And you'd be wrong. They practiced this dance for weeks...TO THIS VERY SONG. They're not strangers that just met before this dance. They know each other quite well and have danced together for quite a while. They're in the same dance class my wife and I are in. In fact, my wife and I are there as this video is being made. This was for a dance-off competition that our dance class/studio had. Anyone in the class was welcome to enter it. The dancers you see here were in the top three. This is their final time dancing this particular dance. The other two couples also danced their dances again and the three couples were judged, and the winner of these three dances won. These two you see in this video actually came in second place. But this dance was very much rehearsed. And it was rehearsed many times. Hell, this is the 4th time alone that they did this very dance for this very competition, using this very song. The write up is just lies in order to get more views. And it worked. So don't think there's a delay because he's trying to quickly analyze her moves. That's not how real dancing works. Especially one as choreographed as this one is. (Or any of them that were done during the competition). The fact that there may be a delay in his movements is probably why they came in second place and not first.
@Fwacer Жыл бұрын
Edit 2: this guy made up the story. Keeping my original comment below. @@brucewayne2155 interesting hear this insider info! I thought it was a "mix and match" style competition where people are social dancing with random partners but it sounds like you're saying it's more like a "strictly lindy", where it's choreographed with a partner ahead of time (I am a lindy hopper and not a WCS dancer clearly haha). It certainly looks like he's responding to her made-on-the-spot variations though Edit: the "strictly lindy" category is not choreographed, and you don't know your song ahead of time. You just know your partner (so you can prepare special aerial moves, combos, etc). I got the names of the competitions mixed up

@@dilypopp If it’s not clear where lead is coming from, you’re not dancing together. I’ve partner danced plenty, and if the lead had to come from me, my partner was not a good dancer (or not a good partner). Partner dancing is lead/follow. If you can get leads coming from both sides at the same time, it’s a mess.

It can be a bit difficult if you've never seen how the other person dances so you have to try to follow all their leading queues and it isn't always easy. It looks like he probably adheres to the more old school styling of swing, and she integrates old and new, so it can cause confusion at times. That would be why he looked confused at first, though.

@@Iheartmefr I see where you're coming from. My latin coach used to yell at me for looking at my partner when I shouldn't have. "It looks like she's leading you!" he would say. Bear in mind, he and I and my partner all knew that I have a strong lead in reality. Back to the video, he looks a bit too much at her. Yet, if you watch closely, you'll see that he's initiating every movement, he's leading every step. So, my eyes are working fine... I think you just don't know what you're talking about.
@Iheartmefr Жыл бұрын
@@horacelidenbrock3905 True true- but it still applies. It looks like she's leading him and he doesn't know what to do. There were a few times where he took charge(whenever he spun her) but that was it. When I was in dancing class and ballet i'm pretty sure that that is not what a man leading looks like...or feels like. His feet follow her movements after he looks down at them. Only then when he starts getting more confident does he start taking a little bit of control.

@@Iheartmefr How do you know how it feels dancing with him? Is that you in the video? You do realise that he picked the moment when they started, don't you? And he did pretty well, because they are mostly on the phrase. Of course, it looks amateurish... but this guy can undoubtedly lead.

Actually, yall, they both showed great talent. Y'all gotta remember they've never met, danced together, or knew what song was going to play before right then. Just like it says in the caption. And you can tell by the way they start slow and watch each other to see what they can do before getting into it. For being improvised, they both did phenomenal. And she was leading a little bit but, in most partner dancing, that's the point imo. The beauty and movement of the woman matched with the sturdiness and support of the man. Especially in swing dance and very physical dances where you're going to be spinning and moving your partner.
@dajtoad1 Жыл бұрын
@@zachduncan7616 I used to freestyle every week, with people I'd never met before, with neither of us knowing what music would be playing. The guy leads. Always. Otherwise you can get conflicting signals which leaves no time for co-ordination. A good lead will, at the same time, leave room for the woman to improvise while showing by hand and body where he's going to be to take the dance forward to the next step. It's a skill and a two way conversation. But you can't both be talking at the same time.
