I'm also a fan of fertilizing with every watering. I do a quarter tsp per gallon. Makes it way easier and you don't have to keep track of when you fertilize anymore.

So...in nature, there's wind. And wind does several good things for plants. I heard somewhere that wind makes the stems grow stronger as well, so it would make sense that using a fan inside would simulate that.

I have a few tanks large and small and the cheapest way to lower your pH is to use Driftwood and leaf litter it drops your water's pH quite significantly into a proper pH level just by using tannin's ...food for thought! So when I do water changes in my aquariums to give that water to my plants soil waste no water for any of my hobbies... I recommend to all the plants parents out there you should have a medium size Aquarium to do the same your plants will thank you!

I live in a soft water area and don’t have too many watering issues such as crispy leaves etc but for sure I will be checking the ph! Plants deserve the best care we can give them in captivity

After watching your video I tried to change my ph right away 😅bought the test fortunately my filter water is actually 5-5.5 ph, so after I water my plant with filter watered together with dyna pro, I saw growth next day for my silver blush (my anthuriums were not growing). I use an oscillating fan too, its on a timer, it used to worry me but I figured in their natural habitat, you get intermittent wind too, so I risked it. Seems fine so far.

Thanks for this video. Very helpful. We are moving to a new home in a few weeks and the whole house is linked up to a water-softer unit. I don't think I can water my plants or even spray my plants in that water. Would you recommend distilled water?

Personally I noticed the plants on my desk (exposed to a constant wind via desk fan) grew up to be stronger and slightly more sizable than the plants I bought at the same time, same farm, same genus. The only difference is the other plants I didn't have enough space for on my desk, so they got placed on my dresser where there isn't any wind. Similar lighting conditions too. It feels like the ones that get constant air end up having thicker stems and slightly faster growth. Just my experience though. Gonna start testing my water now, too, thanks to your suggestion. See if I can duplicate your growth spike, fingers crossed.

Fab video!...it never occurred to me to test the PH of my water supply but seeing the dramatic results with your beautiful plants it makes so much sense...thank you! I'm fascinated by the subject of lighting for houseplants. One thing I've always wondered about is the intensity value of reflected sunlight/artificial light from mirrors behind and to the side of plants. I'm no scientist, but I'm guessing it would only be partially diminished by the thickness of the mirror glass?, so generally mirrors would be beneficial. I think an oscillating fan is excellent for houseplants as the extra airflow will mimic native environment transpiration (evaporation from leaf stoma) rate and therefore improve nutrients/minerals flow/uptake from roots to leaves :)

These are all true things! I used to have really bad spidermites and always in a constant battle with them indoors (predatory mites, neem, systemic, chemicals... you name it). Spidermites went away as soon as I fixed the pH, adjusted watering schedule, and started using an oscillating fan.

On you recomendation i bought the ph test kit and tested my water straight from the tap then with the water conditioner I use, then with the fertilizer also . The tap and conditioned water was the same between 7-8, but then when i added the fertilizer it went to 6. So is it ok, or do you think I should lower it before i add the fertilizer ? I hope this made sense.

This is making me think that my pH must be okay, because the newest leaf on my alocasia imperial red is massive!

I put a plant work table in my basement this past winter with some cheap Amazon gro lights. My husband put a water filter on the sink downstairs, I used pro-tek fertilizer by dyno gro and used that for all plants I repotted in the winter then added foliage pro in spring. I tested ph of water it was 7 so I brought it down in between 5-6. When it warmed up plants go on back or front porch. I left two plants downstairs a neon and a golden pothos. I started watering plants outside without the filtered water or changing ph. Except plants downstairs. They are sitting on the floor getting 8 hours of light a day filtered water and 5-6 ph and the leaves are about 5 inches wide the biggest pothos leaves ive ever had. So now I water all plants like this. I also noticed the vine of the plants doubled in thickness.

I use brita and collect rain water the brita filter ph come fro 5 to 6.5 which excelent for my plants 💚💚💚💚

3:30pm what type of Anthurium does did you show? I want an Anthurium which will grow Big. I’m m new to your channel and learned a lot today. Does air conditioning count as air flow? Fans not a fan. But will think about it. With a moisture meter with ph, is that ok to check water for alkaline or acidity? I did subscribe to your channel. Your plants are spectacular!

How do your string of pearls do great with no stretching there?? Even right in my southern window they stretch. I have to put them outside in full sun during the winter (above 33F) during fall and winter and in partial shade during the winter.

I use a fan through all the warm months, I usually stop in like October BC it really does cool the air and I don't want to be cooling air I'm paying to heat 😮 I've always laughed at the "avoid drafts" because all of these plants, unless completely lab grown, are genetically used to surviving both temperature changes and changes in wind and it's speed. The plant community has some ppl shaking their fiddles everyday to replicate wind and then fearing doors opening and causing a breeze for other plants. IMO if you coddle them then your going to have very picky and weak stock 😂

How soon did you notice healthier plants? I’m feeling discouraged. my monstera has been loosing lead after leaf this summer and now I believe it’s the ph of our water, I stopped using RO and started using the city water which had a ph of 8.4 when I tested it. We hooked our house up to it a few months ago from well and well I didn’t think much of it. I’m thinking just use ph down for the next water or two for each plant then start back with fertilizer. Airodes don’t seem impressed… bananas last leaf is almost half the size. African violets don’t seam impressed.

Weird someone would recommend No airflow. Even veggie seedlings it's recommended to have air movement, even just for strengthening the stems. Seems like that alone would be good for houseplants especially those that hold up some monster sized leaves.

Question? Do you find Canada humidity to be low ? I ask because we reside in Alberta and some plants we have seem to develop dry, crispy leaf tips. We do have two humidifiers.
