Follow along as I the biggest adventure of my life so far. I have never tried to take on a hike even remotely close to this magnitude. And yet, today I am hiking RIM to RIM to RIM, SOLO.
This was truly such a special experience and I am beyond grateful that I got to accomplish this and see the solar eclipse at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. I ended up hiking 51 miles in 27 hours with just under 12,000ft of elevation gain. WOW! What a hike!
This is an adventure that I will never forget. Though it was tough I absolutely loved this journey. I also had a beautiful time creating this video. I truly love sharing my experiences with you all! I hope you all enjoy watching! If you have ever done this hike, please share you experience in the comments! Id love to hear your story!

Congratulations on your amazing hike! Four days after you did this hike I completed my first rim2rim at 66 years old :). It was my first hike of over 20 miles in my life and like you I'm very proud of myself for going through with it! I hiked down the South Kaibab and up the North Kaibab. I'm not gonna lie, the last 5 miles was tough and I too was hallucinating a little. Luckily my wife was there to drive us to our hotel in Kanab Utah an hour and a half away :).

Well done another enjoyable video. I often watch hiking videos on trails that we are considering doing ourselves to get a sense of what’s involved and I feel like your video did that for us and love the comments about what you’re experiencing, difficult areas and things to consider. Yes I plan on doing south Kaibab to north next year! I did the detour to ribbon falls on my north rim to south rim hike last year, it was so beautiful. The only reason I didn’t do it this year was pure mileage. 50 miles already seemed like a lot to do, I didn’t want to add a detour. I must have watched your video about a dozen times already as I am working on the logistics for 4 for this adventure. I'm planning late September early October. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jtCAps-E3tapcZc.html Here is the link to my video where I talk about the logistics of doing rim to rim to rim. Yes I got my duffle bag shuttled across from north rim to south and back the next day. This adventure definitely takes a lot of planning! I have also done ribbon falls on a previous trip (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a9WcoLerv7PLkqc.html). It's beautiful I highly recommend, it will only add a mile(ish) to your hike. As far as gear I packed as if I was going to camp on the south rim, I brought many of the items that I typically take backpacking. Tent, Sleeping Bag, pad, inflatable pillow, cook set + Fuel, extra food, electrolytes, power bank + cords, extra clothes + socks. I think that was pretty much it. If you're planning on backpacking it I could try to pack light. The more weight you carry the more difficult the elevation gain and loss will be.I also have videos where I pack for backpacking trips, that may be helpful to give you an ideal of my gear set up. (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q8Wgp8Rl3rqnn30.html). I hope this was helpful! Good Luck on your trip!

Great job. That being said, hiking the larger part in the dark somewhat defeats the purpose of hiking the Grand Canyon and the spectacular views it offers. I believe you have the capacity completing an R2R2R (starting from the south rim), within 20 hours, doing the larger part of the hike in daylight; hiking early June). I composed a playlist of POV videos covering all the major trails in the grand canyon: kzfaq.info/sun/PL9C-kwDdihd75ejgoe-3PrnuO7fIOp0Mv Cheers.

I’ve been surprised with all the people who have had something to say about me doing part of the hike in the dark. lol i think that it the only way to cover this much mileage is one go is to hike in the dark. I am planning on doing R2R south Kaibab to north rim this fall - mid October. So I can experience that part of the trail I missed. Wish you did not put music in the background. Rather hear the real sounds

I completely understand. I feel like the music really helps build and support the story of my experience. Thanks for your input.

Please do not encourage people to do this. It’s so silly. Just take your time and enjoy the hike. It’s not a competition. People die doing this.

This video was not to encourage people to do this hike. I believe that this hike should only be attempted by high level hikers/athletes. My objective with this video was to share my experience. Thanks for watching!

People die during the heat. Ultramarathon people do way more than this constantly. The key is to have the knowledge on how to manage the weather conditions you are in. Just because you are too afraid to push yourself doesn’t mean others shouldn’t.

A lot of people run 100km or longer events these days (all my running friends do), and those of that do look for other routes to run with scenery like this, and we enjoy it and take our time, we just happen to do it faster and see more in a shorter period of time, and get to see things a lot of people never get to see. Its fun for us, we train for it, and are prepared for emergencies. I don’t judge people that walk or hike, I do as well, so don’t judge us for enjoying running;) Thanks for posting your adventure!
