As much as I love a full beautiful plant, nothing compares to propagating a tiny node and growing a new baby plant 🥹

Just a tip…. If it is rooted don’t pull out the roots, just do a dead head, even cut the leaves. The rooted part will immediately activate the nodes and growth will happen more successfully. I’ve done dead heads with 100% rate of growth. It’s safer and more effective

So a stick with roots but no leaves has a better chance than a stick with no roots but a leave? Just wanted to check if I understood that right since I'm not that familiar with the different methods 😅

damaged leaves are better than no leaves for propagation ! leave them for the energy they provide and remove them once the plant has made more healthy ones (if they bother you)

My theory is if leave the leaves on rather than going straight to wet stick then the cutting can pull nutrients and energy out of the leaf to convert to new growth, and eventually that leaf will die off anyway so even if it's ugly I leave it on.

The length of stem on either side of nodes doesn’t really matter, but it is good to have as insurance in case there is rot. The energy is in the actual node and not so much in the stem ☺️ Obliqua will run to find better growing conditions, so they are pretty sensitive to underwatering and lack of nutrients etc

for the obliqua cutting in water - is it possible it didn't do anything bc it's already used up all it's growth points? it looked like the node had already pushed 2 different spots but not sure

A friend gave me a good size rooted adansonii cutting, it died. I bought a small one, it died. I bought a nice size one that appeared to be in perfect health, and watched it slowly decline. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I was able to save some cuttings from the last one, and they are doing good just in water, so perhaps it’s a watering/soil issue. I also potted a cutting from the first plant in a tiny pot, and it got lost among the bigger plants on one of my tables, so it dried out completely a few times and strangely enough, it’s still alive. Not really doing much, but alive. So maybe I need to ignore the plant more, or let it dry out completely before watering again.

Hi Fern I just love your content and been a fan for a couple years now. Thank you for all you do 💚💚💜💜. I have one suggestion/question for your props is have you tried Fluval Stratum to propagate? I use it now and it really works very well especially with challenging cuttings that just don't seem to do anything, it works wonders and I am not going back to anything else as I am amazed how well and fast it works. Thank you Fern for all you do and I am so happy for you and Shane on buying your first home congratulations!! 💜💜💜💜💜💜

I'm confused. The roots were dried up, so why not just put them in water, rehydrate them, and then repot the plant? I realize that once a plant has dehydrated to the point of no return, you're in a 'dry rot' situation, but those roots didn't look totally decimated to me.
@melanieg.9092
@melanieg.9092 10 ай бұрын
It also helps to put it in water for a day to spot the rot prone roots and then repot. Don't know if that could give it shock either way?
