Man this could become huge. Competitive lightsaber fighting in an arena with prices, this is like a dream come true for a lot of people, not to mention the entertainment value of watching this.

I don't think spectators would mind paying 10 bucks for entry, especially knowing they will get a show, see star wars people, and potentially help with the prize pool costs.

You should charge $15 an entry for spectators, and make it like a badass celebration with different kinds of activities/food or discussions throughout the day, I've always wanted to go to a star wars celebration but could never afford it because of the crazy cost of going to them and me not wanting to support Disney star wars

This sounds really cool! I would like to add a suggestion though! A third division showcasing the best choreographed fight (have a maximum set number for a group like 3 or 4; gives a variety of fights to see: 1v1, 1v2, 1v3, 2v2) and have set time limit. If the venue has speakers participants could also input their own music giving a very thematic fight. Would be awesome for judges and spectators!

You should hire Nick’s fellow stuntmen from the prequels. They would be the perfect judge for this kind of competition.

You should probably get some type of security. Big events these days aren’t the safest place to be.

I think having a choreographed saber contest would be a lot better than a real fight simply because it would be more entertaining for the crowd. A real fight with sabers would be more like a super boring fencing match or people just getting bludgeoned with the things until somebody stops it.

Wow, an impressive event! You should definitely charge $omething, either an entry fee or for those who wish to spectate, because all of this is very costly. Hold the tourney in Anaheim during Disneyland's Star Wars Nights. April until May 4th. There are many hotel ballrooms where you can have the event or have it at the convention center. Celebration was held there in 2022. The Anahiem tourist office might help you. Plus, there is a lot to do in Southern California. Beautiful beaches, Los Angeles, Malibu, other theme parks, San Deigo, you can even go down to Mexico. So Cal is your destination. Plus, a lot of Star Wars celebrities live in Los Angeles. And fighters from Latin America, Asia, and Australia might be more motivated to attend if it's a little closer for them.

Get George Lucas, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni there to guest judge!

I like everything you said except having it in CA. Having it in that location will exclude so many people. A more centralized location like TX would be better and more accessible to everyone as a whole. Dallas, Austin, or San Antonio would be the best locations. These types of events always take place in CA or FL and it makes it extremely difficult for some people to attend. To be honest you have it switched up.. You should be giving the performance part of the event more money. The "duels" is just going to be a complete mess. Just people whacking each other, no technique, no entertainment. While it sounds good on paper, in reality it isn't going to be as cool as you think it will be. You'll be expecting some epic duels when all you're going to get is dudes just wildly swinging at eachother. Who's going to twirl and spin around when the goal is to hit your opponent? All that stuff will go out the window. I'm more interested in seeing peoples saber routines and seeing what kind of creativity they bring to it. The "duels" will just be a headache and a mess, mark my words.

This sounds fun! I hope you plan on filming/documenting it.

