The great tragedy of Shaq Fu is that the graphics are actually gorgeous, just completely unfit for purpose. If they developers actually knew how to make a fighting game, it could have been a cult classic.

Shaq Fu was made by Delphine, who mostly did rotoscoped cinematic platformers games. Another World and Flashback, for instance. So it makes sense that they'd be good at animation, since those games are both pretty good.

Also, the music is mostly actually really good. Shaq Fu is kind of a guilty pleasure of mine since the premise is ridiculous, the animations are actually kind of great, and as said the music is pretty good. Besides, you get to play as Shaquille O'Neal, kicking the spaghetti out of monsters in an alternate dimension.

Flanders is SF3 Gill he gets a full self rez per match, except he gets it free and does not need to worry about meter! Super busted. Also some of the other characters I remember being super lame like bumblebee man summons this little dog and just throws all this stuff, I am actually super curious to see that game now that I am older.

Definitely try them man, i think it would be hilarious to watch, lol. Definitely play Tattoo Assassins and Kasumi Ninja for sure, those "classics" cant be missed.

That Burger fatality from Tattoo Assassins is referencing killing enemies in the actual game, Burgertime. Where you walk on 4 layers of the burger and crash enemy eggs, sausages, with em. The original arcade game is pretty fun, if I'm not playing Pacman. Then Burgertime is one of the arcade games I would play.

Worst fighting game I ever played was Shadow: War of Succession for 3DO. I've yet to play anything worse. I actually bought the copy from my friend's game store and destroyed it just so he'd never accidentally sell it to someone telling them it was a decent game (he wasn't into fighters).

I feel like Shaq-Fu's more internet infamous than really being that bad. There's plenty worse out there, you don't even need to leave the SNES to find some of them.

Shaq-Fu was bad, but still not as horrible as all the trash that was on that list. Except maybe Street Fighter The Movie The Game.

I actually rented it one weekend and didn't really regret it. I remember thinking the concept seemed weird but I *really* liked Delphine's games (Out of This World, Flashback etc.), so I gave it a chance. It really is one of those cases like Bubsy where there was this oddly unanimous judgment put on it years after the fact. Shaq Fu at least didn't have the same level of aggressive hype behind it to warrant the backlash; but yeah those guys didn't really know how to make a fighting game.

Rise of the Robots is so bad it basically killed British gaming journalism, as mags that weren't bought out to give it a good review just straight up publicly blasted the ones that were for lying to their readers and killing all gamers' trust.

I remember how Rise of the Robots seemed quite cool before it came out. So on the day it did I went and bought it, and I had to save up for that. It was such a massive disappointment, it looks good (for the time) but it plays bad and then you find out you only get to play as one of the characters, and of course it's the most boring one.

The Ultraman game is so old though and I'm pretty sure it was a Genesis exclusive. It's not like it was an arcade title. It came out the same year SFII did. Not really a fair judgement. All that aside, even though Justin hadn't seen a lot of these, there are tons more that could've made this list (the SNES and Genesis had countless bad fighting game ripoffs) instead of the entries on it that weren't even fighting games. Lists by corporate entities are bad.

Based on your age (same as mine), it's surprising your not having heard of some of these heavily promoted at the time console games/arcade staples. Not a critique, just surprised. Also, how is Brutal: Paws of Fury not on their list, rather than a few of these!?

Ive played a majority of them when they came out. Not going to lie i might have logged 20 hours on ballz . it was supposed to be 3d fighting on 16bit consoles. I remember trying so hard to like it.

I had Rise of the Robots as a kid. Loved fighting games. Loved robots. What could go wrong? A whole lot, actually. It's been since I was a kid since I played, but I remember the controls being bad, the hitstun feeling more like my fist was made of plastic than steel, and Versus being just extremely unfun to deal with because P1 could only be the main character and P2 could be everyone EXCEPT the main character. If you do bad fighting games, definitely give Brutal: Paws of Fury a shot.

I think you should try Tattoo Assassins. A lot of people say that the game is trash, but I think this jank fighter is actually good. I actually played it and beat it at my arcade yesterday at my arcade-even though I had to continue a lot. Nevertheless, that game is off the hook. I believe that you should give it a shot, Justin. One more thing, there's only one thing that I don't like about the game, and it's the use of bathroom humor. That right there shows that the game absolutely has no class at all.😁😂

Lived in the middle of nowhere as a kid. Had to play whatever SNES games were available. Don't know how many hours I sank into Ultraman

The important thing to consider about Tattoo Assassins is that it was cancelled by Data East before it was even finished. IMO among other "bad" MK clones, it actually doesn't look or play that badly. Compare it to (playable but ugly) Survival Arts or (all around terrible) Shadow: War of Succession.
