I was in the USAF from 2001-2021. I deployed 9 times in 20 years, and my last deployment was to Tunisia in Norther Africa in 2017. I was originally tasked to deploy to Air Base 101 in Niger, but my orders got changed to Tunisia about a month before I was supposed to deploy. The sent me to a 2 week long version of SERE (Survival Evasion, Resistance, and Escape) training before I deployed. At the training course, I met alot of fellow service members tasked with deployment to various African nations. At the time of that training in 2017, I believe we had a US military presence in 12 African nations. I think construction of the Air Base in Niger began in 2015, or early 2016. To make a long story short, we've had troops in Niger for at least 8 years now. In October of 2017, US Army troops were ambushed in Tongo Tongo, Niger by forces with the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara. There was four Army special operations soldiers killed, and 2 wounded in the attack. Obviously, the military industrial complex doesn't give two sh!ts about The War Powers Act. They want forever wars.
