seen be passed around but I personally subscribe to is that there were multiple factors to the start of the exterminations because while Adam wanting the exterminations because he's salty that Lucifer stole both of the women he viewed as his (and also to maintain/gain power and relevance as the leader of the Angelic Armies because if not for the exterminations why would heaven literally paradise need an army) that doesn't really explain why Sera would allow them. I know that it says in the intro to the first ep that Lilith empowered the other demons with her voice and heaven was threatened by their numbers and that makes a fair bit of sense but frankly I think there was a third factor I think that Emily may be Lucifer and Lilith's (or possibly even Lucifer and Eve's) child that they had BEFORE Charlie who Lucifer tried to raise with good heavenly morals and was killed and subsequently redeemed and brought to Heaven but has no memory of this for some reason. This would explain why Lilith seemed to be trying to keep Charlie from Lucifer and why Lucifer said "I've tried this all before my dreams were too hard to defend". Hell if Emily was killed by someone from heaven say for example a pissed off jealous Adam (or it was framed to look that way) then that could have been what sparked Lilith to actually switch from simply empowering other demons to an outright uprising. also another thing I noticed while looking back at the intro to the first episode is that we actually SEE character depictions for GOOD and EVIL so they might be more than just semi-ambiguous concepts...

Angel Dust uses Angel as his preferred name to folks in the hotel. Plus Anthony is his TRUE name and using that name grants you power over him. hence why his contract with Valentino is binding.

Considering "flesh" in the afterlife is an illusion. More like raiment we chose to wear, or a reflection of the nature of our souls. Hence why everyone in Heaven is "hot": it is spiritual beauty.

One thing the masks could also be for is limiting guilt. There have been studies done that show that when people do something bad with a mask on or something to hide their identity, they naturally feel less bad about it. Something about it creates a degree of separation in your mind between them and the person doing the crime. And the more you associate the bad things you do with the mask you wear, the less guilt you personally feel. "I didn't kill those people, the person wearing the mask did." It's ultimately a flimsy defense, but people already convince themselves of things they shouldn't cuz of less. God knows no small amount of people who are homophobic are that way cuz "it's bad", and all they have to go on for it being bad is "so and so said so."

24:04 The idea of people having different forms in heaven and hell is something that's been stated in past livestreams, But I think the people you've seen comment this were a little confused. The idea is if somebody were to die and become an angel/ demon the form they would take would be different depending on what they would become. It's been theorized that if an angel were to fall they would get a different form and vice versa. Just being in hell or heaven wouldn't really do it.

I wouldn’t say Lucifer tried to “stick it to the man” in either this or the old stories. More like “I’m gonna do it better”, and less “What you’re doing is wrong, and I’m going to resist your rule.”

First, I'm quite curious as to what Nifty's "collection" actually is. Indicates it is not the first time she has ripped off a piece of cloth or fur from someone she does not really know. Also, does she have a piece from Alestor as well? We saw how he reacted when Sir Pentious tore Alestor's suit, and comment on how it must have been "quite important" to Pentious. Second, for some reason, the close up on Charlie's eyes when the dramatic sting plays always makes me think of Dr. Seuss. I think between the shape of Charlie's nose, and the color of her eyes, it reminds me of The Grinch and the Whos.
