This is my second time reacting to you reacting to Elvis Presley. This time I just had to subscribe you finally got it … you finally got it … that Elvis magic. When I was five years old, I remember the day I set eyes on him on my black and white television and in that moment he became my hero . And now 65 years later, he remains just that my hero , he was that little girls first love and now he’s this little old Ladies last love. It was magic 65 years ago and it remains magic to this day. I was so lucky to be born in an era where I was able to see him live in concert and young lady. That was the greatest moments of a lifetime God bless you and keep you safe. If I can suggest watching him sing, if I can dream from the 1968 comeback special in the white outfit, American trilogy from Aloha from Hawaii, and two songs just before he died in his last concert he did how great thou Art 1977, my way, 1977 and hurt 1977 from the same concert. It was the last time on stage. Also, same concert unchained Melody 1977. We lost him about six weeks later I can remember how I felt that day, perhaps if not one of the saddest days of my life, take care of my friend.

He was called the king for a reason although on the other hand he said he didn't like being called that because there was only one king and that was above.

Oh, Ruth, I see it didn't take long for Elvis to capture your heart. As a fan since 1956, I totally understand. I apologize for the length of my comment, but I thought you might be interested in a little background on Elvis: he was raised in the south during a time of segregation but, because his family was poor, he lived in white, black, and mixed neighborhoods and was exposed to all different types of music. It's interesting that you noticed the soul in his voice. He remembered singing gospel songs from the age of two, and it was always his favorite genre of music. Wait til you hear his gospel songs! Part of his magic was combining several genres within one song. Besides being a one of a kind singer and entertainer, he was a catalyst for change in many areas of our culture. He brought black music and musicians to the forefront. White racists did everything they could to shut down his growing popularity among young people, but he persevered. He's the only person that's been inducted into these major Music Halls of Fame: Rock 'N Roll, Rhythm & Blues, Rockabilly, Country, Gospel, and Pop. Always expect the unexpected when listening to an Elvis song that's new to you. You'll notice a gap in live performances. He served in the Army 1958-60. He starred in 31 movies from 1956-69. So for several years he wasn't performing live concerts, but there are a lot of movie song clips to explore. Some advice: the live performances are incredible, but don't shy away from studio recordings. There are probably hundreds of songs that he either never performed live or that weren't filmed, and just hearing his voice with the emotion he brings is phenomenal. The last and most unbelievable detail: Elvis never had any formal musical training. And yet, in addition to his unique voice and style, he played instruments, arranged and produced songs, and hand picked his musicians and back-up singers and directed them with his body movements. He was very spontaneous on stage. There was no choreography, no autotune, and no lipsynching. He just followed his impulses and went where the music took him.

If you love his energy then "Suspicious Minds" from 1970/ Vegas is a must! One of his best performances! Lots of energy and lots of fun! Great reaction, thank you! Also great..... "Bridge Over Troubled Water" 1970/ Vegas "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" 1970/Vegas "Just Pretend" also 1970/ Vegas. And much more, especially from his vegas shows. Also great almost every song from his Aloha from Hawaii via satellite concert 1973. Watched by over one billion people worldwide at the same time.

Ruth...a 'fun fact'...many women bought tickets(same seats)for every performance...for the whole time he was in Las Vegas...it is said he NEVER had a empty seat for the whole time he performed at the International Hotel! what's interesting is that they bought them when they 1st went on sale.

I've subscribed and can't wait to join you on your Elvis journey. I know you've received tons of requests already, but I just have to add some. These would be a good introduction to Elvis: (1) Elvis Presley's Dance Moves (2:52) and (2) Elvis Presley - Music Evolution (1954-1977) (7:32). (2) is a series of video clips that will give you a sense of Elvis' versatility. And (3) Elvis Presley - Can't Help Falling in Love (From "Blue Hawaii") (2:50).

I just watched this again & want to thank you for your comments -- you really understand what he was about; i've been watching & listening to him since 1954 when i was 11 & will never stop -- there is so much to see; he did a concert in 1972 at Hampton Roads which was amazing & maybe you can take a look at these suggestions -- same song (Can't Stop Loving You) now 2 yrs. later still very powerful at kzfaq.info/get/bejne/buBymtZn0dK2ipc.html (you hear him say "Release Me" but the band played "Can't Stop Loving You" so you see his annoyed look & why he threw water over towards Glen Hardin, the piano player); "5 songs from April 9th" at kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b6d7hpmgnaibn4U.html & pay close attention starting at 3:10 to the stage floor & his great sense of humor; "I Got A Woman & Amen" at kzfaq.info/get/bejne/peCCf8So37XWYqc.html ; Lawdy Miss Clawdy at kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ntScZNOoy5eZiYE.html ; he has 2 worlds worth of music so we can go on forever listening & watching; thx very much.