Few suggestions as someone whos been around a few tournaments before: 1) You're (more than likely) going to want to have separate divisions. Usually we have them set up by gender/ age/ rank. Guess rank isn't exactly applicable, but the other 2 might. 2) dress code/ gear requirements. Uniforms are usually at school discretion at open tournaments; but sparring gear isnt. If youre using sabers (swords) youd want a minimum amount of safety gear at a cup, mouth piece, kendo/ fencing/ hema rated helmets/ gloves. (As a kali person trust me, a LIGHT knuckle rack will ruin your day). 2.1) alot of folks dont wear shoes during their forms/ aren't allowed to during sparring (footgear/ shinguards, yes; but shoes are generally off limits). You'll want to consider the mats/ what flooring you'll be hosting the event on. 3) proper communication and announcement equipment. 2 years ago the kaisen tournament was an absolute mess bc the speaker system was messed up, none of the events went on time, and no one was communicating with each other. Usually in sparring tournament you have 3 judges on each ring. 2 sides and a center. Depending on the turn out/ division you may need quite a bit of help/ it may be a multi day event. 4) if you do a kids division and like obviously, they wouldn't survive the 50k prize fighting, look into those cheap ass 1st/2nd/3rd place trophies. Theyre cheap but kids love them. 5) location. Consider doing a preregistration thing before the tournament to get an idea of the number of participants/ to help you chose a venue. Think of parking. Trust me, it sets an attitude for the whole day. (Also food vendors are a huge lifesaver for long days). 6) (this is more a bonus suggestion) SWAG!!!! Most tournaments do a small oval shaped iron on patch as a commenorative for the participants of the tournament win or lose. Bonus bonus suggestion: maybe consider making a shorter blade? (For the people in the kata division). If there were shotosabers available id be there with bells on with 2 or 3 forms to choose from (side note; 60 seconds is super short for alot of forms. If i RUSH through some of my older forms i think i can do 3 of them in approx 1 min. The other 12+ i can think of all stray into the 2-3 range on a rushed form. Ill come back to edit this if i can think of any more suggestions. If you want a solid template, go look up the kaisen tournament rules. The city of destiny classic would be a good starting point. Hayden will probably be in the second season of Ahsoka, has a contract with Disney and could get into trouble, especially since Theory criticizes Disney all the time and his opinions are sometimes...controversial. Leave Hayden out of this please, he just returned to Star Wars. Theory should invite some other KZfaqrs, his friends, but not professional actors who work with the company Theory criticizes

Hey, congrats on creating this event! I wrote a comment a moment ago about the prices of your sabers, but I deleted it, because as I browsed your site it answered some of my questions and I saw that you do have more modestly/reasonably priced sabers on your site. I was going to say that some of your RGB base-lit sabers (manufactured by TXQ, it seems) are quite a bit over-priced, but then I saw that you appear to include a saber box, and other items, with each purchase, effectively adding 99$ to the price tag. Still a bit stiff, but at least you get something for the money, and not inconsistent with other American resellers of TXQ/LGT product. I do give you props for having a HUGE and surprising selection! Being that I participate in a competitive LED fighting league, and given that you are requiring participants in your contest to purchase a saber from you, I recommend that you either create more divisions, or at least be more specific about WHICH sabers will be allowed to participate in each event. I noticed that you sell base-lit and pixel blades, and also 1" OD and 7/8" OD blades, as well as different lengths. Pitting some of these against each other will create unfair advantages as pixel blades are quite a bit heavier than base-lit blades, and 7/8" blades are more flexible than 1" OD blades, and longer blades just hit more often. Also, something to consider is that competitive leagues like mine use blades with a thickness of 3mm, where as most commercially available sabers come with a blade with a wall thickness of only 1mm. This is a safety issue you may want to consider. You will probably go with the 1mm seeing as you don't seem to sell 3mm thick blades on your site. (Maybe you will in the future?) I have faith that you will develop clear rules and guidelines as you develop your event. I am quite interested and hope to participate. I hope that you do hold it in Los Angeles. I also hope that you will consider allowing competitors to bring their own sabers, even if it means charging an entry fee, as there are many great competitors out there who have their own arsenals. However I understand that this is a branding event for you, and the whole point is to move product, so I understand if you do not. Sorry for the long message, but I hope you know that it is because you have gotten my interest, and will probably attract more from folks like me.

No admission fee, no spectator fee? how are you going to spend 90k on prizes and then another 100k with the setup and NOT make any sort of revenue? you need to rethink this event.

Hey theory I’ve been following your channel since 2016 and just want to congratulate you on the success of your saber company! I have a few ideas for your tournament next year and who could judge the competitors. If you could somehow get ray park (Darth Maul) to be a judge that would be crazy. Another one but kind of a stretch would be Hayden Christensen. I know that you had recently met and gotten to know him so I don’t know if you have a personal connection with him but it would be sick if he was included. As for the overall winner of the dueling tournament…what if you casted him as a rogue Jedi in a future project of yours? Thanks for your time theory and keep doing what you do!
