@@phoenix402 in a lot of places it isn't about the materialistic value of the gift but the meaning behind it. the effort that is invested into appreciating the recipient of the gift and while we don't have the right to judge their household mannerisms, especially when so much context is missing, thebaus did a terrible job of portraying a well-meaning relationship with his parents, irregardless of whether that is true or not.

In Asia, that's most of the parents expects. Once they give birth, they need to raise their children and once their children grow up and have their job, they expect their kids to give them money or pay their expenses. It's not gonna happen once I have my kids. If they found a job, the money that they earned gotta be theirs.
